Sorry for my confusion but what part of my post is that responding to exactly?

Oh my what loveliness is that? :O

If we go off BB as shown, they cut out all the scenes that explicitly connected it to Bayverse, and at some point Hasbro have definitely referred to it as a reboot but other times they've muddied the waters like a comment about seeing how Optimus becomes the leader he was in the Bayformers movies. And as I said previously, the Bay films messed around somewhat about when bots arrived on Earth so I really don't think it'd be an issue.

Pretty sure they have said it somewhere.

A lot of good points. Especially about male as default. To be honest, as a lesbian woman I find the idea that you can only have female members of a race or romantic interactions if the race reproduces sexually extremely insulting. We see Transformers form friendships, why shouldn't they be able to form more intimate connections? One of the things I find fascinating about Transformers fiction especially IDW 1.0 was exploring just what gender and relationships mean when it is entirely divorced from the need to reproduce. Realistically speaking Transformings seem to be Asexual as they literally do not sexually reproduce so their relationships are entirely of the romantic variety.
As for mamary glands, Arcee doesn't have 'em. Very few fembots have actual defined breasts though there are some exceptions such as Thunderblast and (sometimes) Windblade. More often they look like a woman wearing clothes over breasts. Arcee is a particulary odd example to use as her 'breasts' in her G1 design is the front of her car mode, no different to Prowl or any number of male coded carbots, many of them have far bigger chests :p
Yes she has a more feminine shape but that is down to design cues for readability by us humans. Much like how Optimus has an admittedly more abstracted superhero physique with a big chest and broad shoulders, or Bumblebee is a lot of round shapes and friendly looking.

There's also numerous ways to approach the whole 'coded as' thing. Like sure if we take the approach of Transformers as truly genderless - not an approach that has ever IMO come across in TF Fiction I must say - we see in TF fiction Transformers imprinting behaviours from humans and presumably other races they encounter. So there's no reason some might not imprint more masculine behaviour or others more feminine, or imprinting behaviours more commonly associated with a particular ethnic group - such as Jazz. Copying behaviours from other races is (one of) the ways female Transformers were handled in IDW for example.

Also, I've never been a fan of the Quint origin, I'll be honest, I find it far more fascinating the idea that metal based lifeforms could evolve/be created by Primus or whoever (so I suppose my issue is more with them being created as property but that's a whole other thing) as afterall, what are humans but extremely complex machinary of flesh and blood? But even with the Quint origin. I see no reason why after the rebellion, the other TFs would stop making female coded bots. That comes across as "Oh female bots only need to exist for le sexy times"
I will admit though that @Insurgent 's suggestion does certainly work well with what is presented in the G1 cartoon.

Ultimately however, I'm not trying to tread on anyone's headcanon or whatever. Just thought I'd share my own. :)

I misread that as beast mode and got very confused :lol

Screamer's head on Thrust looks pretty good!

Thank you all greatly... My missus will not be impressed over the next few nights!

God I feel knackered. Played 90 minutes of footy today on a full 11 a side pitch. I feel broken. My fitness was/is not ready for this.

Very shiny. Also Thrust looks great with an OG seeker head on him.

If there is one thing IDW 1.0 did best it was addressing relationships and gender.
But the mention of robo-bewbs and not even a passing mention of Prime's chest? :O Shocking!

Never been a fan of the quint origin myself, or the idea that the Decepticons are their own 'race' and a 'bad' race and the Autobots a 'good' one. Robs them of choice doesn't it?

Phew glad someone else feels the same way.

I still love how a completely new and revolutionary toiletry system becomes the defacto standard within a couple of decades.

Actually I kinda loved that about everything in the film.

Only thing I feel could have been changed would be for every time referenced in the movie to have been doubled. E.g. the start when they have cryogenics in like 1996 could have at least been like now? And then they're frozen for like 50-60years past that...

Can we have a conversation about how enjoying media as a “Grown Up” seems to orbit precisely around the “do I want to bang it” singularity?

I only recently read MTMTE and I adored the dynamic of “We live for millennia and I would like to spend that millennia in YOUR presence exclusively” for Cyclonus/ Tailgate, Chromedome/Rewind and of course Anode and Lug. It wasn’t a gender issue, except for Anode saying: “I feel better like this, so this is how I am now.” But it was a love thing and I found it beautiful.

All media is reflective, it has to be. And the presence of this kind of representation is so important. Canon and logic be damned, the Transformers reflect us and they always will, but how awesome is it to be able to explore who we are and who the people around us are, in these insane robots?

At the time they thought we were so far up a creek, culturally speaking that those time frames made kind of sense.

Love the movie, so very 90s in its execution!

Maybe Mirage dies in the new movie, and Jazz has to be alive to die in the first movie.

I was thinking new bots in general stopped veing made, not just females, as without the Quints, they didn't have the proper knowledge to make them. The matrix was taken by alpha trion and the key to vector sigma was hidden with alpha trion. And vector sigma itself was hidden in an underground labyrinth. And the plasma chamber to forge the bodies was locked away with a key. So maybe with the matrix, some new characters could be created but still many, many were lost in the past 3 great wars, or evacuated the planet to setup colonies like paradron and antilla, once megatron came online and killed sentinel, causing the matrix to be hidden, no more new transformers were born and the war caused a very rapid decline in population numbers.

Not really. People can still disagree with what members of their race are doing and decide to fight against it. And at least its different to political underclass tries to change the politics of his planet and lets things get out of hand which has been every. Single. Backstory. Since 2005. Ans first appeared in 1996 with it being bw megs motivation. Change it up every now and then folks!

I keep forgetting that you civilians don't know we've had cryogenics since '89. Easy mistake to make, the majority of the cryofacilities are on the moon being watched over by an army of genetically modified soldiers that went rogue. We still aren't sure how to bring them back under our control. If only there were one badass soldier who could take them all on at once...

Yeah, there's a few mid-to-latter-period Hanna Barbera shows where the mixed humans & talking animals casts are rather more disconcerting, Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Snagglepuss, and Top Cat are kinda in an appropriate hierarchy context, they're sentient but still animals in the grand scheme of things, where Penry is a talking dog with a job? And a human love interest in Proto-Pixar Milf, Rosemary the Telephone Operator?
He's clearly a bit Blaxploitation-inspired but they couldn't have a human coded black character be the star? And the character is kinda doubly Cultural appropriating? Much Yikes!

Gotta say I do still enjoy the show, the Filing cabinet quick-change bit never gets old, nor Spot being the real brains a la Gromit/Brain from Inspector Gadget, and the fact that his Kung Fu skills are based on the correspondence course Hong Kong Book Of Kung Fu.

A little less problematic but still off is Secret Squirrel, and, while I have to admit I didn't like the change at first, the 2 Stupid Dogs Secret Squirrel reboot of it being a wholly animal cast really did work better in the end up.

Indeed! Though of course, Lug and Anode's gender was a separate thing to their love for each other. I kind of wish IDW had at some point explained what caused Cybertron to stop having female forged bots, as we see with the colonies they still had female bots forged into female bodies from the off, as opposed to Lug and Anode who are fantastically accurately written as trans and we know from what they say that there were others like them who had similar experiences on returning to Cybertron after serving in the Primal Vanguard.

Oooh, nice. I like the Wheeljack mold ^^ look forward to the pics!

Ah I see. I must admit I am very ignorant of the G1 cartoon canon ^^'

And agreed on Megs. I'd still love them to do a subversion where he's just a power hungry tyrant who coopted the whole oppressed underclass thing as a path to power and doesn't believe a word of it.
Or just a good old fashioned military coop!

Also can't deal with they're different 'races' thing cos races aren't real anyway and so defining them becomes confusing at best. I have my own personal head canon to resolve this, but can't share in case someone points out obvious plot holes. This shit is about 25 years in the making and I'm not risking it!

I know what you mean about changing it up. I'm reading the armada comic. The autobots are basically a super hero team amongst a largely unaffiliated civilian cybertron. The decepticons are villains with a villainous plan for World domination. Refreshingly different even though its simple.

My theory was that functionism was also wildy misogynistic - so ... something terrible happened in the past to Cybertron's female population. And nobody remembers them because of mass shadowplay?

Ooh maybe. Sentinel might have been involved too. When he came back he referred to 'malformed colonists' and I think they were showing female colonists at the time. Hmmm
