But are they idiots? Wong warned Strange but I don't think that's a setup to show Stephen is a fool. You might be falling for some misdirection and definitely a lack of other information (IMO). I also think it's an easy bet to make that something bad happens to someone in Peter's inner circle that will cause him to get desperate enough to do something like this. MJ is acting nonchalant about this in the teaser but I think that's also just misdirection. The more I think about it, the more grim this movie is starting to feel. I also suspect this will be a very dense film and I even wonder if this movie could end up in an Empire Strikes Back type cliffhanger. Having his ID revealed in the last movie was big but now you're actually seeing the repercussions. There's nothing in the press to suggest this movie will end in a cliffhanger but it certainly would be cool if it ended with the Sinister Six defeating the three Spidey's (killing one, crippling the other and leaving MCU Pete broken). Then the follow-up movie is basically the big Spidey-MCU-Team-up movie... I could also be completely wrong about everything I typed-- its just my speculation!
There is a likelihood Strange didn’t fuck the spell up at all. This could be “someone” else. Or rippling consequences from Loki. This is eons from a self-contained story.
To everyone saying how much an idiot Strange is here how much of the last 20+ movies could’ve been avoided if Tony thought things through?
how much of this could've been avoided if the eternals (or their creators? i can't remember who the end-grand-poobahs of marvel are) just didn't spring everything into existence?
They could do it much like Wong and Strange explain the Infinity Stones to Stark and Banner at the beginning of Infinity War - a little exposition dump early on to clarify the whole film, bringing new viewers up to speed.
It case anyone hasn't heard the 'SSU' (Sony's Spiderman Universe) has now replaced 'SPUMC' (seriously, who thought up that name?). Hmm, I guess I may start taking the new SSU movies a bit more seriously.... Oh, and it looks like I've already got the first three SSU movies, and I'm glad that Doc Oc seems to be back. (never got down to getting the Garfield movies, though) I'm also thinking, will the new Spiderman movie somehow redeem The Amazing Spiderman 2? One final thing I'm wondering is if Sony will use the SSU to sneak in a new version of Spiderman relatively unrelated to the MCU?
I personally loved the Electro bits, and found him to be a stronger and more compelling character than The Lizard previously. It's the hastily shoehorned Green Goblin bits that are really jarring. Plus that whole convoluted mess with his parents, but that was a plot thread also carried over from the first ASM.
Spoiler I'm not exactly expecting this movie to be well made going off of how terrible the most recent MCU entries have been, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy seeing Alfred Molina again, and if the leaks I read are true it's possible that this will at least be worth a watch if you're a hardcore Spider-Man fan. But chances are it'll just be an inferior 'Into the Spider-Verse'.
So just to be clear. Multiple timelines can exist in one singular MCU universe (EndGame) but there are multiple MCU universes with variants (Loki). NWH is obviously mutiple universe/Peter variants. Into the Spiderverse, which is different universe, can be explained like a MCU variants and What IF combo. Asking b/c I will need to explain to my wife and kids as Spiderverse get a lot of play in our house AND What If is out now, lol. Teaser looks great can't wait for full trailer.
For the sake of explaining it, there's no need to recognize a difference between a "timeline" and a "universe". Endgame didn't create multiple timelines/universes because Steve returned the stones and nothing ever branched. Spiderverse, What If, the Raimi Spider-movies are all just different universes where things happened differently to varying degrees.
I guess I can simply say in Spiderverse you get different Spidermans but in NWH we will get different Peters. Will be a bit confusing as a Peter does mess up Kingpin's machine and Strange's spell but with different results. No knocking either movie, I can roll with the logic. I just have to explain to adult/kids who never read comics and have only seen the movies. I thought there was a distinction between timeline and variant. Steve doesn't create another branch timeline but Loki is about multiverses (remember all the stones in the drawer, Loki variants, Kang's multiverse war). Don't forget, we will get Multiverse of Madness (variants?) and Quantumania(timelines?)!
It's probably too late now, but I would like a continuation of the Spider-Man vs Rhino fight from Amazing Spider-Man 2. That looks like a titanic battle, and seeing how Spidey won would be incredible.
There are people now who are convinced Dr. Strange isn't actually Dr. Strange. Someone else is impersonating him. The two they think are likely are or I think they may be over thinking things again, but we will see.
