Totally makes sense - lava is hard to do but adding all the LEDs would certainly help the "glowing" effect. I find that is the trickiest part with doing lava.

 

My newest diorama project. Doing the Cybertron-based scenes is really tricky because they can end up looking too "cartoony" if you know what I mean? I tried to capture the essence of the Decepticon HQ on Cybertron here but without it looking childish, but purple metal is tricky to do without it looking too "cartoony." I don't mean to disparage anyone who likes that cartoon look but that's not the exact aesthetic at which I aim. Instead, I prefer an homage to the cartoon but with a bit more realism. Not sure I accomplished that here but its my goal nonetheless.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated!

 

They look good to me man..as far as purple metalic..there is purple metalic paint out there found some when planning out my space bridge..and i get the real vs cartoon thing i think in the end my ark crash site will look more like a playset than real life but i am happy with it so far

 

Still need to paint the tarmac. And add V2 Thundercracker and V2 Skywarp.


Sherman Dam power station is coming along nicely.


Korlonium Crystals will be add at the base once I make them. The auto-scout doesn't know what will hit it.


Chaar has been re-painted and is finished. If/when Fans Toys makes Scourge and the Sweeps, I'll populate with Decepticons.


Not sure what scene/cartoon episode I'm creating here. Was going to be Dinobot Island but not enough room for all of the Dinobots without looking super cramped.

 

I like how it can accommodate that many big figures. Its nice.

 

I've looked at several metallic purple paints and just never found one I liked. I'm sure you are right, though, that there would be one out there that would work really well for this.

I look forward to seeing how your Ark display turns out - the entrance is really well done and all of the LEDs should add a lot of cool shadowing effects to amp up the realism.

 

These look like a really promising start - what kind of bookshelves are those? The space appears taller than what I've got on the Billys from IKEA but it could be the pictures playing tricks on me.

I really, really like the sculpting done on the Korlonium Crystal diorama - that small cave for Ravage is great and will be really terrific once it is painted and all the shadows play with the background and painted rocks.

 

I’ve got to get me some of those Tamashii Effects.

 

I’m using the Billys from IKEA. I’ve got them set up to four shelves per bookcase so that’s why they look a lot larger in the photos. Thanks for the scultping compliment. I did that in layers and then glued them together to make them look a little more natural. I did add blackwash and may drybrush it. It depends on how the rest of the scene will look as it goes on.

The lighting looks nice in person, but it’s either my phone or maybe my phone, poor 4s, that is making the pictures look darker than they are.

I think Tamashii stopped making them for a while and may be making them again. Definitely worth the buy.

No worries, it looks amazing and I'm enjoying the evolution.

Myself, I'm taking forever with my project due to just life, getting sick again and that sort of stuff, but I did get some stuff done on the weekend, not as much as I wanted, but some is better than none. It's amazing how much time some "minor" things can take.

 

Hope your feeling better..yea some minor stuff becomes more real quick..of course ill run out of shelf space sooner or later lol
