Will the rising cost of plastic materials affect these third party areas?
The Megatron looks very nice, but it's hard to pay more than $200 for it.

 

Depends. Some haven’t increased in price, some have increased slightly, and other have taken advantage and used it as an excuse to skyrocket their prices.

 

The rising cost of plastic is more a relative thing.

I did a cursory search a few years back, and the going rate for ABS plastic pellets was like, $50 for a literal Tonne of the stuff. 1000 Kilograms. Even if the price doubled or tripled, I'd still call that quite "affordable".

That's pricing that affects lower-end goods more. If you're talking about a $20 off-the-shelf toy, then raising plastic costs are indeed a factor, when materials costs start becoming a larger piece of that pie.

On higher-end goods, though, that are governed more by production overhead (poor economics of scale), materials costs are still relatively meaningless.

I am a big critic of AAT but why not judge the product on its own? A company can release one awesome figure and one crappy one.

 

Because the company in question released 2 crappy figures, went silent for 3 years and comes back with a bunch of renders and a meh quality sword.

Idk, can’t be disappointed if you expect the worst. Either it’ll end up as I expected, or it’ll be a surprising figure.

 

true , but track record is track record. unless the review out is great, it's still a big risk.

 

I’m wondering if the rails & the cage thing over the tank are additional parts that need to be removed from the truck or if they somehow transform along with the rest of him.

 

Given they have no hinges or articulation points I’m pretty sure the cage (and maybe the large silver box) just slide on top of the tanker to complete the look.

so a minor bit of partsforming if you want a 100% screen accurate alt mode? I have the same question about all the hand railings on the side of the tanker.

hopefully the prices isn’t as high are people are saying.

 

Agree to both...I don't own any AAT product. When I first saw El Cid and like some others, he looks great...but just doesn't hold together? Then AAT releases a mediocre if not bad figure - Firage? (again which I don't own), then a fairly cool sword, then a strange OP Optional Girl, and instead of focusing on the next in line...potentially stellar figure...releases a bunch of great looking proto pics for years out releases...and just keeps teasing. Focus!

 

Can’t speak to the other releases but I will say Firage is a worthwhile offering; the type of plastic feels slightly more brittle than the DOTM hasbro deluxes but he’s help up well for me over the years and never given me reason to worry.

 

I get all that. Like I said I'm a big critic of AAT as well, but it's getting tiresome to read every post saying "this will probably be shit" or some variation of that I just wanna talk about the figure at this point.

 

So there is no waist swivel on this guy, right? From all the pictures it doesn't look like it exists.

 

I think you need to look closer, because a lot of the pictures on the front page show a waist swivel. He's got his torso shifted in most of those "menacing stride" poses there. Look especially for how the centre line of his torso doesn't line up with that on the pelvis.

 

3rd (and I think 11th) pic down from og post suggest a waist swivel, but not sure how much articulation there is or isn't.

 

I don't know how you would engineer this but it would be cool if the waist swivel is the same joint as the trailer hitch in alt mode.

All Ive wanted from DOTM since its release is more of this iteration of Megatrons appearance in leader class size. I am so excited for this, but I worry about the transformation. Wonder if its going to be like the leader class bone crusher figure? SO READY FOR THIS!!!!

 

So we have this Megatron, MPM Starscream KO repaint with tats, MPM Barricade, NA Soundwave, and the AA Dreads, all in MPM scale. Just need Shockwave and Sentinel and that would be all the main deceptions from DOTM. Pretty cool! I know there are currently OS SS options for Sentinel and Shockwave, but I would love to see original molds. Really looking forward to this!

 

The truck mode seems to be smaller in height than Optimus Prime MPM… am I wrong??
