I wasn’t a big Mirage fan but this figure is probably my favourite Carbot. They nailed the toon TT look but also has a little more heft. It’s for me pretty uninterested in the FT version unless they really make it magic.

I have no reason to, but I’m tempted to get another one just incase. It’s too bad the QC issues hold it back from complete domination.

I put in a deposit last night. I'm still debating on going through with it. I don't like replacing figures and Mirage isn't a character who's important enough to me to upgrade (unlike say Optimus, Megatron, or Starscream), but at $50 it's hard to resist.

So I never really followed this figure because I already had Sphinx but I keep hearing about qc issues. What is typically wrong with this guy?

 

Common was Early versions had mis-assembled hips & later had wrong color panels on the insides of the ankles. I was lucky enough to get 2 left hands, so some typical hit-or-miss is possible as well

 

Were the hips fixable or did they need replacing? How visible are the wrong colored panels in a standing or dynamic pose?

 

Hips are not bad to fix, a little annoying because you can’t completely separate the pieces without loosening the knee joint but just watch a video and it’ll take about 5-10 min.

With the green ankles it seems like you’re out of luck, they’re like dark turquoise and stand out enough to bother me in an A stance.

 

Hm. Well I guess I'm pretty good at paint matching so I can fix the ankles if need be. For $50 I think I can live with needing a few minor repairs. Now I just need to decide whether it's worth upgrading at all. He looks better than Sphinx but Sphinx is still pretty much good enough. I can't really sell him cuz I did a bit of customization on him - chromed his rocket and knees with molotow and the chrome has a bit of a blemish. So I'd just be giving Sphinx to my nephew which would definitely make him happy. Well, I've got time before ShowZ gets him so I'll keep mulling it over.

 

Why green ankles? Why? I wanted to buy this nice figure but now I'm out.

 

Did people ever get replacements for the ankles or no? Because that sort of discoloration in such a prominent place sucks, even at $50

 

I’ve kept my Sphinx for vehicle mode with all the other “replaced bots”  

There are a few KOs in there too for filler but it has given me an excuse to upgrade without feeling like I wasted money!

 

Anyone know when the preorder from show z is supposed to come in for this guy?

 

Something to keep in mind for all the folk fretting. the Show.z is a preorder, not a sale of existing stock listed w/ a no warranty disclaimer. This may just be another affordable TE reissue to clear out stock/materials before they jump to the next brand name & we'll all get lucky & find a whole new QC issue.

Figures, I see this at a great price and it's sold out already. Guess I'll hold out for FT.

 

ShowZ says later this year. So you'll have about a 3 month wait, unless it gets pushed to early 2022.

 

I don’t remember seeing people getting any replacement parts, some people may have replaced figures but I don’t think it was easy to get parts for the turquoise problem.

 

Seems possible, seeing as OP has dropped to $70. They could just blow everything out then entirely convert to Deformation Space. But hey, if we get a preorder for their "Wasp Tiger" for $20-$30 less, I'm going for it.

 

Screw it: paid off the pre-order. Doing the upgrade thing on a character that isn't super important to me. I now do almost everything that I used to scratch my head over when other collectors would do it. I've even sold a few figures for more than I paid for them - something I swore I'd never do. And I got rid of a figure and then bought that same figure again which really used to puzzle me when people would do it.

 

I was going to skip this guy and be happy with Sphinx, but for $50, screw it. Done. I'm a sucker for integrated weapons.

If I get green ankles I'll just hit them with spray paint, close enough blue is close enough on that small part. I wouldn't even bother taking it apart, just tape off and mask everything around it and only hit the part that shows.
