Can I ask what gives you that impression? I thought Dinobot's struggle in that episode was about fate vs free will.

"Can I ask you to justify your unpopular opinion in a thread reserved for unpopular opinions while not bothering to ask anyone else to justify THEIR unpopular opinions?"

The underlying struggle isn't why he died, which is the part you quoted. He died because he refused to use any tactic other than "stab with sword argleblargle angry!" to win a fight he was outclassed in, and is par for the course with his extremely aggressive character portrayal. Bear in mind he spent the first episode trying to beat BOTH leaders because of his overinflated sense of marshal self worth.

Misreading? Let's break it down to the Cliff Notes version:

"Argleblargle existential crisis via Cybertronian Shakespeare"

"We can change history mwahahaha!!!" which is actually hands down the most legitimate threat ever presented in TF media. I applaud it.

"That rapscallion is going to wipe out the peeples!!!" "Well we can't make it in time."

    "Oh well, HEADBUTT TIME!!!!!!!!!"

RIGHT HERE is the issue I have. A MYRIAD of ways Dinobot could have handled distracting and defeating the Preds in such a way that it didn't cost the Maximals one of their powerhouses at a time when attrition and resources weren't a battle they could rightly win. No, it was all down to ego.

"ARRRGGGGGGGGGHHHH YE BEAT MEH!!!!!" "Shut off the one thing that can save me, even though I can shoot the fucking disk and THEN go into stasis lock."

    "MWAHAHAHAHA I WINS!!!!"

    "Not today, bitch!" ZZZZZAP!

    "Argleblargle Cybertronian Shakespeare"... and ded.

Nope, not misreading it at all.

    1 question.....
It’s been some time since I watch the episode but wasn’t there another major issue other then the disk?

froM what I recall wasn’t it stated that the village of proto-humans was the birthplace for modern humanity.....

If I’m right wouldn’t that have meant if he had chosen to “ Not Shut off the one thing that could have saved himself ,shot the fucking disk and THEN went into stasis lock”.....the village of proto-humans would still have been at risk

Megatron would have still destroyed that village ,altered history by preventing humanities Evolution......

    @Primeultra
    You are correct, sir.

Not to mention that going into stasis lock would’ve left him at the mercy of Megatron, who has no qualms about shooting sleeping enemies in the face.

Also considering the Predacons had already begun their attack on the valley, Dinobot didn’t have any time to MacGuyver a solution.

Anyway, @G1Prowl you explained your stance. I don’t agree with it, but this is the unpopular opinions thread, so there ya go.

You misunderstood me. I wasn’t asking you to justify your unpopular opinion, I was just curious as to how you formulated it, as this is the first time I’ve heard someone interpret the episode in that particular way. Now that you’ve given your explanation, my curiosity is settled.

I think there was a similar discussion a few pages ago, but here's my take: I prefer Hot Rod to become Rodimus Prime in name only. I'm not talking about his personality but his design. If he's going to be a young leader who's constantly doubting himself, he should keep his regular size and silhouette to just show how large Optimus' shoes are to fill. It's also the fact, as others have mentioned, that even if the Matrix chooses him to lead the Autobots, he shouldn't just become taller and look more mature on the spot. If he must change to this, that's something he should earn by acquiring experience and confidence through years of leading.

I don't know about the community in general, but I think that'll be pretty unpopular among shippers: I can't get into Knock Out x Breakdown. I never saw any hint of homosexuality in Knock Out's mannerisms (you can be a narcissist and not have the big gay) and they always appeared to me as colleagues on good terms or friends at most.

The thing I like about the growth is that you can play with it a bit. I feel like there is potential in the idea of a young adult who is actually struggling inside an adult's body. Like he feels that he jumped a few years and it really adds more feelings of inadequacy to the guy.

Yeah, I have to agree with this.

I mean, I ship them super hard personally. Their dynamic is really neat. I can understand why someone else can feel that way though, and I respect your opinion.

Yeah. I never saw them as anything other than friends or co-workers. The lack of any real emotional reaction from KnockOut to Breakdown’s death said it all.

And while he enjoyed torturing Silas as revenge for using Breakdown’s body like a costume, he still didn’t seem all that bothered.

If there was anything there, it was just superficial & didn’t have any real attachment. Just a relationship of convenience since there weren’t any options.

Also, they are literally married in IDW1.

Show wise, there's no evidence of them being anything more than partners in crime.

Didn’t know that. Kinda feels like going for low-hanging fruit though, y’know?

I kind of forgot they became the equivalent of married. But that may be due to the fact that Breakdown didn't have nearly as much page time as Knockout did in the Windblade mini and TAAO, which is honestly the biggest disappointment about it.

...Canonizing the relationship of two queer-coded characters is "low-hanging fruit"?

Other than dropping a joke about how he needed Breakdown to buff his back, there’s not really anything there to suggest they’re either gay or a couple.
And even then, he showed annoyance about his paint job more than anything.

He wasn’t ever sad about Breakdown dying. Didn’t ever reflect on his old partner in a somber moment or anything like that.

He took pleasure in torturing Silas as payback for using Breakdown’s body, but still showed little regard for the fact that it was specifically Breakdown Silas was using and not someone else. Likely, KnockOut was disgusted that an organic alien was using a Decepticon corpse like a puppet. His casual attitude while torturing Silas suggests a lack of attachment to his old partner, not a deep-seeded loss. I remember wanting to see KnockOut’s reaction to Breakdown’s death & was underwhelmed when he wasn’t actually all that bothered.

So yeah, I think IDW took the easy route by making them a couple. Still, it’s a different universe in the comics and they can do what they like there. I just don’t think cartoon KO & BD were ever an item.

I still don't see how that's the easy route.

Because it's cheap virtue-signaling for internet Tumblr/Facebook/Twitter good-boy points. It'd be the same thing if IDW suddenly made Starscream and Megatron a couple. In the actual show, Knockout might have swung either way, but the only attraction Breakdown ever expressed was towards Airachnid (you know, before she baited him into an ambush and chopped him up.

Eh the worst thing about Knockout and Breakdown in TAAO was that nothing was done with them before the book got cancelled like Onslaught and Vortex's "relationship" was. So there just sort of ended up being there.

Lmao ok. You and I both know full well that it had nothing to do with virtue-signaling, but whatever.
