Fresh from the hive of stupdity that is Tiktok, comes the new “Devious Lick” trend, which involves teens recording themselves committing a “lick”(theft), usually of School or College property.

It has gotten so bad, some schools are shutting down their bathrooms, as it is evolving from straight up theft to destruction of property.

Yeah f**k that. Those “kids” should be tossed in a federal prison for 15-20 years for malicious damage to school property, AND ON TOP OF THAT, the idiots running TikTok should ALSO be held liable and forced to pay for all said damages out of their own pockets

15-20 for that? m8 what they're doing is fucking stupid but it's just a bit mental to say their lives should be ruined for it. You'd get less for manslaughter and even murder in some cases! I know, I know, it's an American tradition to dole out disproportionately long sentences that don't fit the crime, but expelling them and making them and their parents pay for the damage is a more fitting punishment, not "lock 'em up and throw away the key!".

Tiktok seems to inspire a lot of stupid people to do mind-numbingly stupid shit.

However this type of behavior is just a symptom of much larger issues. I'm sure we can all agree that the internet has been a net benefit for us as a species, young kids who don't know shit and teenagers who think they know everything having unrestricted access to the internet at such a young age and no concept of how to use it responsibly leads to them treating it like a toy they're entitled to abusing.

Then again I'm noticing it's taking longer and longer for each subsequent generation to fully mature mentally, so it's not even exclusive to just teenagers and kids anymore, there's plenty of young adults who behave like adolescent brats well into their thirties for shits sake.

Parents not parenting, leaving their children with full access to the internet and not teaching them how to use it responsibly, relying on big daddy government to monitor the little shits in their stead and cracking down on everyone else because some dumb-ass twelve year old put himself into bad spot because he didn't know any better.

 

Pfft, amateurs. Kids here have been pulling stunts like this long before Tiktok existed.

That said, the one "lick/theft" I am concerned with was the one with the phone stealing. That's stuff that'll get you arrested.

 

Once, when I was blackout drunk I destroyed a bathroom in a bar. (Not "destroyed" as in shit all over the place...I mean I destroyed it...I smashed the toilet with an empty beer keg. It's a long story...)

Anyway....I did it cause I was a dumbass drunken moron, not because of social media.

The police got involved and I also had to pay for the repairs. I learned a lesson though.

Kids are dumb. Social media is even dumber. I'm old and I'm cranky.......get off my lawn.

 

Aren't things like this literally the sorts of pranks and wacky hi-jinks that were supposedly part of those halcyon bygone years before social media started holding up a mirror to us as a species?

People thought Idiocracy was a movie. YouTube is bad enough but TikTok is just ugh. Stuff like this, the milk crate challenge, all the female challenges shows we've created a generation who cares only about attention and validation.

Said literally every generation about the younger generations since the dawn of humanity. The Gen Xers would do well to remember that you too were The Useless Generation to the Boomers as well. Same goes to the Millenials who seem to have already forgotten we've only just got the target off our backs, you're all "useless entitled idiots" as well, remember!

TikTok is just another in the long line of things that are Corrupting The Youth™. Jazz, Rock and/or Roll, Horror Movies, Comic Books, Television, Video Games, Gangsta Rap, Grunge, Metal... It goes on and on, all of it ridiculous in hindsight. The real idiots are the ones that don't see the pattern and act like they never did anything stupid when they were young.

And if they really didn't do at least some kind of stupid shit in their youth then I guess they were as boring then as they are now.

 

remember when kids did wholesome, familial stuff for social clout like peeping on girls in the locker room? or knocking over mailboxes? now it's all crime!

 

Providing the entire world with video proof and a confession, for nothing more than clicks no less, is pretty fucking stupid though.
