Doesn't that also apply to the Bumblebee movie designs too? Plus the opposite of what you said is true too; just because you don't like them doesn't mean it's a bad design.

 

All you’re doing is being an ass to those who like them. Unnecessary Bayformers hate is really corny at this point and is barely even on-topic in this thread.

Not to mention “just cause you like it doesn’t mean it’s good” is an empty and vapid argument when it comes to your arguments too. Being closer to the source material doesn’t make anything better at all by default for everything. Just makes you sound like an immature gatekeeper type.

 

No. Because when you are making a movie based off of a popular franchise, you don’t then go and make designs that have no type of resemblance to their characters. Has nothing to do with G1 like I said but the fact that they are plainly bad designs. Do you really think most of the bay stuff looks good? Are people really happy with murder prime and all those other designs? Or do they like it for the same reason geewiners like the super toon look? All I’m saying is that the bumblebee movie was the first time we’ve seen our favorite characters updated to actually represent who the character is. The designs seem to be much more cohesive and less of “ehh just make some panels float around til it looks like something”. You can love those designs all you want but when you look at the history of ALL of the TF universe, the bay designs are some of the furthest from the characters they are suppose to be.

 

A gatekeeper of what? I hate the bay designs and I hate super G1 toon designs. I love when things are new like in prime or reimagined like in beast wars. It’s the fact that they had zero care about the franchise they CHOSE to make a movie about, to the point that they not only ruined the designs but also made the transformers props for humans to run around and make dirty jokes about. Transformers has never been about what bay tried to make it and to this day most of the bayverse stuff has been left behind (story, design and character wise). I love that those films brought in so many fans, but I hate that It made transformers some straight guys wet dream and didn’t include any of the things that made the franchise special. Those films, like a lot of its fans, see transformers as transforming robots and that’s it, when we’ve had years of story, character, and great designs that they decided weren’t as cool as what Michael fkn bay had in mind. Giving an opinion is not corny, and feeling a strong way about a franchise I’ve loved for 20 years isn’t unheard of. I love transformers as a franchise, I’m not just a fan of one section of it. And I can love and hate what I want and talk about that all I want on a forum made for discussion about this franchise. It’s really weird how butthurt these super fans of these specific sections of the franchise can get. Me not liking something has nothing to do with what you like. Had you said the BB movie designs were horrible I wouldn’t have cared one bit because that’s ur opinion. Let’s stop acting though like the bay movies are some great thing that came from this franchise. Don’t forget it was bays last movie that almost tanked the franchise. It was bumblebee and it’s better representation of the characters and story that brought people back in and made them excited again. Say what you want but the public spoke. Look up any review of those movies from reaction channels or review channels on YouTube and you’ll see exactly what I mean. The love for those movies is very much within the fandom.

 

What do you mean no? That exact argument that I quoted originally can indeed apply. You're just ignoring that fact. I do think the Bay stuff looks good, great in fact. it's my favorite design style and aesthetic, with most of those designs being my favorite for the character. I'm very happy with "murder" Prime and these designs. The Bumblebee movie designs were just nostalgia bait (Optimus and the Cybertron intro designs at least) and are not necessarily better just because of that. While not immediately recognizable, are you really going to tell me that Ironhide's movie design doesn't fit the character? At the end of the day, its another interpretation of the series and doesn't need to be blindly faithful to everything. You thinking the designs are more cohesive is your own personal bias, it doesn't immediately mean that the Bumblebee movie designs are better.

When it comes to Transformers, I love how different each series is, or at least how different they used to be. There wasn't a big push to keep things similar or borderline the same like it is now until the early to mid 2010's. It's fine if you don't like the Bay designs and characterizations, but it really isn't as separated as some claim to be.

 

That’s my point lol. You like the bay stuff because it’s nostalgic for you. A majority of audiences liked bumblebee because it strayed away from the bayverse, which almost tanked the franchise with TLK. Fixing designs isn’t nostalgia bating when a MAJORITY of people had complaints about how the transformers looked. I think what you are failing to understand is that most of the bayverse love comes from people who grew up with it, not from the pure quality of those movies. The exact argument is that designs are good based on opinion, which isn’t true. You can like the ugly bay designs all you want. It makes them no more transformers than the pacific rim bots are. They don’t follow the design ideals of transformers. They don’t have cohesive robot modes that turn into vehicles. They are vehicles that explode into messes of parts. The ironhide design is absolutely horrible. Ugly face, long ass weird arms with a chest that looks again like a crashed car, and none of it makes sense, especially for the character. Now obviously there are some decent designs, but I mean if I go out and fish for a span of 5 movies I’m bound to catch something. It isn’t a good ironhide design because it’s an ugly robot design. The characters of transformers are defined by how they are throughout the entire media, not just one piece. So again, you can like them all you want. They are not good transformers designs based on the years before and after. The bumblebee movies designs have already crossed over into other media, while the bay design stay where they should, in those movies and far away from what people want nowadays. But I can see this conversation will probably go nowhere because I don’t think you see my point. I guess it’s like, let’s say Superman is always known to have an S on his chest and a blue suit. The design can change all it wants, but the creators will know that hey, this S is super iconic for the character, let’s make sure to include it since most the people this movie is aimed at are going because they already know who Superman is. So imagine going to a Superman movie, and Superman comes out looking super skinny, and fights in a pair of khaki shorts and a tee, for the whole movie. Those who grew up with that will probably always love Superman dressed like that, but those who know who Superman is from the YEARS he’s been around are going to be confused. It’s pure laziness and screams a thrown together series of movies. Michael bay had a lot of contempt for this franchise and it sucks so many fans defend someone who couldn’t give a shit about those movies. It all goes back to the idea of being a specific fan of a piece of a franchise versus being a fan of that franchise. If you are into star wars but hate everything past the OG trilogy, then you are more an OG trilogy fan then a star wars fan. Same way with this stuff. If the bay designs and characters are your favorite then we are fans of this franchise for very different reasons.

 

It seems like a pointless arguement because no one will be convinced of anything. Hate the designs you want to hate, love the designs you want to love, and have your reasons for them too, or not. Either way, don't expect others to agree with you on them, people like and dislike stuff for millions of different reasons.
Might as well agree to disagree and move on. 
I say this as someone who agrees with a lot of what is being said from both sides of the argument, but again that is irrelevant, both to convincing others and to the topic of the thread.

The exposed nose on the jet is weird, but everything else looks amazing. That said, it was kinda hard to see in the movie, but maybe the nose is supposed to be like that?

 

It's accurate to the design in the movie. The Studio Series Starscream has the same nosecone look.

It may be accurate to the design but it's aesthetically unpleasant to my eyes. Hopefully someone will produce an attachment to "complete" the nosecone so it doesn't look half constructed or broken.
