Sphynx really hasn't aged well imo. Those pics made me remember how frustrating his feet were too.

It's funny how there's a clear aesthetically design between Hasui and Koboyashi onwards and how 3p have mimicked it. I guess it's obvious really if they want to follow the trend but still. This comparison really highlights it.

TE. By a country mile.

It's cleaner, sleeker and more stable. Doesn't have any little irritations like the neck joint sitting too low or the feet making him a bugger to stand naturally or the shoulder cannon being too close to the head. Was never a fan of Sphynx's forearms either, seemed way over engineered and (in the cell version moreso than the original) always came apart when posing.

Tbf my Cell Sphynx was a bit of a lemon tho so my memories aren't fond. Not as good around as the original release I had. I did get 2 parachutes out of it tho so it wasn't all bad.

 

Maybe i overlooked mention of it in the thread here, but Toyhax now lists a label set for Speed Star for those wanting to "de-toon" him a bit (Hah!)

I almost pulled the trigger and bought TE Mirage. But then I watched a video review and was reminded about the number of untapped areas, loose feet, and hip problems. Making me rethink

 

I still like Sphinx. Though speed star has the look, Sphinx has that toy-version look to him and only in this case I'd take that over SS. They both have a place in my collection though.  

 

The hip problem was a v1 problem and was easy as shit to fix. My v1 had the backwards hips and it was fixed easily but that shouldn't be an issue needing to be dealt with anymore. V2 had an odd paint issue where some ankles were green because they were likely unpainted before being installed. Never heard about loose feet and mine are not. So if that's what's holding you back I don't see why.

 

Thanks for posting since that makes the figure far more appealing to me. Have been hoping TE would release a more toy based version -- shade of blue, different head -- but this might also do.

 

Oh snap, I was wondering if they'd ever make a set. I'm a toon guy all day long, but I think I'll need to pick this up just for the Citanes sticker.

This photo convinced me to buy him. I had the MMC one, but was never 100% satisfied and sold it awhile back. Excited to add him to my collection.

 

I finally bit the bullet and got this guy, but alas, he has a green ankle.
Did any of you have any issues getting a replacement from ShowZ?

 

Only problem for me was really with time. Got a replacement smiling faceplate from them since mine came with pretty much half the paint somehow seared off of it, and it took I wanna say a month, due to both waiting for factory correspondence on their end and shipment from China to the US.

 

I really wish they would release this guy in a darker blue, then he'd be perfect. Has there been any talk of this happening?

refresh my memory...so this guy has had 2 or 3 releases? I can't seem to tell. V1 we will call "hips are probably backwards". V2 was fixed hips but might have green ankle. Run 3 was the same as V2 or am i getting that wrong? might want to pick up an extra but supply seems to be running low. any chance for another reissue?

 

I don't know if there's an actual difference between the releases, just that the QC is better/worse/different between the batches. I feel that at this point buying anyone of them is kind of a roll of the dice in the QC issues that you may face - maybe try and find a retailer who will take it back if there's something wrong with the one that you get?

 

I got this guy yesterday. Fantastic figure! Aesthetically, he blows Sphinx out of the water as a 'bot, and the quality and heaviness of him is on par with Fans Toys. But evolution and improvement is the name of the game and I'm thankful we had that other version for a couple of years to tide us over. Maybe someone can do an even better version later, but I really dig this guy.

 

I took the gamble, will report back when he comes in.

 

I ordered one of those 38 dollar (USD) ones from taobao last week. Was listed as reprinted and repaired version. Whatever that means. Repaired hip? repaired paint? recycled return, haha. Will be interesting to see what arrives.
