Agreed... The cannon mode is on the xtb looks promising... I think it'll all depend on the paint

 

I’m waiting for someone to do either a soft reboot or a continuation of G1 and it’ll all be about Windblade. All the Geewunners will cry about how their childhoods are ruined and I’ll be able to pick up all the Transformers I want for pennies on the dollar.

Yeah, I don't want to shit all over the XTB thread, I think they can beat FT in sculpt sometimes but that Galvatron looks so silly to me. Like I don't know what people are seeing in it. It'll be great in cannon mode but I just giggle everytime I see him the robot mode and I can't really explain what it is.

 

I think it’s the super cartoony faces. They don’t look right to me. He has like SpongeBob expressions. Maybe not exactly like SpongeBob but that kind of animation.

That robot mode and face sculpt on Abbadon are just not doing it for me. Maybe I’ll feel differently about it when it actually comes out. I know the cannon mode will kill Sovereign’s pretty uninspired alt mode, but that robot mode....nope. Sovereign’s bot mode is just spot on.

 

XTB Abaddon looks like the poorly animated version of Galvatron from some S3 episodes. FT Sovereign is a high end collectible with premium finish that looks like Galvatron from the Movie and the better animated S3 scenes. - If I had an all toon Legends collection, a smaller version of Abaddon would probably be my first choice. But Sovereign is still the best option for my MP collection and I'm more than happy with him.

 

Needs more purple!

 

Fanstoys Galvatron looks like a high-end collectable. Xtransbots Galvatron looks like something you can win at a county fair. To clarify: I have no desire for any of the 86 movie cast in my collection (I am one of those season 1 and 2 only Geewunners), so I won't be buying either, but if I had too... Fanstoys would be it.

 

What are you talking about? Sovereign has a very inspirational alt mode, it’s trying to motivate me to do push-ups and planks. I am the one failing Sovereign.

Definitely get what you two mean. I personally still like Abaddon a lot, not mainly for the looks but moreso everything else, though I still think he looks good. Albeit there definitely is room for improvement.

The one category that XTB gets an absolute win from me on though are the extra faces, they look like money, except for what is supposed to be the terrified face. The eyes don't look as fearful as I personally would like (see below for a quick edit).



Also the cannon needs to be a bit less shapely. I'd rather his carrot look more like a carrot than a yam with how stocky and short it is by comparison, hahaha.

We’re not threatened or just tearing Abaddon apart. That’s one of the reasons I jumped into the Sovereign thread instead, not to sound insulting or raining on XTB’s parade. I objectively have aspects to Abaddon that I don’t like as I do in Sovereign.

From what I have read and wrote, we have been respectfully comparing and contrast aspects which we like/dislike thus far in the design process.

 

Totally agree. Sovreign looks better to me in bot mode, but the XTB alt mode is clean. I might buy it just for that if the materials and build are good.

 

I was feeling the same. Had to draw over to figure out why. A lot of it has to do with the proportions plus some subtle design choices. The head sits really far forward. The other big issue is how small the feet look and leg proportions. It would help if they lengthen the lower legs. Anyhow just some thoughts…

 

If I want a good looking cannon mode, I can just go with DX9's.

 

Nah I just think a lot of people here seem to be way too confident in comparing a finished released painted figure to an unpainted grey prototype.

 

That "angry" face on Abaddon looks like he's sitting on the toilet trying to push out energon cubes.

 

Gonna be hard to fix proportions with paint though! But if it’s turns out great, I’ll grab it. I just want the best display piece, whoever makes it.
