It leaves me a lot of questions. How does Hot Rod's crew know where to find everyone else on the Planet of Junk? What is Galvatron's crew using to track everyone else down over and over? Why does it take Unicron like 40 minutes of screen time to threaten Cybertron after eating its two moons that are in orbit around it? Is Blaster the only character on Earth that can send interplanetary radio comms? Why does Megatron think he can have Soundwave send Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, and Ratbat to jam a transmission after he hears it being sent? Earth is clearly quite well-developed, so where is any sort of human response to the day-long Battle for Autobot City? What have the Quintessons been doing for several million years and why didn't they capitalize on the dilapidated state of Cybertron, bereft of both its liberators and its defenders? What is Cybertron made out of, if the Quintessons "built" it? Who built the Quintessons? What did Unicron do for the previous several billion years of the lifespan of the Universe, such that he was known to the people of Lithone on sight, yet they lived very carefree lives up until they were suddenly and helplessly grinded into reactor fuel by him?

Also, I humbly request that we not get this thread locked, as I'm having fun with it. Would PMs not be a suitable place for personal disputes?

Charlie parents were not less dumb and less cringe than Sam's parents, they were to the point of being more. Her step dad, he didn't have a single serious scene in that movie, even in front of the ugly shit that was happening. Even Sam's parents got serious when the shit was ugly, like in rotf in the desert. The boy in that movie wasn't serious in most moments, he was straight comic relief. I can't bring a movie serious when most characters are comic reliefs, and it's my problem with tf1 and rotf too

Leo was f*cking annoying. Worse than the twins, worse than Dickbot... I'd go so far as to say he's the most obnoxious character in the whole saga.

How did we get to page 6 before someone remembered to shit on Leo? Good save, BWF!

Opinion: All of the TF movies could have been just as impactful with just as high of stakes without gratuitous murders like Cliffjumper in BBM and the random humans getting turned into snot in the other movies. Those scenes make these movies tougher for kids to enjoy and don't add much for the adults. The Decepticons were never really like that. Even when Dr. Alcazar directly defies Megatron's order to hand over the Antimatter formula in G1, his response is "Let this human go. We seek another!"

Granted, he tries to blow up the planet multiple times, but still.

    Thanks!

I wished we got to see more honorable Decepticons, or hell even autobots. I agree that some of the death scenes were just gratuitous. A problem in the IDW comics as well (What Tarantulus did to Roadbuster was just needlessly gruesome). Ravage's death felt like something from a snuff film, a slow-mo of Bumblebee basically de-spine-ing him. That's DOOM Guy levels of butchering.

Glenn? (Gwen?) Yeah he was annoying and felt like he'd be better in a comedy, but at least he's not dragged along for most of the plot and actually contributed to it.

Which reminds me, what ever happened to him and Maggie?

Sorry, I got confused, I mentioned how the comics had started getting needlessly gory, and you posted some examples.

Oh, crap. I had typed an explanation but I chopped it out when I was rearranging the pictures and I guess I forgot to put it back in.

It was something like, yeah IDW was drawn by psychopaths and the BW cartoon has its moments, too!

So, I don't know if these are controversial or not, and some have been listed already, but they're still mine:

    1. The 2007 movie, ROTF and Bumblebee are all way better than the 1986 movie.

    2. I liked a lot of the human characters. Sam had a fairly good character arc in 2007. Mikaela was made of win. Simmons was awesome. I liked Lennox and Epps, loved Charlie and others. Some were annoying, like Leo. I wouldn't have minded if he had gotten splatted. ;p

    3. I fucking cheered when Optimus Prime killed the Fallen and Megatron. the former betrayed his fellow Primes and was trying to blow up Earth. The latter started the ENTIRE FUCKING WAR! And Megatron's offer of 'truce' was so full of shit his optic sensors might as well have been brown.

    4. Leo from ROTF was annoying. Not the most annoying, but still down there.

    5. Epps' reaction to Scorponok was one of the best 'first reactions' to a Transformer I've ever seen. "Unknown I-man, if you seen this SHIT!" :D  I fucking love it.

    6. I like a lot of the designs.

Every major human character not named "Witwicky " from the 07 movie is great.

Simmons was good in 07 but made into too much of a joke in the later movies so my statement only applies to them in that one movie.

Shockwave's DotM design is one of the best looks for the character.

I fully agree that the movieverse should have been it's own thing with it's own names.

I put the movie Transformers characters into 4 buckets:

Clearly resemble a previous bearer(s) of the name in appearance AND personality/story role:
    - Optimus Prime
    - Bumblebee
    - Jazz
    - Megatron
    - Soundwave
    - Ravage
    - Laserbeak
    - Shockwave
    - Lockdown

Resemble a previous bearer(s) of the name in personality/story role:
    - Ironhide
    - Ratchet
    - Arcee (sort of)
    - Jetfire
    - Wheeljack/Que
    - Drift
    - Starscream
    - Constructicons / Devastator
    - The Fallen
    - Sentinel Prime (this is an interesting case because the character's concept is clearly based on the original Sentinel Prime but his ultimate role goes in a very different direction, not that the original character ever did much)

Vaguely similar to a previous bearer of the name:
    - Brawl
    - Scorponok
    - Frenzy
    - Sideswipe
    - Wheelie
    - The Wreckers
    - Hound

Brand new character that may use an existing name:
    - Blackout
    - Barricade
    - Bonecrusher
    - Jolt
    - Skids and Mudflap
    - Brains
    - Dino (another tricky case because of course, we do know he was based on G1 Mirage but the final character bears essentially zero resemblance)
    - Crosshairs
    - Most others

I think this fairly distributes where our movie cast ends up in terms of basis on a previous (usually G1) version. I do think the movies struck a decent balance between characters clearly based on a franchise character, in terms of appearance and/or story role, and brand new additions, which are always welcome.

The one I have trouble placing is Hot Rod, because I have no idea what's going on with him. He's basically a new character, but the Hot Rod name really can't be used willy-nilly like that...

I watched Romeo Must Die the other day and it is so weird seeing him try to act like a gangster. As annoying as he could be, I think Anderson carried himself much better as computer hacker than he did as some gangland heavy who thought he was getting one over on Jet Li.
