Same here Also: Gameboy (none of this mobile gaming tripe back in the 90's) EverQuest (aka EverCrack - my younger brother would skip high school to play that game and ended up in so much trouble) Stargate SG-1 Drew Carey Show Fraiser any animation (War Planets/Shadow Raiders, Beast Wars/Beasties) by Mainframe Studios POGs (still have a baggie of 'em somewhere) TFC (Team Fortress Classic) for Quake - good times Homeworld (game)
No, actually the 90s is when US gun violence peaked. This link only runs through 2011, and it has gone back up some since then, but still well below what it was for pretty much all of the 90s. Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware
*sigh* That is what I am slowly realizing. Western culture has become more casual than it was decades ago. We won't enjoy some of the cultural respects that Baby Boomers and other older generations enjoyed. Hence, I am nostalgic. I immediately thought of All That when I saw that post. Does anyone else remember that show? Part of Saturday Night Nick (Snick)? I stand corrected. Given how violent modern times have become, the recent past just SEEMED so much more peaceful in comparison. I keep hearing about gun violence in Portland (close to where I live), and I feel like gun violence is rising, despite not matching the mid-90s peak described in your link. With that mentioned, I miss that childlike ignorance of not knowing about all the bad in the world.
I think gun issues get more coverage now compared to the 90's, and more people are vocal about being tired of it and demanding change.
Generally speaking? The sanity...haha...and the optimism that the world was headed in the right direction.
I think we have a certain tragic event that's going to be 20 years old come next Saturday responsible for at least a good portion of that change.
I miss buying comic books that were issue #1, gimmicky holo embossed lasercut cover art, thinking one day they would be worth good money over time... lol
I don't think it's childlike ignorance when you literally were a child. Higher violent crime stats aside, there was no shortage of giant violent incidents all over the news. LA Riots? Ruby Ridge? Waco? 93 WTC? Oklahoma City? 96 Olympics? Selena, Tupac, Biggie, Versace?
To be fair, I'd hardly consider it controversial to miss having a leadership that brought prosperity.
You'd think that, but there's a whole lot of revisionist history affecting opinions along party lines.
Honestly? Each one of them had someone on their show that was way more beautiful/attractive than them. I've never understood the fascination, honestly.
The Pink Power Ranger, as played by Amy Jo Johnson. Why yes, I do remember her name. Who in the Mortal Kombat movie was prettier than Talisa Soto? Bridgette Wilson was a very close second but they didn’t keep her for part two - though bullet dodged for her.
Besides the obvious "I miss being a kid and not having to worry about being an adult"... I miss malls that weren't basically just giant clothing stores. Seems like any mall I go to these days is 90% clothes, with maybe a soap shop or a bookstore. In a way, I miss the time before the internet access (or at the very least social media) was prevalent. For all the good, there's a lot of bad. Spoiler: Almost ranting list of my internet-related issues Reliance on internet access for increasingly mundane things. Over-representation of certain things (particularly in the form of echo chambers) that make people believe unusual (in some cases even undesirable) things are actually common and accepted. Overexposure of and to negative things. Click bait. Security threats (even to things like utilities, nowadays). Identity theft. The rise of "influencers" who are usually just glorified advertisers and/or narcissists. Helping to kill many brick and mortar stores. A steadily increasing risk of death to physical media (and thus legal ownership of said media in any literally tangible form) due to streaming. Probably more I can't think of right now.
I miss transfat and artificial flavors/sugar... food tasted alot better then. So much food now is supposedly healthier yet isnt, tastes like crap and still people are fatter/unhealthier than ever. Of course its all about moderation, and exercise. Fat kids were like unicorns back then, yet now.....Also some of the best snacks and breakfast cereals ever...pizzarios, fruit wrinkles, an actual good tasting Ghostbusters cereal, frankenberry that didnt taste like crap, ecto cooler, etc...
