First thought - MiniMates are still around?!?!?!?

second thought - those are actually pretty well sculpted and deco’d (for what they are?)

So I have a bunch of these from Marvel days and didn't do much with them but the TF ones are tempting.

Also to anyone who enjoys tabletop games - buy this Get Bit! - it's freaking hilarious to use Minimates for this and they work perfectly.

Hot take but... OMFG YESSSSSSS, Ik Hasbro is milking g1, but all these collectible makers and brands like that aren't gonna reach out to Hasbro and say, we want to make transformers merch, they're gonna say, 'hey we want to make figs of blah blah and blah in 3" size of these characters in this style', collectible companies are part of the problem, it isn't just Hasbro.

At this point, Armada Hot Shot is an obscure forgotten character in the media.

As long as one of them is Shockwave, I don't care.

    Good for you!

I'm bored. I guess after being into this stuff for over 35 years I'd gotten accustomed to things being shaken up every decade or so - BW, UT, Animated, Prime, etc etc etc. but it looks like we're just going to get G1 or Basically G1 from here on out, which is kind of dogshit for a franchise where the entire premise is "nothing is as it seems"

Nope, seems like we'll be getting the same eight guys (plus their G1 redecos, of course) forever.

I'm one of those "As long as one of them is Shockwave, I don't care" people, but I do see your point about things being shaken up. One of the things I enjoy about being a character collector is different takes on the character. Like Animated's Shockwave, or the movie version. I wouldn't mind something different coming along soon, and I say that as someone who grew up with G1 (Marvel, not the toon).

However, I don't think it's as bad as the same 8 guys forever. I'm sitting at my desk looking at Greasepit with Ratbat, God Neptune, '86 Gnaw, Fangry, and a pile of fossilizers, all released within the last year or so. In the prior trilogy, we had new figures of Overlord and Black Shadow, something I thought would never happen. And we have Star Saber on the horizon. Sure they're technically G1, but they also aren't the same 8 guys. Some of these figures released in t helast several lines haven't had figures since the original run.

That's reasonable for the main product line, but all the ancillary stuff is just a non-stop torrent of Prime/Megs/Starscream/Bee/Soundwave/Shockwave/Grimlock/Another Autobot (Preferably One With Lots of Repaints!) and uggghhhhhhhhhh.

Meanwhile, there's still a Sideways-shaped hole in Studio Series but it's cool, here's another Ratchet, lol.

I mean, on one hand I agree with you, and am really getting sick and tired of it (the fact they redid so much of Siege in Earthrise/Kingdom, and even though they were better molds, really drove that feeling home.)

on the other hand: Artfire, Road Ranger, Cordon, Spin-Out, Duststorm, Road Rage, Puffer, Fangry, Deep Cover, Tigertrack, and freakin' Black Zarak and Star Saber!!!

I think it's exacerbated for those of us in the fandom who are aware of everything going on from actual third party product like this, to all the various KO Masterpieces (referred to as "third party" on the boards, even though they are in no-way "third party" releases) to the statues, to the licensed vinyl figures to Funko Pops – and all of that, I have to believe, is primarily counting on nostalgia to sell, really does seem to be TRANSFORMERS: The Same Eight Guys Forever™. I've gotta imagine that thinking is a bit of a snake eating it's tail though, you're eventually gonna run out of the nostalgia dollars...

The "same eight guys" happen to be beloved by TransFormers fans. Armada Smokescreen somehow doesn't share the same level of adoration. Wonder why that is? Maybe the quality of fiction and toys actually does matter when it comes to legacy.

This is what TransFormers is. TransFormers has an identity and this is a very good thing to finally be recognized. It has keyed the success of the brand and kept it relevant despite the poor performance of the movies.

As has been dutifully pointed out, there is still plenty of room for new things both toy and character. It is just increasingly more likely those things will be held to a higher standard by comparison. This is also a good thing, because there is no benefit to fresh new concepts if they suck.

I mean, they want to make the characters that will sell the best.

So they make the characters/designs that are most popular.

Which is the main G1 cast.
