Someone bought my son that Mega 1-step orange Bumblebee and he never plays with it. He sticks with the deluxe, voyager, and those buzzworthy crash combiner things.

I mean. Those are already good points.

(Plus, they make some nice kitbashing projects if you wanna give these lads some leg articulation too.)

I only want the Megatron and Optimus 2-pack, I actually like them. Starscream looks cool too, though.

Oh noes! Hasbro is re-releasing toys that aren't for 40-something adult collectors! end of world!

    sigh.

I got the Cyber Battalion Prowl and Sideswipe figures for my kids - 4 and 2 and a half - and they absolutely love them. They're great figures, and surprising they have both elbows and knees. Was shocked when I saw that. Definitely ordering the Optimus/Megatron set. Would like to see a few more done in this style.

There are the Authentics Alpha and Bravo price points. The Authentics Shockwave is baller and the Barricade looks sweet. Definite companion pieces and fun for your kids.

Shouldn\'t these be retail? The only way kids can get this is if they have a parent that\'s a fan of TF, happened to stumble upon this, and decided to order it for the child.

When I was a little kid, I had higher quality toys than these. The toys I had in the 1980s are now called “adult collectibles”.

I (like most of us) was obsessed with transformers at about 4-5. I was born in 87 so mom got all kinds of them at garage sales. I destroyed all of them. Lost the missels and hands, broke the delicate plastic joints. The G1 toys were many things, but durable they aren't. I think we all now comb the new appreciation threads for signs of toy breakage. These things are great. A 4 year old can drag megs and prime with them everyday everywhere and this chunky plastic ain't going no where. Even the price point isn't too bad . I hope they sell out.

Eh. The guy was discussing possible figures that go with these re-releases. The Authentics bargain line isn't crap at all. They're great toys, with voyager class size and easier deluxe level transformation schemes. For half to a third of the cost of a voyager you get a great toy with decent paint apps at the cost of waist, ankle and wrist articulation. That said, they're also good for kids. They're extremely tough, with rubberized accessories that keep young children from breaking them when handled roughly. I have most of the later releases - Shockwave, Soundwave, and Barricade. They're great figures and have actual shelf presence.

You feel like your childhood toys were superior and maybe they were in choice of materials AND design. That's fair, but I think one of the things that make them collectible and what makes a toy valued based on the overall condition is the fact that they were relatively fragile. Yes they were for kids, but they also had a far greater propensity to get destroyed during play. Coming up with a minty one almost 40 years later commands thousands of dollars because they're hard to find and keep that way.

I'm probably as old as you, and I recall having Transformers too. While I can't speak for everyone else, by the time I was 10 most of them had been scuffed, smashed, broken or damaged in some way, with missing accessories, torn decals and more than a few broke due to the attachment of die cast to plastic. Standing in the toy aisle as a parent, if I want to get my young son something I'm going to want something that can take a beating, has few accessories to lose, and can allow him to transform them on the fly.

In short, are they "superior" to 84 toys? Maybe not in quality and design. But they are way more fun and won't break when your kid hurls them at a wall which is something they're inclined to do imitating the various battles and explosions the show had to offer. Flatly, I have a massive collection of official and 3P figures of all sorts. However, when I can sit on the floor and transform these figures in under a minute while playing with my fast paced 4 year old without missing a beat while he laughs and does the best Skeletor a four year old voice can muster, that's worth a damn lot more to me than the thousands of dollars of collectibles in my collection room.

It often amazes (and truthfully disappoints) me how negative people can be over stuff that isn't aimed at them or blatantly cater to the collector crowd. Heck, the very first response pretty much sets the mood.

Yeah, little ones most likely won't see these online, but you know who will? Their parents and relatives looking to get the kids some nice introductory toys. Maybe if they can handle the more basic figures then they'll move on to the more advanced stuff and become part of the community.

Isn't that what we should want and encourage?

But nah, let's just keep being negative. For the kids.

I have this Megatron and truly enjoy it. The build quality is solid and it's just a fun figure. Is It meant to replace my ER Megaton on my shelf? Heck no, but that doesn't make it less fun.
