Good luck with that, the market never really demanded that price. Maybe you could do what I couldn't.

Honestly, unless you have a toy business going on, it's pretty pointlesss to invest into this kind of thing. Sure you'll get extra money from selling it for high price but you have to wait for years for the price to spike again. Not to mention the brand is not dead yet, there's aways chance for the product to be re produce again. I usually surf local market to see if there's stuff I like, and I constantly see sellers with declusional price. Years later they have yet to sell their stuff, it's just my two cents.

Haha, thanks. Actually no, it wasn’t bad. Definitely more than the original cost but nowhere near the crazy inflated prices currently on eBay. No regrets! It’s a lovely figure and I’m super glad folks will get another shot at it.

That's good news for anyone who missed both of them on the first release.
Still, I hope they'll also release the continuum set on it's own as I don't feel the need for another Carnifex.

I think it depends on what you're trying to accomplish; a while ago I was able to get my hands on a Hot Toys Ghost Rider for €250 (I don't know if you're into Hot Toys, but that's dirt cheap), after a while I got bored of it and sold it for €400. The person who bought it gladly paid that for it, because thats still a good amount under market value. Then I used this money to buy other figures.

Every once in a while I look at one of my collections and sell part of it. And more often than not it's for more than I bought it.
My point being; if you're doing it to sustain/finance your hobby, I see no harm in it.

But I must agree with you, if one is trying to get rich this way. It ain't gonna happen, indeed for the reasons you so well pointed out.

Also, youngsters being able to put down $200 for a figure? Have times changed that much since I was young?

I don't disagree with you because you are selling off figures you initially bought to enjoy (even if that is to display misb and despite me thinking those people are crazy :p ), you never bought it to simply flip for a higher price. There is absolutely nothing wrong with selling old figures that have appreciated in value to whoever is willing to pay your asking price.

And hey man, when I was in college, I was going in on maketoys' devy and it was totally tight to fit that into my budget, but I could have never afforded much of any fanstoys stuff at the time(I don't even recall if they were even around much then as their price points had kept them off my radar for a long time).
Anyone starting their family either doesn't have 200-400 a month to spend on toys, especially if you live in expensive af Vancouver BC.

Apologies if I misinterpreted your earlier comments as being simply buying to scalp, I didn't think you said "investment" to simply mean that it is just another added bonus to buying the figure to enjoy.

No need to apologize, I understood that I needed to clarify what I meant.
It's also a way of an investment, just not the regular way

But make no mistake, every now and then I come across a 2nd hand figure for such a low price, that I simply buy it to make a profit out of it. And with it, take the risk that it may take weeks or months to sell it.

You where in college when Giant came out...
Ha! Way to go to make me feel old :)

Edit: I wholeheartedly agree with you on the Fanstoys part. Eventhough I'm not into them, the prices on the secondary market for those are really outrageous.

Buying transformers isn't so much an investment. It's more like a really inconvenient way of setting aside money...I know I could resell my collection and make all I've spent back+some more, but it would take a long damn time.

a long time, about 50 trips to the post office, 1 million PMs, 14 people that want it shipped for free, 13 that won't reply after three days, the occasional lost package, and the ever-favorite "i have nothing on your wants list but can't buy this right now please consider a trade for my old broken CHUG toys"

Super tempting to dip in on that reissue. It's such a great product. Doesn't fit with my collection but it's just genuinely a really good figure. (I had one from the first run a few years ago.)
