Agreed. When it comes to Fans Toys and Takara for me, Fans Toys ends up a lot of the time being the super-solid no holds barred ultimate main display bot for me. But with Takara, I see figures that despite their issues, do the things they do amazingly, and no company has ever really gotten the hang of either at all or as consistently as they have. The two big ones for me being aesthetics and accessories.

Takara has always had my favorite aesthetic philosophy, being true to the cartoon, while giving their bots a bit of an anime-style edge. Probably the best example I can offer for a direct comparison is Sunstreaker.

    upload_2021-9-5_18-47-50.png

Mainly the tightening up and slickness of the proportions to offer something a bit more cohesive, while being as faithful as possible.

Fans Toys meanwhile, while in a similar light, kinda offers at times a bit of realism to

And that extends to the accessories as well, by those I mainly am speaking about the faces. Which by no surprise to a lot of you who've seen me bitch about them from time to time (fair warning, i'm gonna do much of the same here), are something I care a lot about because only Takara has gotten the idea of them right, and does so with almost every release.

Something like what we saw with Starscream should honestly be echoed as a standard across the board, 3P or official.

Hell, I like seeing that X-Transbots, for one, is responding by doing just that, and heck, even upping numbers like 'Screamer's to another level.

    upload_2021-9-5_19-1-26.png

But they have problems of their own as well. Sometimes their faces either look too similar to each other...

    upload_2021-9-5_19-2-50.png upload_2021-9-5_19-2-58.png upload_2021-9-5_19-3-13.png upload_2021-9-5_19-3-20.png upload_2021-9-5_19-3-28.png upload_2021-9-5_19-3-39.png

or just flat out need work to look even better.

    upload_2021-9-5_19-3-58.png

Like come on... the eyes need work, XTB.

    upload_2021-9-5_19-5-23.png

To bring it back to Fans Toys, though, they personally suffer from two issues. Their faces sometimes need some work, but most importantly, the quantity is basically fucking unacceptable.

As a perfect example, Tesla 2.0, has a very nice amount for FT standards, but two faces could look a BIT better.

    upload_2021-9-5_19-11-59.png

    upload_2021-9-5_19-12-3.png

    Get my drift?

Accessories as a whole though, lemme offer up both Janssen and Tesla again as a recent example of this.

    Tesla 2.0 (3 replacement faces, 2 guns?)

    upload_2021-9-5_19-22-2.png

Janssen (3 guns, 5 replacement faces, Microbot figures of Perceptor (in both bot and alt modes), Brawn and Bumblebee, blast effect, 2 IDW heads as pre-order bonuses and a chemistry set)

And to offer a FT vs Takara example, how about Grinder and MP-08?

Grinder (excluding the replacement parts for the other bots) (Crown, sword, replacement eyes, replacement head, replacement dino head topper)

MP-08 (Crown (depending on release), gun, sword, apron & bowtie, beverage tray with glasses)

What i'm getting at is that I think Fans Toys has the ability to, and should, branch out a bit more and offer a bit more variety rather than just going with the basics. A big reason why I mention this is the pricing as of recent. If they are gonna offer their figures for the prices they're putting them up for, why not add more to them to make them more worth the price?

To bring all of this to the subject of Cliffjumper though, here's the thing. Parkour looks like a stronger piece, but I think Takara, while also looking like a very nice piece, also has the extras that help to elevate it to match.

Though to tie the knot on this, Fans Toys in the end ends up for me being a very strong but more barebones definitive piece, while Takara feels like a more complete package. And I think for the better of everything, everyone, both official and 3P, should try to find a happy medium, a strong definitive piece while having a lot along with it that helps complete the package and make the purchase worth every penny.

I know most of my posts find a way to smack talk XTB, but even they got me with Ultra Mega Chicken, and I do hear you on XTB upping their game. A G1 aesthetic Dethasaurus at the appropriate scale was something I want badly enough that I'll take a chance. I'm not brave enough to believe in anything else though. Especially not at the prices that XTB is charging on some of these figures. I dont see how they can make a profit on their Perceptor at that price point. I only kept my Tesla for now, but I'd love to have to eat my words on Janssen. TBH though, I cant make heads or tails of XTBs pricing when one minute you get a ridiculously low price on Janssen, and the next you see exactly what you'd expect to get charged on Abbadon and Zeusaurus and way more than you'd expect for a non-transforming figure like Frankenstein.

With FT the price is always a bit high, but I at least have an idea of the ballpark. Similarly, I've never thought "that's way too cheap and its gonna fall apart". Not that it's stopped it from breaking. *Cough* JABBER *Cough*, but I've never thought it.

Unless they do what they've done before and hold off on it for a few years after Takara's.

I think you've made the opposite point of what you were trying to. Those images look SHOCKINGLY similar. In my mind I pictured Nightbird being far more different-looking from the cartoon than this toy is... basically, aside from the backpack and the shoulders being round instead of having a sharp cuff ringing around their tops, almost every detail of these things is the same. In the process of disproving your own point, you're making me want to buy this figure, which I didn't before because prior to this because I used to think the same as you.

Well… if it pushes another figure up the production line the gif still applies I guess   I’m good waiting while they dunk Blitzwing and 3 point Jazz and Mirage.

Yeah I don't get why it matters if tt is releasing theirs. It doesnt hurt us or ft in the long run. If tt does cj first and ft holds theirs back that just means ft will release something else instead. They dont lose anything and we potentially gain a new character. If ft does release theirs at the same time as tt then we just have options and i doubt itll hurt either company much

I think that the FT mold looks much better than the TT mold this time. Wish FT would release this guy but just not sure they will. Too close. It took years to get Acoustic Wave after MP-13.

I try not to wade into the "which is better" debates, but IMO the TT one looks like garbage compared to FT's.

Same. There’s pros and cons to a lot of moulds but for CJ I really want this one sooner

I'm sure TT Cliffjumper will look a bit better once ready and painted. But the FT render/prototype looks so damn promising! They 100% nailed the proportions. If the final product comes anywhere near it will crush the official one.

It does look better but it's also at least a year or two away. Unless they suddenly start pumping out multiple figures a month, which I wouldn't hold my breath for. Look at this backlog (in no particular order):

    Soundwave
    Cassettes
    Huffer
    Newer Sexier Perceptor
    Skullcruncher
    Blitzwing
    Trailbreaker
    Jazz
    Mirage
    Hoist
    Cerebros
    Fort Max
    Dead End
    Slingshot
    Fireflight
    Cliffjumper
    Outback
    Powerglide
    Chromedome
    Scourge

If we were to get 1 per month starting now it would still take 19 months to get them all, and Cliffjumper will likely be towards the end of the list, and we probably won't be getting a consistent 1 per month (especially since they are likely to have reissues of Weirdwolf and the remaining Dinobots at some point, and maybe Reflector too).

I would take Soundwave off the "backlog" list. Sure almost every store is waiting for it to actually arrive, but it is "out". Sourge can take it's place to keep the list the same length.

Can't believe I forgot Scourge. So it's actually 19 months to get through everything...

As for Soundwave, eh, point is he's taking up the November slot, which is why I said once a month starting now.

FTs most productive year was 6 new molds, correct? So this is more likely the release schedule for the next 3 years with reissues mixed in. That's some advanced planning! I wonder what the market will be like in 2024/2025!
