I totally agree. In Cyberverse we have the seekers under the command of Skywarp, a fembot seeker sharing Slipstream's mould class. But we also have Cosmos, as Cosmos, except Cosmos is female and no longer russian. The Skywarp thing seems cool and works well, but the Cosmos thing feels more like bulldozing, for some reason.

Uh... depends, but I can accept in most cases. However, it's always better to make new characters.

Would you also do a cancel culture if a writer put their beliefs into their writing but you agreed with them though? Or is it only when there's An Agenda™ that it's a bad thing, whatever this insidious, undefined agenda is?

Given that TFP Knock Out was a completely new character using the name (and was obviously not a revision of an older character), then I thought the use was acceptable. But sure, feminine characters using the same names as previously masculine characters is fine by me. I don't really care where the characters fall on the gender spectrum, really, as long as they're written well, designed thoughtfully, and don't trample the legacy of a prior character.

OK, I snipped a lot of this but here's my thoughts on the matter.

First: Jersey Shore isn't a kids' tv show, so if I had children, no I would not let them watch it until they were old enough to understand what it actually is. I just don't like those people. Personally, I didn't have good luck with the whole pregnancy and childbirth thing, and I don't personally have kids. Or grandchildren, since I'm 57. So everything I say about parenting comes from observing others and watching people grow up.

Second: It may not be evil to hope that your kids turn out more like you than otherwise, but it often has the effect of making them feel that you will love them less if they do not. And that's harmful even if your intentions are good. For most people, orientation and gender identity just happen and we don't know why. If "influence" could make people change their orientation and identification, given the level of pressure that was put on nonconforming people to change in the past, we would not live in the world that we live in today, because all of that pressure would have worked. What it actually did was make people mentally ill.

So. Don't try to influence your kids' developing romantic interests/gender identity, because if people could do that, all of the people who couldn't change to please their families that they loved would have been able to change. Back in the past, people still lived as a different gender or fell in love with people of the same sex, even though they knew they could and would be killed for it if they weren't careful. And that still didn't stop anyone.

Just make sure your kids know that you love them no matter what.

By the way, Beanie Babies were over in the early 2000s. Seriously. That was a thing 20 years ago. It's not a thing now. And Funko Pops are just little statuettes. There are even Transformers Funko Pops. Beanie Babies and Funko Pops will not change your kids, they're just toys.

It's okay. It's just that it sounds like what really pisses you off is bad writing. :)

    Cosmos was Russian?

Cosmos is Cybertronian, so I don't get that. I thought girl Cosmos was cute.

Yeah they did him with a Russian accent in the Sunbow cartoon and his angle was he's the "Russian Cosmonaut" Autobot, this was 1985, many of the characters were somehow racial or cultural tropes from different parts of the world, whether or not they stood out as such. And Cyberverse Cosmos was very cute indeed. Her arc with Meteorfire is part of what I call the "fun" segment of Cyberverse, where the characters are going on various slapstick adventures on various planets.

Yes. Parents must be very careful about this sort of thing. Which is one reason why, as I see it, your best bet for steering them in a direction is by encouraging them in the direction you want them to go, rather than discouraging them from going directions you do not want them to go. And that is easier if they never get the idea, for example, to collect beanie babies. Because once they do decide that they'd like to collect beanie babies, you would have to tend toward mean and disapproving to put a stop to it, and that's usually not going to be good for them.

Definitely! I am thankfully healthful in this regard, and my partner is as well, and we do keep one another honest about it.

Yes, I am aware. As I specified, it was an off-the-wall example for the sake of discussion. You can replace that trope with any other trope that represents something you would be happier if your child did not get into. Some kind of music, a particular type of video game, a collecting hobby, tagging, body modification, I dunno. Pick your poison! :]

I had my own journey with these things as well, so I do understand that. But after many years engaging in metacognitive navel-gazing I feel that I've come to understand my own path decently well, including some key turning points and influences and the parts at which I made decisions and the parts that did not feel like my decision, and the parts where people and other external influences appeared to directly modify aspects of my nature. Metacognition does not overall seem to be a popular pursuit in our society. Is that just my perception, or do most people not spend a lot of time thinking about thinking? The mechanisms and causality of perception and the formation of likes and dislikes and tendencies and the ability to choose to take control of and alter your reactions and preferences, to adopt a good habit or kick a bad habit, to change the way you feel about doing chores so it becomes easier or even enjoyable, etc.

I personally feel like I'm happier electing an identity than I am expressing an identity. This is important to me because the identity I expressed naturally as a child was not especially functional in a highly social society. Things began to improve for me when I got some level of manual control over it, I suppose. Not that they are totally stellar, but, you learn and grow and find your niche, I suppose. Thank you for responding! <3

Totally. I personally favor creating new characters, and like I said- it seems like basic gender swaps don’t stand the test of time.

OK this is weird because I personally think Flamewar and Slipstream, for example, are very sexy women, even though I prefer IDW1's storyline by far. I don't see what isn't feminine about the hot Decepticon women in IDW2, who make me wish I liked the comic more than I do.

    Flamewar/Rosanna/Slipstream 4 lyfe.

Clobber is another good one to use as an example. They clearly just took Lugnut as a template, did the girl version, gave her a new name, different personality & now we have a new character that can stand next to Lugnut in a room.

My list begins and ends with Misfire, under the sole condition it is spelled as Ms.Fire.
Puns aside, it's good for reimagining less known tf names, especially ones with a bit of zap. Twinferno being a chick would be awesome.

I also find Slipstream interesting (and sexy) in IDW2 comic. Personally, I'm not that much of a fan of IDW2 Flamewar. My favorite version of Flamewar (in terms of character, colors and appearance) is Timeline Flamewar...

As known there is no accounting for taste (and I don't feel like doing that either). : )

I also find Rosanna very charming/intriguing (thats one of the reasons why she appears in one of my fanfictions as well).

I imagine Clobber to be Lugnut’s twin sister, even though they have different alternate modes.

There are many actual female Transformers going underused before fans and writers should think about gender swapping a popular male character.

I think her backstory has her built from spare parts of Megatron. I imagine that would give her quite the inferiority complex.

Rosanna isn't in all my fanfics, but she's definitely in the universe most of them are set in.

I also RP her a lot.

And people care very deeply about comic book and cartoon characters.

    Don’t you know that?

yeah but if someone is older than like 15 and they care THIS deeply about characters made for kids then they have an arrested psychological development and are regressing back into childhood obsessions as a method of escape from life's harsh realities & these unhealthy attachments will ultimately be the thing that divides them from real life and connecting with other people ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
