Yeah, I don't get all the fuss... All of them share a similar body build (gundam) with the exception of Landbull and the gorilla...

I really don't understand the people who can't enjoy anything but G1...

I'm a big G1 fan, but the reason I'm in this set is because in my mind, they're animals and they can look however they want, so to speak. I never owned any Predacon and this set is my first. I like how they updated the bot and beast modes. The Terrorcons could look similar and I would be all over them.

Yeah I like G1 too, but I am open to other interpretations of the characters even if they are loosely based on the source material (like Bayformers)

Agreed, to an extent. Some of the Bayformers went WAY overboard with their designs IMO. They looked good, but sometimes I was watching and thought: "WTF is this?" :lol

Agreed. I want these to look like the best versions of these characters as possible, if that involves artistic liberties, so be it. They are clearly derivative of the Predacons and therefore acceptable to my imagination.

It's also my opinion that the G1 animation designs or original G1 toys, are not the best versions of these characters that are possible.

If someone wants a Dreamwave design in a scale that goes with Toyworld Constructor, well, maybe ZetaToys will have you covered. I certainly recognize that there is definitely an audience there for that. Personally I want this to go with a Cang Toys Volcanicus and Dreamstar Superion projects.

I like G1, but some designs can range from lackluster to wholly ridiculous the closer you examine the details.

I dunno about anyone else, but I hopped on board with this team because they looked like they'd fit in really well with the MP scale T-Beast offerings so far. Some are unhappy with them looking too much like Zoids, but that's what got me to jump on board, really. To me, these guys fit in perfectly with PE Leonidas, PE Gorira, PE Doragon, DX9 Ancestrod, GT Gorilla and White Gorilla, GT Red Bull, TE Wasp Tiger, TT-H Red Falcon, etc. I just see these guys as an extension of that aesthetic, and for me, Razorclaw looks even more Zoids-like than everyone so far.

I'm with you, man haha. I like some cohesion in my team. Just for this particular combiner, I don't care so much about the individuals so long as Predaking looks good (I know you don't combine yours).

I'm 100 percent fine with the creative liberty. Heck, the only reason I got the 3 first figure is because Cang Toys is doing something cool and original and not trying to slavishly follow G1. I got a decent G1 Predaking in Feral Rex already. Give me something weird and cool and creative.

Silly putty. Weird cool and creative. In the old days that was the shit. And it wasn't gold!

It is just look like a transformable Zoid rising liger with this color scheme... you could do a lot better Cang Toys !

Gorillas aren\'t even predators. Neither are rhinos and buffalo.

Yeah, I was waiting for someone to lob a geewunner grenade. Perhaps it was intentional, or maybe you didn't mean for it to be inflammatory. Regardless, I think the comment really misses the point of the feedback.

The conversation doesn't necessarily fall along the lines of generational preference. My personal issue with the set isn't "not G1 enough"-- it's "not Transformers enough". I like stylistic interpretations of legacy characters, and despise strict adherence to the G1 cartoon. Landbull and Ferocious are hardly reproductions of the G1 characters. Homages, yes, but I wouldn't characterize them as G1-faithful interpretations. But the more recent entries give a very Zoids/Gundam vibe that not everyone is going to like. That distinction is worth pointing out, without being perceived as "G1 whining".

More importantly, there isn't aesthetic consistency within this set. If these had started out looking like Gundam or Zoids, then great. But to me, after the bull and the tiger, Firmament seemed like a curve ball, design-wise. I didn't buy him but figured, "ok, eagles have feathers, and they're getting all spikey with the design to reflect the feathers". Whatever, it's too gaudy and flashy for me. However, Kinglion feels more like an outright bait-and-switch. It doesn't surprise me that this one is polarizing to people, and it isn't because of a lack of G1 likeness. Some of us just think it's ugly.

Again, I'm not buying these for combined mode, but on a case-by-case basis. I passed on Firmament and will pass on Kinglion without much care. I surprisingly might actually splurge on the gorilla despite having a strong distaste for Optimus Primal. And I hope (because I liked the original Headstrong brick and think rhinoceroses are cool) that the rhino-bot is similar in style to Landbull. I do want this set to be a success, though, and I don't want the criticism to be mislabeled as G1-fan discontent.

That's why Razorclaw, Rampage and Divebomb make up the top half of Predaking.

Ha! That's an interesting argument that I've never heard before. Good thinking.

Razorclaw (and Decepticons in general) are big on hierarchies.

I legit don't get this comment.

Like Ferocious didn't look like Zoid?

    Didn't he though?

I think the set was always very Zoid inspired

I also honestly don't see the big break in aesthetic that Firmament supposedly represent either. Heck Even Landbull is very Zoid like. Mostly just missing a visor and a big missile pod on his back and he's a Cannon bull.

I mean, I don't know how much good design work costs in China these days, but why reinvent the wheel when you already have the 6 wheels that you can just design different transformation schemes into that suit your combiner needs to turn a quick buck?

If you can make them look cool enough to gain backers, then hey...great business. Provided the execution and QA holds up.
