Minerva's actually getting her own mold? That's a first

 

Well, she's being retooled from someone other than Nightbeat. Minerva will be a Walgreens exclusive retooled from the upcoming Legacy mainline Elita-1 figure. At least based onnthe current word of reputable leakers.

 

I think we can safely say that even if technically she's the redeco, this is a Minerva mold. Even if Elita-1 is the mainline use of it, and (as indicated by Minerva's appearance in that upcoming comic which has been hinted by the artist to be based on the upcoming toy) it has some Elita sculpt details, it seems like the main intention for the mold is Minerva.

 

Oh I agree completely. I think the only reason the Elita version is mainline and Minerva is exclusive is probably because of some "genius" in the marketing department.

 

Probably because of Elita's more recent prominence in media like the War for Cybertron trilogy and her being Optimus Prime's girlfriend

 

Yeah, she's definitely the more recognizable name. I just don't think prominence within the franchise needs to give a figure more weight considering there was once a time when none of these characters were prominent back in the early 80s. If a toy is cool kids/collectors will buy it.

 

I would like to see the command chair VS is sitting in as a goal. Everyone needs a break from posing now and then!

We could throw the doors wide open and look at characters form other series that could be done, such as a repaint of Jazz into Stepper or even a slight retool and paint of Sixhot to Greatshot. Something along those lines would be possible and could go with the theme of JPG1 instead of just Victory itself.

 

Like the TR Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime, and Megatron that were obviously intended to be Astrotrain, Blitzwing, and Octane.

If they didn't rename Black Roritchi (?), I don't see why they'd rename Galaxy Shuttle.

 

Why can't the Walgreen Minerva be the deluxe figure tier? Is there a rule on exclusives being only available through one place.When is Minerva release date ? If it is next year, the mold would have already been made so it can be included with VS. This would be a retool/repaint figure not a new mode as a tier for VS.

What if the mold was retooled or slight repainted, would that make it a different item ? So it is not the same exact item as the exclusive.

 

They could do that. I still don't think it's particularly likely, but that would probably be within the realm of possibility in a way a straight rerelease of the Walgreens deco wouldn't.

 

Yes and no, in the example of Netflix Bumble Bee we have a retooled and repaint version of Cliffjumper. Now Hubcap was released around the same time as Bumble Bee but he was a remold of the character but due to the exclusive contact we are talking about we did not get a different molding of the exact same character. WFC Bumblebee was locked and could only be purchased at Walmart (or third party auction site) here in the US. So you can remold the figure but it would have to be branded as a completely different figure.

So they can retool the figure but they can not release it as a different version of the same Character. Not can they take different existing figure and retool it for the same character set to be an exclusive. This would be seen as an attempt to sabotage the exclusivity for that retailer, and hurt that retailers overall sales numbers.

Someone mentioned a while back that a good idea for a tier goal would be the Illumina II with either Jan or his classmates molded into the cockpit, or potentially as separate figures.

If they want to go the route of repainting an existing figure/ mold, they could simply redeco Kingdom Huffer, or whoever, to give the mech a 'proper' robot mode, (Even though It'd be kinda lazy of them to do that in this case, imo).

 

Here's a crazy idea!  
What if the 2nd tier if reached, Haslab will deco VS in the dirty, grimy style from the WFC Siege. Then if they reach tier 3 it will be done in a nice clean deco without all the shmutz. Can guarantee we would hit that final tier in a nano-second!  

 

I was not aware of that, I passed on that character. What I was seeing was what appears to be chase figure repaint in this case. I honestly don't have an answer for this one other than the speculation the selects version was announced and released early.
That being said, you can always find exceptions to the rule.
