Studio series 1986 coronation starscream is such a cash grab.

I won't be buying the figure but I think it's fine as it is. It's an iconic look for one of the most iconic characters of the brand. It's not a brand new mold, it's a few add-on parts. If you really want this version of Starscream you'll buy it, even if you already had the base Earthrise Starscream. And if you don't want to, you're fine sticking with that version. Opening hands are not enough of a change on their own (also, the weird justification of removing paint apps for the sake of cartoon accuracy... but whatever).

The fact that it's not a new mold is what makes it fine. They basically perfected G1 Starscream the last go-around, why mess with that? This being a retool means it didn't "steal" a spot from a brand new mold.

This would be a cool redeco (greyed out)

I might customize it, since I already have the clean ER version.

All the other Studio 86 looks pretty good, but for some reason Starscream, Slag, and Grimlock are greebled to hell and look like they belong in WFC.

I disintegrating/charred version with a crushed helmet would be cool.

Who is to say they won't release that eventuallyt? I certainly wouldn't bet against it.

This may be a joke but I haven't gotten Kingdom Rodimus because I'm waiting for a version that has the cartoon face. So I hope they make an SS86 commander or strip down leader Rodimus.

About Starscream, I now have the option of getting a second Starscream with extra bits and use either to custom paint it to make the other seekers or even G2 Starscream!

Obviously not. If those parts did cost $20 to produce, Hasbro would have to charge even more for SS Screamer so they make a profit.

What if- and stay with me here- you don’t have to be in to every single thing they release? What if, rather than rageposting and calling people you’ve never met “lazy,” you just said “oh this isn’t for me and that’s ok” and didn’t buy it?

A 3P company can't be compared to Hasbro, because Hasbro is a massive company with all the connections to make their products as cheap to produce and ship as possible. If it costs a 3rd party company $20 to produce the coronation gear and a throne, it costs Hasbro about $5.

If the throne repack was a Starscream Repaint like this, I wouldn't be nearly as salty. That it's just a repack is the pits for those that already own the mold.

I think you're all missing that it's a small handful of parts that costs almost as much as the hundred parts that went into the base figure. This is all part of the shifting narrative of what costs what. We've more recently been told that price points aren't a size class as they're controlled by parts count rather than physical dimensions. So now we got ten parts and it costs as much as a hundred because reasons? At the end of the day, the Hasbro Said is like the ten commandments, not to be questioned or else because Argument From Authority.

What if- and stay with me here- you don’t have to defend every single thing they release? What if, rather than white knighting and calling people you’ve never met “entitled,” you just said “oh this isn’t super duper awesome to everyone and that’s ok” and didn’t defend it?

I mean, you’re being insulting by making the assumptions that defending Hasbro means (a) the person is incapable of being critical of Hasbro and (b) the person has some psychological need to defend a multinational corporation.

Is it really necessary to preface all of our opinions by saying: “I recognize that Hasbro has no personal investment in me and is purely profit driven.” We’re adults, we know this and we can share our opinions without doing that— even if they are “pro-Hasbro” opinions.

Maybe deconstruct the opinions instead of the poster.

I'm just ad-libbing a post that was already insulting.

What really bothers me is the shifting narrative on prices. It's like they've got a big wheel somewhere with the various reasons on it. Parts count! Plastic volume! Physical dimensions! Paint apps! Packaging! Oil shortage! Oil surplus! Lost molds! Piracy! May as well save the effort and go straight to "shut up, pay me."

Saying this as somebody who might buy it only because I skipped the initial release. I would've liked to see them put the effort into landing gear. As-is, it's another Earthrise mold that was close but suffers from corner cutting. More reasons to stay out of jet mode, like the accessories in this release, help cover that up.

Personally, I think the extra parts should only raise the price $5-10, rather than 20, but do you really think Hasbro will pass up an excuse to sell a Voyager as a Leader? I'm not saying an additional $20 is reasonable, just that it makes sense for the set to cost more, since there's more to it. But why charge a little more when you can overcharge by a lot? I wasn't impressed enough with the ER Seekers mold to get Starscream in the first place; I'm certainly not buying it at Leader price!

Hell, I'm still annoyed that Hasbro charged Voyager price for a small Deluxe with a few largely unnecessary accessories.

    A. You don't have to buy it (The tried and true point)

    B. Every seeker is a cash grab, every datsun is a cash grab, the selects line is a cash grab, like someone above said, that's the name of the toy game.

That's you moving the goalposts. Any person seeing this from the outside in is still going to see the 3P costing a lot more.

You act like Earthrise Starscream itself wasn't that.
