So far their excuse for the cost has been “but it’s HaNd PaInTeD.”

 

This looks like one of those things that could work as one of those cheezy 50-80 dollar sets, but for 600 for-fucking-get it.

I'm not enough of a chess player anyway (as in, I know HOW to play chess, but am terrible at thinking more than 1.5 moves ahead). I think the community might be better served by a TF-themed "Battle Chess" computer game.  

 

I would love a normal priced chess set like this. Looks awesome, just costs too much.

I got in on the Kickstater but definitely cant afford the 6 bills for it.
First saw it on Thew's newest video.
So just put in for 10 bucks and the pin; hopefully this goes well though.
I would love to see this completed with a good photo session of everything once in the physical.

 

Looks phenomenal. The book that comes with it sounds lovely, too. I understand the price given the scale and quality, but it’s still a tough sell. On the fence for now

Also I think you’re missing his point. It’s not that you can literally duplicate this set with mainline figures, it’s that the price is nearly comparable to the same number of mainline toys, only mainline toys better painted, articulated, and can transform.

I mean, let’s be generous and say each chess piece is worth $10. That’s only just over half the total cost spoken for. The board certainly isn’t $280, so the pieces cost even more than $10 each. For what they look like and the quality on display, that’s absurd.

Does anyone remember the DC Comics Chess pieces put out by Eaglemoss? How did the prices match up and what was the quality?

About the same price, but those pieces look far more premium than the TF ones.

 

If you match the scale this is set at to current figures based on who is listed. The cost at retail for all of those characters would be 955 before taxes not counting shipping/gas cost either. It’s fine if you have zero interest and this won’t need but a few hundred people to fund it, let people enjoy what they like.

 

Also regarding the price. The whole standard set is 600, this is better than doing it as a sub where it would take two years complete. Not to mention the board is one square foot.

See that looks like a premium chess set. The painting on the pieces is crisp and the overall design is appealing. Even the sculpts look fantastic and the poses are expressive and characterful. The TF pieces look flat and lifeless by comparison.

Also one thing I never noticed, but for being cast from metal resin, Prime's rifle sure looks like warped plastic. :/

Nobody's stopping anybody from liking anything, just pointing out the outrageous price.

TBH Pawns are only strong with good pawn structure. Isolated pawns, Doubled pawns, and other conditions that open up holes in pawn structure exponentially increase the danger and decrease the power of a pawn. Isolated pawns in particular are practically useless as they can't really contribute meaningfully strategically or tactically.
