I really like the translucent green plastic used for the Shockwave Lab eyes.

Also, the LEDs mounted in the pupils of the eyes reflect enough light when they're switched off I can actually see Unicron's eyes moving left and right even through the solid eye lenses on the undamaged faceplate.

It looks cool but with them being all translucent it promotes light bleed pretty much everywhere behind that face plate. I like the idea of the 'follow me' pupils when lit up with the gimmick and can definitely picture an improvement of having 2 LEDs.

Fancy testing a little theory for me? I'd like to see how is these new eyes might perform if I were to paint them.
If you've got any masking tape? Try masking them off a bit (except the led obv) stick the standard faceplate on and reports the changes. :)
... Or a bit of well place card could work too.

    Thank you sir.
Looks like it could be just as effective without being translucent eh?
And in darkness, how's the light bleed?

Thanks for humouring me on this.

    We're out dropping science son!

Thanks for this. Would you a agree there's is a slight reduction in light bleed?

I'm thinking I'm going to get the SL kit, paint with a layer of black leaving just the LED exposed then after drying ill l paint them up with a layer of green and some line detail.

To me, if there is a difference, it's very, very subtle. Not enough to prompt me to make any adjustments.

If anything this has taught me how little light is sneaking out through the sides of the SL eyes.

The most effective way to prevent light bleed would be to paint the inside of Unicron's faceplate so the light reflects back off a painted surface. Vinyl wrap would work well too. Anything to stop the light pouring through Unicron's transparent faceplate.

This reminds me of the summer of 2001/2002, when I disassembled Armada Unicron's head, removed the red LED and installed a green one.
I was concerned about how much green light was showing through his gray plastic faceplate. I intended, one day, to paint inside his head to contain the light, but almost 20 years later, I never did get around to doing it.

    Don't mention it!

It was good to have a task to work at for somebody. :thumbs2:

I love how Unicron looks in those photos!

Makes me think of a Rob Zombie album cover.

I think I've seen enough to tell me that the eyes themselves will make for a better light source(s) than behind the forehead (like the Etsy kit).
The eye movement feature will be visable too - extra creepy?

I mght consider a layer of paint on the inside of the face plate too if it doesn't look like the translucent parts are adding to the light bleed.

so many truths spoken , hasbro investors are rubbing their hands together with the huge profits on these , always thought they must be racking in the interest on the money sitting there

I somewhat agree with what he's saying here, but I'd like to see his math on how Hasbro is making $1200 interest on $400 over 12-18 months.

Yup, I'm still cranky about the maw on my Unicron and it's definitely causing me to stay away from Haslab. But hearing that the Sentinel also has trouble posing because of bad joints just makes me want to stay away even more. If Hasbro is asking for that much money up front, the product has to be a lot better.

His understanding of how interest works in laughable. $4m becomes $12m after 18 months due to compound interest? LOL. If they could make 200% gains every year and a half, Hasbro would be in the banking game and never make another toy again.

... When a wet noodle develops self awareness and whines for 30 minutes for a product he would have bought for the same price had it just not been in kickstarter format.

Boy, he sure showed Hasbro by not buying their HasLab stuff and putting that money towards buying... other Hasbro stuff.

And there was no risk. If the campaigns don't hit their target numbers, they don't collect your money. And the folks who have filed claims for defective Unicrons have shown that Hasbro was very supportive in getting replacement pieces sent out.

Why do some people insist on believing that HasLab is out to screw the consumer over by taking your money and disappearing into the night? And Cookie Monster and [I still argue Unicron] demonstrate that these large items are not a surefire success. But the people who pledged to the Cookie Monster campaign weren't out any money, they just received the disappointment of being told they got to keep their money because Cookie Monster wasn't getting made.

This isn't the 80's, there's a reason really large and extremely expensive toys aren't on the shelves anymore at WalMart and Target and... well, those are about all that're left, isn't it? And if those two aren't supporting a company's big, expensive toys, well, it's up to the fans, isn't it?

Spence and MAAS Toys were a risk, HasLab was a minor inconvenience of paying up front and waiting a year and a half.

Edit. Also, Sentinel knee improved upon:
