Yet another unrealistic beauty standard for fembots to aspire to. It is almost worth getting just for the absurdity, but it is by no means good. It's a thing to have on the shelf and marvel at its existence, that so many people designed this, looked at it, and thought it was okay to sell, for real money.

Come on guys... This is clearly a reference to Dreamwave's Generation One volume one issue one cover. It is intentionally like this and is supposed to represent the Pat Lee artwork. It is pretty much a one to one representation if you put his gun in the left hand. Essentially this is Bad Box Art Mega Man for the Transformers fandom.

 

Maybe, but at least from the looks of it, they're not advertising it as such, and I doubt any Dreamwave art is as notorious in the Transformers community as Mega Man 1's box art guy is. He's gotten acknowledged in the form of being an actual playable fighter in Street Fighter X Tekken, and tons of art. While Bad Box Art Mega Man is very clearly not the standard Mega man people are used to, Dreamwave Optimus Prime is just...Optimus Prime with wacky proportions, and they weren't even as weird as this.

Plus, for things like this, you can't force memes or in-jokes. They gotta grow naturally in the community, and then you make weird memorabilia of them. Dreamwave not only isn't the subject of memes, it's just been forgotten.

Someone clearly thought it'd be a good idea. Not saying it was, but if I was subscribed to that box and got it then I'd be fairly amused. There are people in this thread that like it, for one reason or another, and it is a part of Transformers history. It just seems like a quirky item to be different and stand out against the standard designs.

As for why they aren't promoting it as Dreamwave or Pat Lee inspired I think that is likely due to the fallout of the whole Dreamwave situation. Whether it was Pat Lee himself or an unnamed and possibly unpaid artist that drew this particular piece may be in doubt. So, specifically name checking him might be in at best poor taste and at worst giving him undeserved credit. It may have been originally intended to be advertised directly, but someone somewhere decided it'd be a bad idea.

That's what I think anyway. Either way it is really obvious if you look at the cover and the statue side by side.

 

I'm not saying you are wrong in fact I have the same suspicions. But I still don't get why, no one cares anymore.

Honestly this feels like it was designed to be looked at from one angle and that's it.

This bothers me.

Somebody did this, looked at it, and said “yeah, now THIS is art!” And then somebody else got convinced that this thing was “art”, and greenlit it.

It’s just an Optimus with a shrunken midsection…. And incase anyone wants to jump on me about it, I know what chibi is, I know what super deformed is. But this is neither of those things… this looks like they contracted a “modern” artist to make something bold and creative… and it looks about as bold and creative as most modern art.
