I don't hate it. It just looks NOTHING like Razorclaw. Like, at least with each other Predacon I still recognized who they were. This just looks gaudy and overly stylized to the point that it looks generic. I'd like it along side a bunch of super robots but this will not be displayed next to other transformers anymore. I am still on board for the set. I just think this is the worst design; solely based on it looking like something I would have tried to draw when I was 12. It's the ultimate form of the protagonists mecha. "THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED!"
Though I might be less critical if it had more color break up. Majority gold is great but the forearms and shins need more black.

Guess I still need to pick up Tantrum and Dive bomb though.

Well, that explains the reason why he looks like a Gundam. That is defintely a a GN Drive on his chest there.

This is word-for-word my personal take on the set so far. I don't expect these to look like G1 designs or even match the colors-- they're stylized after all-- but what gets me is that they're looking so unlike Transformers. The shattered-glass Gundam look of Firmament and Kinglion simply don't suit my tastes at all, and all of the gold is just garish. No offense to those who like it, but these are polarizing designs and it doesn't surprise me that people are bailing out after what looked like a couple of nicely-executed figures initially. Fortunately I don't buy figures for combined mode anyway, so I'm just getting these a la carte.

Despite not liking gorilla alt modes, I feel like the "sixth member" of the team is shaping up nicely. I like the proportions and overall sculpt. It's almost as if Tantrum and Thorgorilla were penned by the same designer, and Firmament and Kinglion are the creations of a different person altogether.

Again, to each their own. I genuinely hope this set is a success, but I'm definitely passing on the lion just as I did the eagle.

This Razorclaw design sucks. I'm thinking of not completing the set now and cut my losses.

If I had a spare genie wish, I'd wish for the final member to be 100% extremely toon accurate, just to see everyone's reaction.

They started off strong with the big cat, the bull was even better, but then the bird took a very sharp design turn. The monkey sort of returns to the bull/cat design. And now we have a full blown Zoid/Gundam hybrid. Admittedly,
It does look cool by itself, but in context, it's just so bizarre.

This is all coming from a guy that's already sold off his 3 members a few months ago.

I liked this set, but there's several reasons unrelated to the design why I got out of it.

I think this "radical departure from the others" is pretty overblown.

The mane is spiky and he's carrying Predaking's big guns (didn't the G1 toy do that too)

But he's otherwise got the almost the same limbs and torso as Divebomb

The razor claw design is the shit! I’m getting rid of all my previous cang toys and order 6 of him and just build predaking out of him

I approve this Evil Voltron idea

In fact, I'll go a step further. An evil Voltron attacking Cybertronians would the basis of a crossover.

in the end I think the design is just too "loud" and the gold everything makes it that much louder. While you are correct on the design of the arms and legs being close to the rest of the group that design gets lost when they 3d'd the mane. They just went too far with it, I think if they had made the spikes shorter while at the same time adding more of them it wouldn't look so off.
I also think the figure is getting lost in the backpack and making the design much too busy, too many visual elements going on at the same time.

I think personally, be a bit more sparing with the gold... Say, mostly on the mane and a few armor bits. Toss in more black and red, and maybe all the spikes wouldn't seem as prominent.

All told, I am happier with this light redesign than I was with the earlier render, but I agree with what others have said.
I don't dislike the design, but it doesn't, to me, look like a part of a cohesive team.

I know a lot of folks feel that way about Firmament as well... I don't personally feel that way, although the shift to predominantly black on that figure may help to make it feel alien compared to his very red/yellow teammates.
My hope is that when we see proper color pics, it'll be a similar deal.
Not to diminish anyone who this just turns off.
    Just one fool's opinion.

One of the things I liked so much about predaking since he was first shown in the 80s was how much the colors complimented each other and devastator did that as well. The other combiner teams were mostly mixed up. When this team is combined I think it won't cohesively come together as far as color goes. Hopefully the Gorilla won't be pink

Trying to look at it objectively, I think the lion's head/mane is the primary detractor. I always felt like the original G1 mane looked somewhat like a shield, and therefore seemed fitting as an armoured chest piece for the robot. This mane design is larger and segmented into blades, dominating the chest, impeding articulation, and blocking the view of the head from any angle except for straight-on. I think if they integrated the mane into fewer panels and tightened up the radius so that the arms could move freely, it would clean up the robot presentation significantly-- even without making changes to the rest of the sculpt.

I also think that intricate surface detailing on the limbs is fine as long as the colors are not likewise so intricately applied. Tantrum and Ferocious have very nice surface details, but the colors are applied in sections that don't further contribute to a break-up of the sculpt. Firmament gets a little more complex with the color application, introducing more contrast into individual units of the body, and things start to look less cohesive. The color mock-ups of not-Razorclaw are even more "busy", which makes its broken-up sculpt look even more like a pile of shattered stained glass.

TL;DR: Simplify the sculpt of the mane and put fewer colors on limb sections, and Kinglion wouldn't look nearly so polarizing.
