Is this Starscream the same as the Earthrise figure?

 

It’s the same except it has posable hands and the paint is ever so slightly different in certain areas.

One one hand, you’re not wrong, on the other, Perceptor was a lot more integral to the movie cast than Jazz.

(But from the background info that’s been gleaned, sounds like Beast Wars was originally going to be its own line or subline, then when it got included with Kingdom they created SS86 to help give a boost to Studio Series which was running out of gas.)

i don't care about starscream being essentially a new hat repack/refeature, but in the context of knowing they could've done at least one of this, ER or the kingdom literal repack in marvel/toy based color. they literally lightened the cartoon baby blue even more for this release lol

 

One of the main things worth knowing about the toy business is that they love to re-use toolings. Because it's so expensive, and Transformers in particular require so much unique tooling. That's certainly behind a lot of this.

I'd have to think a retooling of 85% Soundwave into a Blaster would be coming. Making the unique tapes is probably tough. The Blasters would be an easy enough change-up. How many less would they sell anyway even without the extra expense of making unique tooling for his tapes? I'll shut up in case I give them ideas.

There are fans who will pay for insanely expensive displays. I'll just note that there are a lot of adult collectors who would love to (or have done!) customize an ER StarScream with a cape and crown, etc., at considerable expense and time. (A lot. But a limited amount.) So Hasbro knows fans will buy it. I see a lot of fans feel some kind of bitterness. But given the cold, calculating bottom-line of these big companies trying to make marginal profits, I think this is a nod to the fans. Most of their profit comes from selling smaller, cheaper toys in bulk. They didn't have to do this.

 

Well...Perceptor looks great. I passed on the Titans Return figure because it was pretty puny so as long as this is a taller Deluxe I think it looks great.

Starscream looks...fine if you want a coronation figure. The new hands are fine and the colors are fine but I'd be more impressed if the red sections of his torso were color molded red plastic to prevent rubbing where they two halves lock together.

The sweep...nice to see it IS a different color at least.

 

I'm so glad I saw this on my lunch break and got my preorder for Perceptor in!

 

I checked and Hasbro Pulse was sold out just a few hours after the announcement. But Amazon still has them for the same price, plus free Prime Shipping. Or you can pay a premium for the other 3rd party sellers.

 

Huh. Did the Pulse site finally start working for Perceptor at some point then? I gave up after about an hour of “add to cart” not working.
