We don't know exactly but it's likely that it's more solid clip connections than simple 5mm. You can see what looks like a big clip on the insides of VL's shins

That's a horrible analogy. Again, this isn't a Kickstarter where you can just include a ton of add-ons. Star Saber technically isn't guaranteed to be produced, that's the whole point of HasLab.

I'm sorry that I was not very clear, I wasn't talking about Saber, I was talking about Star Saber's forearm holes, they are filled in on the MP Star Saber.

They are on this one as well, it's just further in, you can see it in some digibashes.

What extra guns does he even need anyway? Most of the crap on that list is filler junk that hits the consumer's dopamine receptors to make them think they're getting more value out of a product they're getting. It's not necessary.

It's like all the cheap junk they load up into loot crates.

The reason is that unlike Kickstarter, Haslab projects don’t change the price when unlocking more tiers. On Kickstarter you have different prices you select, and thus the more you spend the more you get. With VS there’s only the one $180 USD pledge. Extras are unlocked if enough of these pledges are reached as with more and more pledges individual unit cost goes down thus making them viable, but they can’t just throw in anything they want in case it exceeds the profit margins of that original asking price.

he only major hole I see is the gap from his wrist transformation. The others look like intentional details, like vents or jets for the VStar mode

I would have preferred a little sword and the MP shield as a tier 1 instead honestly.

Ah, well with the exception of the one that appears to be for transforming they all appear to be sculpted detail like thruster vents.

Having too many add-ons in too wide a variety of items is usually how Kickstarters lose money.

Hasbro isn’t some mom & pop. Every single one of their vendors has pretty significant MOC quantities. If they don’t use their usual vendors, that means they have to burn time and resources finding vendors that can fulfill items to their standards.

In addition, every new thing you add changes the shipping configuration and weight. Throw in a poster? Now you need a tube. Adding a shirt? Great - still need an additional box for that. Each additional package is a new shipping fee since you can’t add them to the standard shipper they’ll be using for all of the Victory Saber sets.

The question is how many additional orders the tchotchkes you’re suggesting would create. IMHO, I don’t think these things would move the needle in any meaningful way. Maybe there’s someone who’s waiting for the ability to add on a shirt before buying a $180 Transformer? But the items in and of themselves are likely net zero profits items or may even come at a loss.

I like how the word free is being thrown around, as if it makes getting filler junk more palatable :D

It's all in the structure. The best argument I hear against doing tiers with add-ons for this would be pre-existing relationships/contacts that would force Hasbro to use specific vendors. Those would certainly need to be accounted for. Obviously Hasbro isn't going to do anything that loses them money or threatens those relationships.

With enough planning, I think that this could be highly profitable and create huge word of mouth for the Brand. Just because some people think it's extraneous, doesn't mean it's extraneous for others.

Didn't Star Saber have shoulder rockets like the MP Starscream does under his chest? That would be cool to see

You are absolutely right. It would be a good idea to plan; figure out how to make sure it can be done, done well, and done profitably. Behind the scenes work would need done to figure out the right mix of add ons, and what to make available at each tier. It would be no different than what Hasbro does with everything else they do. Add-ons should be a strategic part of your crowdfunding campaign, and wouldn't be something you just slap together.

I think you're grossly overestimating the impact of such add ons. MAYBE a coin like the Hasbro Asia MPs, but other than that the rest is just unneeded and largely undesired. No one is buying a toy for a shirt and I certainly wouldn't wear that shirt in public. At best, they can offer tie in merch independently on Pulse, but not what you're suggesting

Also let's not forget Haslab is already kind of a niche thing (by its very nature it gives fans figures that otherwise lack the ability to see a broader avenue of release) so further splintering it with different add-on tiers when the whole appeal is that everyone pays the same fixed price risks limiting and already limited market pool.

Why bother? Virtually no one has asked for the majority of add-ons mentioned, and like I said before the fixed price mechanic of Haslab means they can't just add things indefinitely.
