Is anyone here involved in the actual Joe community? Not just collecting but you know other people or you follow other people on social media. I need help.

I'm skipping him on two fronts:

    1) He looks BORING AS SHIT. He isn't too different from the design I hated from Rise of Cobra. I wish they just "teched" him up like they did for Snake Eyes. A modern take on his classic uniform rather than what we got.

    2) The same reason why I skip on Marvel Legends figures with long coats or dresses or skirts like that. They just get in the way and hamper articulation.

You talking as in actually work for Hasbro?

Saw it today for the 1st time in person but passed. That off-white they used and lack of weathering make it look very plain. Likeness was okay.

I figured ''screw it''. The color is bad. He looks like a wuss, mixed in with Classified. Going back to the walmart.

From the GI Joe rpg or board game, most of the other art I’ve seen uses Classified designs, Ace here looks like it’s from Spytroops but Shipwreck… wonder if this will be the design used for him in Classified

I was on the fence in regard to buying a couple of the SE movie figs. Saw the movie and hated it so much, I lost all interest in them.

I have an authorization charge from GS for the 501st but I hope it will fall off soon since I can’t image they’re shipping soon.

Honestly Shipwreck as just a fuckin' WWII Seaman is literally fucking stupid as shit.

Let's just make Shipwreck a Navy SEAL. Literally makes more sense, and he can actually hang, skill wise with Wetsuit and Torpedo. Also being a SEAL means he loses none of his seamanship, as he's still a sailor, but now he gains skills that are actually more in line with what the Joe team would want to do.

Wetsuit and Torpedo are themed as UDT/Combat Divers, but Shipwreck could be a clandestine ground ops themed SEAL.

My dream Classified Shipwreck would be something like this. Camo pants and sci-fi boots, and a top that's either camo or part wetsuit, and he's got some vest and a re-breather and some removable dive gear on him. Sure it wouldn't be classic Shipwreck but let's be honest...Classic Shipwreck looks like a total fucking pussy compared to everything else in the Classified line.

I literally cannot fathom the idea that a ARAH looking Shipwreck could actually hang with the likes of Classified Beachhead or Gung Ho, much less W1 or Artillery Roadblock.

I get where you're coming from but actually that outfit was in use as recently as the 2000s. It wouldn't be as out of place as you think it is, and at the time is was a modern military uniform for that service branch.
Related to that, if Shipwreck has the outfit you describe, what then sets him apart from any other soldier? How would someone look at him and immediately see him as a Navy sailor?

I dunno, something about a guy who rolls into battle against a ruthless terrorist organization in a shirt with rolled up sleeves and a sailor cap says badass to me a lot more than a guy bloated up with a bunch of gear.

That said i'm not against the rolled sleeves, we just got this back in the Army and i do it bcuz it just people nuts, take that for always taking away our boonie cap!!!!!end rant

lets be honest, none of the joes really wear gear outside of Snakeeyes, and he's a freaking trained ninja so everything is weird when you really look at things

From a practical/tactical perspective, I agree with everything you said. I just want ARAH/Sunbow Shipwreck with the full Classified articulation and scale, honestly. I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up getting multiple versions of him to satisfy the various hopes and expectations.

The one I am a bit concerned with is Spirit. I liked him back in the day and still do. With the whole PC thing going on I doubt we will get a 1984 version of him. I can see Hasbro going in the direction of the Pursuit Of Cobra figure that came out at a TRU exclusive.

That's kind of my point though. I don't want him to look like "just" a sailor. I'd want him to look like a guy that'd actually have a place doing direct action against Cobra. For the record even as a kid I never liked Shipwreck either. He didn't have a cool gun and he didn't look cool. I also never had Keel Haul nor the Flagg, but at least with Keel Haul he's in command of the Flagg so he's got all kinds of responsibilities and he looks the part for that.

My argument is that I'd rather people see him as a SEAL rather than a sailor. Not to mention ALL SEALs are sailors anyways. You're a Sailor when you enlist, anyways.

That's what I loved about the Rise of Cobra and Dollar General Shipwreck. It made him look like the kind of combat diver swimming up to shore at night waiting to fuck up that enemy and give them the most horrible night of their lives. Hasbro could compromise and use the Beach Head torso and give him combat/swimming gear like a SEAL would have with some new legs and he could be like an homage to the GI Joe
Well, I wouldn't consider most guys who roll up to terrorists gear bloated...none of the Classified guys are, really. Hell, Beach Head is pretty consistent with how geared up many contemporary soldiers would really look, barring additional load bearing gear like various kinds of backpacks and what not.

While we're on the subject I'd even call the Classified guys largely under geared. Flint's redesign for Classified is one of the most sensible as he's actually got some goddamn body armor on. Something good and sensible to have in combat.

I'll be blunt and say that the Classified aesthetic, even the colorful Wave 1 figures, is one of the fucking coolest redesigns GI Joe has gotten. It's modernized, near future looking, yet still recognizable as the characters they're meant to be. You'd have to be arguing in bad faith if you tell me you can't recognize even the most contentious figures as a figure you remember. W1 Roadblock may not be V1 Roadblock, but he's absolutely a modernized V2 Roadblock which is still acceptable to me.

My issue is that Super 7 is doing ARAH and Mezco is more or less doing ARAH also. I don't think Hasbro needs to make Classified yet another ARAH redo. Barbecue looks BORING. Breaker is hands down BORING and I'm not even sure if I'm keeping him or customizing him. Artillery Roadblock is BORING. The only reason why I have these three isn't necessarily that I wanted them but rather the FOMO aspect of GI Joe exclusives. Hell, I got Breaker more for the Ram than I did breaker himself. I'd rather have Dial Tone since he's a much cooler looking communications guy than Breaker is(And also he's Oregonian, fuck yeah!).

My personal stance on GI Joe is that if they're going to keep focusing on ARAH then I'm good with what I have. All the more power to you guys who want this stuff. I'd make an argument that if you don't like the colorful, near future look then at the very least Gung Ho, Flint, and Beach Head SHOULD be the model Hasbro is aiming for. Classic looks instantly recognizable yet very modernized with designs that would conceptually make sense in a "modern" military combat sense.

Which would honestly be better. We really don't need to have Spirit as a Native American stereotype. I hope Hasbro keeps it respectable and doesn't go back to that trash.
