Good call. I hadn’t even thought how frustrating it would be trying to actually play a match with these.

This would have been a no-brainer for me but that price is preposterous. I don't believe for a moment that what they're presenting here cannot be made more economically. I feel like this company might not have the means to do it efficiently... like they have some super slow process for painting and producing this thing and so they have no choice but to pass the cost of that inefficiency on to the customer. I would pay maybe $400 for a top of the line version with numerous extras. For what I see here I'd pay $300 tops.

This is the price I've usually seen high-end chess sets go for but I can't plop down that type of price without getting a VERY good look at the quality of the pieces. My father has a Sherlock Holmes one where I can see the value in the pieces but since G1 characters aren't riddled with detail it's hard to tell the difference between the quality of one of these pieces and a PVC figure that would go for a fraction of the price.

I'd be interested but I really would need to see a prototype in person first before I was comfortable placing that money down.

Skywarp should have been a knight.

Wow, they're huge. Honestly maybe a bit too huge for a chess set. That board is going to take up a lot of real estate, but I'm sure it'll be a nice display. Definitely a pass for me though, if I wouldn't spend $600 on Unicron I'm not spending it on a chess set.

Counterpoint. I don’t know what issues he’s had specifically however I am a regular subscriber of theirs. I get the Star Trek lines and I did their solar system they recently rereleased. I’ve had issues occasionally but not common place. Anytime I had a broken item (which happens in shipping usually) or something missing a replacement is sent out no questions asked. They’re a good company and my experience has been positive.

Their product quality is quite good IMO and they really work hard to pull out quality detail. Also I’m easily 200 plus issues into my subs if you need a idea on numbers. I’d say I’ve had issues less than 5% of that, and each one resolved to satisfaction.

They just moved into a new warehouse also and shipping speed and quality has gone up.

I’m in for this. I like having chess sets and we’ve never gotten one before that’s worthwhile even at that price. There was one a few years back that got cancelled that I think was in the 400 range.

For those complaining it’s hard to tell what class each piece is, there’s a symbol on each side at the bottom of the base so it’s easier to tell for everything but the pawns (e.g. Optimus and Megatron have crowns, Hot Rod as a knight has a horse etc.)

Wow, it is with great dismay that people still use Boomer incorrectly. Most who grew up with G1 are quite literally Gen X. A boomer would be someone in their late 50s through 60s like my parents. Jesus.

I'd rather make my own using legends scale figures on a home-made board. Sure it'd cost a bit more, but then I'd have some sweet actually transformable figures for when I wasn't playing chess...

Fuck that price. I can make a chess set using the mainline figures for less than this, wtf.

I used to have the TF movie chess set. It was pretty sweet, but no one would ever play with me, because I was the only one in the room who could even tell them apart, let alone tell which piece they represented. And that thing was like $24.

I like the look of this chess set, but it has the same problem. At least with the movie chess set, the pawns were all Autobot or Decepticon symbols. Kinda boring, but there was never any guess work as to what pieces were pawns. This new set has like 16 different characters for pawns! And every piece like the rook, Knight & bishop that have two pieces are all represented by 2 different characters each too. Good luck with that.

The bases are just cubes. The stylized chess symbols on the bases don’t help much in identifying what piece is what. And that price. Goddamn. Just buy some TF mini figs and a cheap chess board and call it a day.

I was kinda excited for this, but that price is the deathblow.

These look like those Dollar Store PVC figures glued on a cube.  Pretty pricey though.

How’s about a Kickstarter for some obscure characters we’d actually want? Instead of this pointless trash  . I’d happily back one for a Commander Class Pretender Thunderwing or a Titan Class Nemesis or Tidal Wave. Give me the chance to get a fully articulated combing Armada Prime, Jetfire and Overload ffs.

How does that relate to Eaglemoss’ chess set? This isn’t a Hasbro project.

Is it weird that Megatron is the weakest piece and Starscream is the strongest?
