Good points, and thanks for the info. I didn't realize that the prices had doubled up north, and I haven't purchased anything mainline since... Well... it was either King Posidon or Siege something. Maybe a Generation Selects diaclone repaint. You get the idea. My point being that I didn't realize quality had taken a hit. That's not cool.

Also, about the last point - that's what I mean. I don't 'take it regardless'; nowadays if I think the figure looks subpar (say the offical Monsterbots), I'd just prefer to get the Fans Hobby versions becasuse I think they are better, regardless of price and even if they don't 'fit' with my collection because of scale or what not. Which is I guess is my contribution to the whole 'unpopular opinion' part of the thread.

Oh yeah.. by "take it regardless" I only meant that if anyone actually wants that figure/character, it may be the only version available so if a person wants that particular character, they'll suck it up and grab one.

Some older figures might be better, or fine, but impossible to get, or is fetching such crazy prices that it's cheaper to just get the new version instead.

But yes, quality with Hasbro keeps going up and down... from line to line, and many times, from within the lines. The Generation or RID lines for example, some figures were great plastic, excellent design, and in the wave mates you'd get a few that were much cheaper design and plastic. Siege is very few quality faults, very few breakage, ER definitely had more, and Kingdom has been even worse... if you follow the threads, you'd see that the number of figures with issues had increased, and the worst part is that it's all because of Hasbro cutting corners.

As you state, going for 3rd parties isn't for everyone either.. the character might not be available, it might just be much to expensive for many. I already mentioned that I do love the few 3rd parties I have, but I also was picky about them and limited myself to a certain pricing range for them... I tend to go with the approach that these being toys and made of plastic so I can't justify the pricing of some, heck I consider that for mass produced merchandise, most TFs are already overpriced.

I don't really think it's nitpicking when his arms and feet are just blatantly sticking out. A "Transformer" should at least attempt to hide its robot parts. I'm not buying Kingdom Galvatron because I don't like the shade of purple. Now that's a nitpick which I fully admit and accept.

Yeah I suppose for me it's more about the play factor than any sort of accuracy.

Idk if that’s a nitpick. Saying “I don’t like the design element of a certain figure so I won’t buy it” isn’t a nitpick imo. Saying “this figure is bad and shouldn’t have been made because I don’t like the shade of purple” would be a nitpick.

Complaining about "goddamn Bayverse designs" in Year of Our Lord 2021, as if they are a new and foreign invader rather than a major part of the franchise for a full third of its history, is extremely silly.

Yeah!! There are far better things to criticize in the bayverse movies than its accuracy to the rest of the franchise.

But if I don't complain about those horrible horrible bayverse designs that murdered my childhood how can I prove my superiority as a [insert other part of franchise probably G1 let's be honest] fan??

Well, you do have to consider the difference in the movie designs and the toy designs... and from what I've seen here, is that many might not like the movies but do appreciate the toys.

Movie versions are made of exposed gears, cables and such that throwing a screwdriver at them would be enough to destroy most of them. The toys on the other hand, have had some fantastic designs and some poor ones, just like any other line.

I've been picky to an extent, but the movie figures I have are absolutely great... The TLK Voyager class Megatron (the jet one) is one of the best TFs toys ever made and it's a downer that they didn't exploit that mold more... it's only reproach is the face that I wish it would have had the "helmet/faceplate" instead of the burnt monster face, or at least have it removable like the leader class one did.

No I don't, they've both been around for 14 years.

    Extremely true though

Not sure I understand.. I'm talking about what people bitch about. Many complain about either the on-screen design or the toy, and some just complain about both just because they see both as the same thing.

I get not liking the Movie designs.

But posting something like "LQQK leaked photo of the newest bot! *pic of a scrapyard*" is incredibly cringey.

I dunno. People also complain about the designs of TFP, TFA, BW, UT, etc. It's not like Bayverse is singled out. And just because something is a significant part of a franchise doesn't mean people can't dislike it.
