Do you know if IKEA provides replacement glass (back panel), or are you suggesting to replace the panel from an outside source (home depot, etc) that could cut a new piece of glass to fit?

I will def look into the clear film lining too

Ikea will replace either the glass or whole detolf for you no charge. Doesn't matter on age.

It's the design and that you have to hold the units together by the glass in tension and compression.

It happens occasionally, not common but not unusual. Usually it's if overtightened at assembly but given age yours may just be gradually weakening/overheated/cooled.

Nothing better than a Detolf for the money.

Loads of technically better display options now from ikea that don't let the dust in, like the MILSBO, RUDSTA etc but you can't beat the Detolf value and sheer perfect fit for collectables inc lego, marvel legends, transformers, hot toys etc

ah that coverage/warranty must be location based. I’m located in hk and they didn’t do anything for me. Not much of a return or after service policy here.

Anyone have a way to hang/suspend seekers and what not from the glass above? Also, what are people using for shelving, I bought some figure/pop shelf and I'm not too impressed with it.

@Blade3D - I can answer the first question for you: Use fishing reel line. :D

Strong enough hang Star Wars: X-wings, Tie Fighters, Tie Bombers, Star Destroyers, GI Joe: Skystriker, Cobra Raven, Trouble Bubbles, Rattler and maybe a Playmates: Borg Cube/Sphere, Enterprise, Defiant, Klingon/ Romulan Bird of Prey from the bed room ceiling (however not the G1 Max brothers - Fort Max, Grand Max or Brave Max as they're both over 5 lbs and failed the drop test).

Would I just use a suction cup and fishing reel line?

You can do that also @Blade3D. Just make sure that seekers don't make a kamikaze nose dive into the displays and shatter the shelf with the deadly impact.

HD can help you cut polycarbonate to the same size as the Detolf tempered glass panel, but it will look a little different, and polycarbonate panels of that height will bend/flex.

So IKEA is out of defolfs everywhere, presumably for supply chain reasons. I’m getting back into it and sold all 6 of my detolfs a year ago when I was going to move overseas, but that fell through (FU COVID). Anyway, suggestions on available substitutes?

Both the rudsta and milsbo cases are nice, wider and more expensive than a detolf, but overall nicer in my opinion

After my Detolf issue, I took it as a blessing in disguise, and decided to look into replacing some built-in shelves in the man cave that were serving no purpose -- with the plan to move my collection from an upstairs small office (where the Detolfs were) and down to a larger open wall.

See how that will turn out.

Ended up going with heavy duty floating shelve system for my basement man cave which will have 4 shelves spanning an entire 175inch wall.

Now to figure out how to sell/move the non-broken Detolfs which I won't be using anymore.

It was a good run, but something about having an entire wall of multiple open shelves, dust issues or not, is just enticing -- more room to spread out lines rather than crammed in a 15 x 15 cube essentially and with everything open, easier to run LED strip lighting across each shelf without having to maneuver through glass.

Anyone in the New England area in need of cases, feel free to let me know and we can work something out for what i won't be using

I used the small grooming shears that come with hair clipper sets. Now that I think of it the air hose has lasted longer than the original parts.

I think they changed materials to save money, most of mine have cracked and I don't want to drive to Ikea just to see if I can get some replacements.

    My detolf story
I bought four detolfs in September 2020 and pondered getting a fifth but decided to wait until I set up what I had. I had heard about ikea discontinuing them back in December but figured it might be a rumour since months later my local ikea still had plenty in stock. In August after finally setting them up in the space I designated for them I realized that I did indeed have room for another one. Ikea's website said they had none in stock so I clicked on the option for them to notify me when they finally get some. I rechecked a few weeks ago only to find they had COMPLETELY removed detolfs from their website  . The FOMO panic kicked in immediately so I asked my sister to find me a used detolf (she loves hunting down used furniture) while I brainstormed other options. I finally settled on a shelving system which I customized to the approximate same dimensions of the detolfs I already had. I actually fell in love with the idea because it breaks up all the glass. Finally maybe a week after I finished my setup my sister found me a detolf for $40 cad (they're regularly $79 cad). Bonus was that it was still in its original box :) . It's currently sitting in my garage in case I need it.

*Edit: just for fun I checked my local Ikea a few minutes ago and they now have detolfs back in stock

Anyways here's my current display. I left gaps between the detolfs because I need to access the light switches behind them...

Bad ass display man. Protip, install a smart switch like this:

    https://www.amazon.com/Kasa-Smart-Light-Switch-TP-Link/dp/B01EZV35QU

Download the Kasa app, connect to Alexa or Google home. Now you can use your voice to turn on, off.

Alternatively, install a motion sensor switch like this:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WM3ALC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
To automatically turn on when you approach. Can be programed to turn off when no motion detected within 1 to 30 mins.
