I think Feralstorm already did this but I'm not sure because he didn't really explain what he did so...

    I hate the red-head.

Luckily it comes off pretty easily, and split in half.

    And after a little paint...

I realize my paint isn't the smoothest, but now you know that it can be done.

And for me this is a huge improvement.

Masterpiece Grimlock is actually the Grimlock I have (Hasbro TRU Generations version), so now I know how Slag looks next to him and I’m still definitely excited to get him!

This is a very strange thing to focus on but I really like how the paint looks on his dino mode eyes. The way they're sculpted and angled seems to always catch light in just the right way that they almost look like translucent plastic with a shiny undercoat.

I got this guy from GameStop today. I like him. The first thing that hit me is the size…somehow I wasn’t prepared for how large he is (despite all the online pics and already owning Grimlock). He’s a chunk! I’m really looking forward to the rest of the team. My only gripes are that the backpack doesn’t tab in all that securely, one of the hip fore/aft rotation ratchets is kinda soft and Daniel sucks. Overall he’s a big win, though. I wonder if Snarl, Sludge and Swoop will come with sidekicks? Has it been mentioned anywhere?

Here's the robot (& citrus fruit) mode version of my earlier comparison post.

Since it was mentioned, I did take apart SS86 Slug for painting. The robot head is glued together, so you need an x-acto blade or something to slip between the halves and lever them apart. The upper legs are screwed together and come apart pretty easily, but watch out and try not to lose the tiny piece for the ratcheting knee joint. Those parts are interchangeable between SS86 Slag and Grimlock, by the way.

Man I really want this guy. I currently dropped most Mainline G1 to focus on BW. Slag is one of the few G1 bots that is on my pick up list.

Finally got around to transforming mine. It's so close to perfect. So close.

It loses major points because I noticed that on mine, the faux chest won't push all the way up in dino mode.

I've tried numerous times to re-transform it, making sure everything was lined up right. No matter what I do, it never goes into place and always pops back out.

Anyone else have this problem? It's extremely frustrating to say the very least:

Picked this guy up quite randomly. I missed the preorder window at EB Games but happened to find him there anyway so that was nice.

Gotta say, maybe I'm just lucky, but my version has no issues. Nothing pops off, everything tabs right, the faux jaw panel is flush and the tail area all pegs clean and sturdy. He's big, solid, and chunky. Him and Grimlock really feel like bygone Leaders in terms of size and solidity. Only real downside is Daniel. Maybe if he had knees he wouldn't feel like such a useless accessory, but unlike Wheelie I don't even "get" the purpose of him sitting on Slag. Wheelie rode Grimlock prominently and had pretty memorable moments in the film, but did Daniel ever ride Slag? I don't recall them being much of a pair. Making him a permanent rider just feels like a waste because it's not much of a sensible display option.

Ah well, at least Slag is awesome. Can't wait for Sludge.

I just transformed mine and that joint is really tight. I’m pretty sure you just don’t have those shoulders fully compacted. Mine was like yours but it does get closer and will then lock in nicely.

My issue is that one of my hip ratchets seems to work in only one direction. Quite odd.

Also, he’s good but that backpack IS really fiddly and he’s less fun for it. IMHO.

The backpack tabs in quite firmly, reducing the fiddliness.
The circled part on the gray piece snaps into the circled part on the red piece.

Mine has a tiny bit of trouble standing straight. He seems back heavy and his knees have too much play before the first ratchet.

Other than that, this is a fantastic design for the ol' iron potato. The shapes and proportions are quite good in both modes.

Pretty much my feelings to a tee.

Also, after handling 2 of these I wouldn’t be surprised if a large percentage had questionable hip ratchets. Luckily they aren’t really necessary.

Absolutely gorgeous. I really hope the other Dinobots get this treatment (I know Sludge has been teased, at least...).

I pretty much gave up on any chance finding this big lug in the wild. Oh well...

to those who got it though, congrats. :)

If your luck at finding figures in-person is as awful as mine, do like I’m gonna do when I finally get a job and turn to online shopping.

I'm on the fence about getting him. On the one hand, I like my combiner wars one and he strangely looks cheap to me and a couple folk I showed him too but at the same time I do love Dinobots
