I liked the episode about him, it had great cross-universe continuity!
Funny how the title mis-grammer'd his name plus the font used, made it look like: "SHIO'S CHOICE".

Happy birthday, Robots In Disguise! You overlooked middle child!

Growing up, this was MY Transformers. Being born in '94, I was too young to get into Beast Wars, but I was the perfect age for Robots In Disguise. It was funny, it had cool designs and everything about it was just became what Transformers WAS to me. Optimus was just a fire truck in my mind. The bad guys just had their own Team Rocket squad who failed hilariously. There was just a poet shark that nobody blinked an eye at. All the characters yelled 'TRANSFORM!' after their names like they were Digimon.

I started rewatching the show fairly recently, and it's just such a fun, wholesome take on the franchise. I really, really just want a handful of anniversary things for it, whatever those may be.

    TF-RID.
The return of a Countach Transformer + Finally a Dodge Viper Transformer + A Mercedes Transformer. (Real Cars!!!)
Then there was the Trains that combined. I was not aware of the Headmaster Series so this was a win for me.
I also was not aware of Fort Max. Megatron had 6 modes, I can give Optimus \"the finger\".
The worst thing was now it was the start of someone I could hate more than Daniel, and I forgot about his level of annoyance.

    ??? Who was that?
I honestly don't remember the humans having much airtime in RiD.

Although there was that unlucky fool that got caught in the middle of the battlefield in every ep...

Kelly for the hall of fame 2k22.

She deserves it after everything she went through on that show.

I remember being deeply, deeply disappointed with the rather chilly reception for Beast Machines and the announcement of RID, thus heralding the end of the Beast Era in the U.S.

...I got over it. And these are the fruits of my 20 year obsession.

Why RID? So many reasons. It's unique engineering in the new molds and fantastic reuse of old molds. It's humor. Black Convoy/Scourge. The fact that it at minimum inspired if not directly caused Hasbro to create the Universe, Classics and Generations lines, that have culminated in the current WFC homage-to-the-classics-fest. Black Convoy/Scourge. The fact that the line literally used molds from every TF line up to that point. And did I mention Black Convoy/Scourge?

There is also, oddly enough, pain - above and beyond the 9/11 connection, in my case. I suffered personal losses in the years immediately following RID's run. My father, for one. My intentions to return to college and eventually study law, for another. RID connects me to the before times, when things were certainly happier and, dare I say, perhaps even carefree (not really, but it is nice to think so). I am not an unhappy person, mind - I am exactly where I was meant to be in my life, no regrets - but RID is a "happy place" for me regardless.

...Beast Machines is still underappreciated, though...

That's a great setup man. I've streamlined down to the besties to make room for more modern stuff, but that right there is giving me the itch to bust them all out again hehe.

What would happen if Gigatron found and use the Angolmois Energy?

RID is one of my personal favorites. I didn't grow up for it, as I wasn't even a year old yet when it began, but I love it to death and have been starting to collect the toys. All I've got right now are some Spychangers. lol

Thanks, man. I've turned around a lot of stuff on display, but RID is sacrosanct in this house.

Excellent write-up man! As a millenial, I saw G1 reruns in kindergarten, but BW (and Machine Wars) was really my introduction. Sometime later we got into the '86 movie, but RID feels the most like "my" Transformers. Still, I hadn't ever heard a G1 OG's perspective on the show. Makes me appreciate it in a new light.

Here's hoping for some new RID figures from Hasbro soon!

Technically CR is the end of the Beast Era.

CR is, but RID isn't, and I think it being its own universe works a lot better imo.

I get that alot but I still have a thing against English dubs that censored anime's story, scene, or music.

From what I understand CR is part of G1 now, but that was a retcon (same with Galaxy Force in the JUT), as written it was meant to be its own thing that didn't really take previous continuity into account. The big changes are post 9/11 re-edits.

I do wonder if there were significant changes to English scripts after that happened beyond the things we know about.

I'd love to write some stuff about Transformers lost media, which there is a surprisingly high amount.

Let's not do this here - this is a RID appreciation thread, not a "debating the merits of localized anime" thread.

Thanks for the writeup, @Tony_Bacala .

I have been reader of the site since the earliest days, and would look at the screen caps you would upload, just wondering about this strange cartoon from across the pond. RiD became my favorite incarnation of the brand, thanks in large part to your hard work and dedication. Thanks for all you've done for the fandom.
