I've been MIA from here for a while, so I hadn't seen your frustration with the Hot Rod, but I thought the same thing when he hit. I've had him for a while & I really like it all, but do wish he was more that shade instead. Not sure if I'll take a stab at that one, but maybe. But yes, annoying to get almost perfect representation of others, but they kept a more Rodimus Prime shade, instead of the Magenta that Hot Rod was before upgrading.

I just got one late last week, and wished that the color used for the painted "damage" was just the color of the figure entirely.

 

I sanded down the goatee just a bit, then sanded the left & right sides of the chin around it just a bit.

I used Kraken Blue from the D&D Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments Adventurers Paint Set (D&D War Paints). I have a shot uploaded of the front & back of the box set to help others who want to use this same shade.

Same here. Nimoy nailed the perfect voice for the character originally & Welker nailed the crazed Galvatron, post plasma bath.

Thanks! I noticed that too. That shade would've been better also. I know it's personal preference & that there were at least 4, if not 5, different shades of blue/purple shown between the '86 movie, G1 Season 3, Rebirth, & Japanese Headmasters. This one fit the best to me & gave that '86 movie vibe.

 

How much of him did you disassemble, especially to paint the shoulder hinges?

 

I masked off a lot of what i had shown before. I didn't disassemble the shoulder hinges since I really started this to test the right color I wanted. I shelved it for a while after first showing this off, but hoping to do more on it soon. I added some custom 3D printed heads from here to make it that much better. Just haven't had a lot of time with work & my kids......being kids.  

 

This is great. Seeing how hasbro release the three pack of Megs, Soundwave and Shockwave i would hope they would sell Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scrouge as a pack and repaint them more closely to be all the same shade so they look more like they go together.
