Your hope was based on the rumored price of $250? Either way, that kind of aesthetic still seems beholden to licensed third party companies. And as far as I can tell Haslab items are meant to interact - stylistically and scale-wise - with existing collections (WFC and onwards in this case).

Yeah, that’s exactly what these look like. The fact that these two are going through Haslab shows that Hasbro isn’t sure how they’d do in retail (obviously). But the gaps, man... I think they really wanted to keep the price low here. I wonder if there even was an internal discussion on the need for hollowness; like, do we go for a collector-focused 'no gaps' price of $199.99 or do we aim for a budget-friendly price of $179.99 (complete with hollow spaces that the fans all know and love from the WFC trilogy)?

I think the prototypes look good, although I’ve gotta say that Saber & Leo don’t look all that flattering in the renders; which are what most people will be looking at. And I can't fault the people in this thread for saying these don't look all that great. There also doesn’t seem to be any extracurricular value proposition, other than the fact that these are the most fan-requested JG1 'couple', nor anything new or different. Myself, I would liked some more bells and wistles, something to show that this a little bit more special than 'you are getting the TF Victory leaders for your Generations collection!’. But I'll back this regardless, as I personally never cared for the somewhat plain and 'toon-but-not-toon-enough' look of the MP.

No, just based on my own tastes. I've fully accepted the aesthetic direction they've actually gone with, and it's certainly not out of place with other Generations releases.

Biggest issue is just the posing. Most of them just lack that full-committed "oomph" in their stances. The pose of Star Saber two-handing his sword actually makes him look pretty fantastic. But that exact same body looks pretty limp and awkward on the Victory Saber shots. I quite like the Victory Leo robot mode pose, as well.

    Oh brother.
I made a statement someone had an issue as is normally the case when it goes against their opinion and if you read what i said (not everything was sarcasm but you also were not involved in the discussion so...) then you would understand. If you don't understand and weren't involved why are you inserting yourself now? Or starting another "round about"?

Remember, this is a board based on feedback from a person about a figure....a figure. Not politics, not afghan, not life, not death, not taxes...a figure. Move on to another round about because this is hilariously too much lol.

    Dude, what?

I'm not "inserting myself in the middle of your conversation".

Your original post, that started your back-and-forth with samisham, emphasis mine:

And here's where you answered that little conundrum:

I'd hope for closer to the $250 mark personally, especially as Hasbro are getting a better cut of the proceeds through selling direct to consumers.
(But then again I am cheap....)

Yep. I first learned about Victory back in the mid 90s when the Transformers FAQ was A Thing and BW was the new series on the block and all I knew about it was what little the FAQ had until yeeeeeears later when anime subs became a thing. All that Japan exclusive G1 stuff was super niche for a good long while when Transformers themselves were already kind of a niche property to begin with, only becoming readily accessible long after the IP had come roaring back.

    Exactly.

That's why it's on Haslab. because of the character's obscurity, it's only hardcore Western fans and Japanese fans who are going to want it. Hence why isn't not a normal release because it won't get the numbers at retail to be worth making from the start. At least from Hasbro point of view.

Again I say oh brother. Too much investment into what the conversation was between myself and another on here. Way too much investment. What exactly was the point of you getting involved again? Bored? Need another round about? Don't bother responding, i am not going to see it. This is too much based on my opinion and one highlighted remark lol. There was a conversation happening based on two differing opinions. It all came down to is this an obscure release. That was the poibt of the conversation. Needless to say, who cares? The only thing to think about is why get involved when it was done between the two it involved? Who cares? It's more just a question for yourself to think about.

That was Takara only, the final LGEX before everything was merged and Generations Selects became a thing.

honestly, this is far more then needed for a discussion between two opinions. You get the last word man. Cheers

Ok no disrespect meant but shouldn’t we get back on topic and celebrate that we’re getting a Hasbro release of Star Saber/Victory Saber?! I’m hoping I can back him this time!

I think it's fair to say that a looooooooooot less people are willing to actively hunt down and half-watch half-read old TF anime, than just watch whichever show is airing at the minute.

I don’t think you do understand because this isn’t crowdfunding at all. HasLab is Hasbro saying,

“Hey everyone, we designed this really cool toy! We know that due to either it’s design, size, concept, or price that a lot of people are not going to want to buy this but we want to see how many will. If X amount of people will buy this then we are comfortable with the profit margins to produce that many but if we don’t hit X amount of orders then we feel it is not worth the trouble for us as a company.”

This also isn’t crowdfunding because a person cannot donate either below or above the price of the product so someone can’t just donate $5 to the production. Lastly, unlike fundraising sites such as Kickstarter this product will not be made available to the masses at a future date, this is it. With Kickstarter, I can go out and still buy Shovel Knight, watch the Veronica Mars movie, or purchase anything that has already been funded through the site. I can’t buy Unicron, Sentinel, or the Razor Crest now without paying astronomical second hand prices because there are only a limited amount of them that will ever exist in the world.

Fuck, now I really want to buy Galactus!

Personally, I don't feel like investing the time because, aside for the glitzy stock transformations and occasionally-stylish 80s anime animation, JG1 has a reputation for being... kinda boring.

I'm totally willing to buy Star Saber toys and back this project because I like his design and am a total sucker for Combiner-type play patterns, but nobody's ever convinced me that he's a super unique and compelling character or that his exploits are totally worth the watch.

If $180 can mess up one's credit, then maybe this isn't something one should consider buying in the first place.

I haven't seem Masterforce, but Victory is way better than Headmasters, because it's got way faster pacing. People talk about how dark Headmasters is with Cybertron being destroyed and Magnus dying and whatnot, but those are like ten episodes of characters standing around talking apart. Victory stuff at least happens often.
