Amazon UK Dispatch note on Battle Across Time Mirage & Grimlock!

Edit: grrrr. Turns out the order was an order with Amazon EU through Amazon UK so not covered by the preorder price promise and rather more expensive than I was expecting!

THIS is what should have been.

Sadly, I don't trust my painting skills to do something similar.

Got my Earth Mirage and Grimlock set in today, and unfortunately my Grimlock is missing the "bone sword" section of his tail completely. Has this happened to anyone else?

Got my set in from Pulse today. All I can say about Grimlock is that if you didn't like how he looked in the preview pics having him in hand probably won't change your mind. Still a BW Grimlock that won't crumble to dust on you, though.

And Mirage is Mirage. No surprises here. His unpainted weapons and lack of a shoulder port for the missile launcher remain disappointing, but otherwise I like him.

This is what I expected, but less shiny.... Imagine my massive disappointment. It's not a lot of paint it's not complex either.

Well, kind of unhappy with Mirage. He's one of those figures where they could make him fantastic but chose not to get it right.

My original plan almost worked. I was indeed able to swap the legs and he looked pretty good in robot mode but the blues did not match. Even the whites were a little off.

The problem was tabbing. I knew the arms wouldn't tab (they didn't on my Siege original, either) and I was fine with that. What threw the monkey wrench in was that nothing tabbed. There's no way to make the Siege legs connect to the torso, so vehicle mode sags like they cut the car in half for a sitcom gag. So close, yet so far.

So, I put them back together with their respective parts and honestly, part of me likes the Siege version more. Even with translucent plastic that's bound to fail, it holds together better than this version does. (In pretty much both modes.)

The shoulder mount being removed is a killer. Honestly, it does indeed ruin his look and just feels wrong. They were so close and yet somehow just decided "yeah, that'll do." And it's infuriating.

    Icing on the cake?

I wonder if I could just barely open a hole on the shoulder using a 5mm drill bit to place the shoulder launcher without going through the mushroom peg underneath... Is it just the sides of the peg doing the holding/attachment or does it need the solid roof portion of the shoulder assembly to stay on the peg?

Judging by the box art, I think *This* is what should have been.

Though I did bring in a Dalmatian spot homage on his biceps because this apparently "Uprising"-based Grimlock does seem to take cues from both Spotted Grim and the 2003 Armada-adjacent Walmart Dinobots BW Dinobot repaint.
For someone willing to drill, I'd suggest starting small by drilling a 3.1mm hole in it's centre then drilling out another about a half-inch out from the 5mm peg on the launcher to glue a LEGO peg part culled from an antenna or other skinny 3.1mm handle part for mounting it.
It would be likely to leave the hinge more intact for stability, and attaching by either stock 5mm post on the complete weapon has the launcher either awkwardly too far forward, or too far back (IMO).

I do not but I ordered shoulder mounts from JRC design. They'll be here this week.

Well damn, someone or something along the way marked my shipment as undeliverable and they got sent back to Amazon. Can't retrieve package.

    Out of stock now, natch.

    :(

Let's hope this is just an isolated incident and not a sign of 2020 Amazon exclusives, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo. I wouldn't be too broken up if I missed out on this set but I'd better get my Sideswipe.

I dunno, something screwy might be going on again, because mine is in the same boat. Was out for delivery last week, then got a delay notice on the day it was set to receive. Now it says the package was regarded as "undeliverable", and is being returned to sender. Also in Canada.

Got my set in, Mirage has the misaligned autobot tampo and his head likes to pop out of place when swiveling it for transformation. Other than that the set isn't too bad

My symbol is misaligned as well. I’m sure toyhax will take care of it.
