For my money R.i.D./Car Robots is the best mainline series of toys. So creative and unique. Happy Birthday :)

    20 years!
I remember seeing the pictures of the toys on the internet and watching some tiny clips on my RealPlayer (TM).
Then when it came over to the US I was out of work.
The stores were starting to carry the toys but I just didn't have the disposable income.
Then I got hired at a job the same week the cartoon aired on Fox Kids.
I couldn't really afford it but I got Optimus Prime first.

It was a brilliant idea to make him a fire truck.
It made him familiar yet new at the same time and made sense for such a heroic character.

I was never the biggest fan of this one. That being said, it has it's very own special charm and I'm grateful for it's place in history and for Tony launching this site! I would definitely like to see some 20th anniversary love for this one. A DVD release would be great (and maybe that would open the possibility of the two BW anime series too??).

And an updated Rail Racer would make me super horny.

Would love to see a proper modern release of this. It looks like the only full DVD release the series got was in the UK? I couldn't find anything other than a few US DVDs, and even Japanese releases seem to be individual DVD / VHS volumes.

That's a bummer. I know it isn't really a huge series for the fandom, but this landed while I was in college and is probably responsible for renewing my interest in Transformers. I'm sure it isn't nearly as good as I remember but I'd love to see it again anyways.

This was the show that was running when I started collecting again. So lots of my early collection were figures from this line, specifically Ruination, the Autobot Brothers, Optimus and Magnus, Landfill, Megatron and luckily the Japanese JRX pack :D

Considering this was in 2000/2001 a DVD release would be about the best we can hope for. I think a better approach would be to reach out to Hasbro and see if they are willing to purchase the rights back. I could see Disney maybe someday throwing it up on Disney+, but that would be it, you would never see a physical media release if that were the case. It would be best if Hasbro got it back.

Both CR Subbed, and RiD are on YouTube for the time being at least.

I remember the first time I watched the show in full it was after Beast Machines, and it was a fantastic palate cleanser. Happy 20th anniversary to RID and the awesome characters like Scourge and Sky-Byte and other things I like about Transformers.

Growing up with Beast Wars, i thought RID was some weird spinoff. Little did i know that G1 actually existed, but i had fond memories of the Megatron figure, and the predacon trio.

That’s because it is a spinoff.

Happy B-day  RID! Dunno why you decided to change Speedbreaker\'s name to \'Side Burn\' even though  it uses the original name on the back of the package ;P  Damn fine character though :)

Ever  since G2 I bought each & every  figure &  doubles of each one.  I was  working at walmart  at the  time RID showed up SO got discounts. But I  bought all the  toys  year before at botcon 2000. Cause I had no idea Hasbro  was  going to bring them over or not. So  I just bought one of each to keep sealed. When they Expanded the lind  I bought 2 of those guys I did not have. Shame fortress maximus  did not pass the drop tests. He  shattered when  dropped. Funny in Japan the trainbots  came  on a card, in the US  they were packaged at  the  $15  price point in a box.

    Happy Birthday RID 2001! :bday

Something I love about this show was that, to me it nailed the "Transformers integrated in the futuristic Earth" type of feeling. I know TFA was aimed more towards that aesthetic more. But whenever I think of a futuristic type of Optimus Prime, RID2001's design immediately pops into mind which is one of my favorites. Here's to also seeing a RID2001 inspired Scourge in ROTB.

First of all, I have enjoyed reading all of these posts looking back on the toys and show.

I was also an ATTer back in the day (I was mostly a lurker, much like on here) and like many others, the Car Robots toys got me back into Transformers. I was a GeeWuner for sure; I remember getting the CR Car Brothers imported from Image Anime because they looked like they would scale in OK with my old G1 toys. I remember Speedbreaker/Side Burn having the most complex transformation I had experienced at the time (and essentially had the G1 Blue Bluestreak color scheme I always wanted). Mach Alert/Prowl was just cool and a great update of the G1 Lamborghini Transformers, and Wildride/X-Brawn was something new, bigger, and was awesome as well. And of course, eventually, the USA got the toys and the show! It was fun being old enough to be able to buy the toys myself without asking Mom and Dad like in the G1 days, LOL. Someone earlier posted about the corny humor in the show...my young kids absolutely love it! Would totally buy the series if it was ever released on discs. Oh, and @Tony_Bacala, I did not know about the RIDForever website before today. Fantastic job consolidating a lot of great pictures and information within collections of webpages. I had a great time looking it over. Thanks to all for the memories!
