Elitism in collectors. “Oh, you didn’t get a figure due to a sell out because the preorder window was only 3.3 seconds even though you had 17 tabs open? I was running a single browser and I managed to order 6. One will be opened, one will be left MOC, one will go to my great grandkids, one will be buried with me, one I’ll sell at 200x original cost and the last one is just because I can”
Maybe it's just because I never watched any of the more recent Star Wars series such as that Boba Fett spin-off or The Mandalorian, but I honestly don't get all the hype surrounding that Luke Skywalker vs Dark Trooper set, and even with the whole Star Wars licensing thing the price of that set is still ridiculous and a poor value, especially considering other similar licensed LEGO sets like this Speed Champions Mercedes AMG 2-pack that came out at the same time gives you more to work with for almost the same price (At least in the US) Even with the mini-figures and whatever story context that the set represents, that Dark Trooper set as a LEGO build of its own merit... just don't have much else going for TBH since all you get is a dinky, incomplete grey hallway that didn't even look that impressive. That Speed Champions Mercedes AMG set, however, gives you 398 more pieces and a substantial pair of brick-built vehicles with all sorts of intricate building techniques, all in a package that was almost the same price.
. . . . . Mezco 1/12 figures look unproportioned, chunky, frumpy figures and their original characters are overrated . . . . . .
I didn't read the whole thread, so apologies if any of this is already covered. -Lego is oversaturated and played out. A case of too much of a good thing. -The "boot cut" articulation is completely useless on human figures. Your body doesn't work that way. Thigh cut and ankle rocker is all that is needed. I understand when it's due to construction methods. -Hasbro is the best head sculptor in the 1/12 scale................when they want to be. They might not be the most consistent but their best is better than anyone else's in the game. This one is more of a question. Why did we collectors (myself included) move away from vehicles when it was such a focus for so long. I love them and I have been coming back to them in the last 2 years. I mean a nice sleek jet or starfighter really looks great on display in a way a figure just doesn't. There's a lot of reasons I speculate on but I'm curious as to what others think.
Accessories, I don't understand why everyone demands that this figure come with a sh*t ton of hands, effects, etc. Granted its different for everyone and with limited space I just don't want to be stuck with all these extra pieces I don't know what to do with. I think thats why I love GI Joe Classified so much, they come with so much but they all can be stored on the figure (most of them). Also it may seem hypocritical of me to say this when NECA is one of my favorite companies right now and a lot of the horror figures I collect come with a bunch of weapons for them to use to kill their victims. Funko Pops. I don't care what the elitist toy collectors say, Funko Pops are f*cking awesome! I love how collecting the anime lineup means I get fairly accurate, for Funko, representations from my favorite animes. Plus they are dirt cheap which means I can get more and they get around to more characters I want that other companies haven't yet or won't. They even do properties I like that most companies probably won't touch, is McFarlane or NECA going to do Monty Python and the Holy Grail figures? Is Anime Heroes ever going to touch Demon Slayer? (I can't afford to go all in as much as I like for the Figmas) I like having them as nice accessory pieces on my shelf and they are fun to hunt for unlike other lines. Hasbro needs to do more Sequel trilogy figures, as a fan of Rise of Skywalker it hurts how little merch in Black Series it gets. I'm still waiting for Poe & Finn, I don't care if everyone else hates them there are those out there like me who love the Sequels and want more representation outside of the clamoring for Mandalorian figures (as much as I eat them up myself).
I definitely get this (I have a whole drawer full of baggies of extra accessories) but as someone who is big into photography, I love the options as it gives me a better ability to bring the character to life.
For some reason, it really bothers me when those import anime figurine companies constantly pumping out gazillions of figures of the same goddamn character from an anime over and over again, especially when they're other characters in the same series who were completely ignored and severely lacking in good figurine representations. Take the series Re: Zero, for example; As much as I get how Rem and Ram were the most popular characters of the series, I wish companies such as GSC, Alter or Kadokawa could put more effort into just making figures of some of the other characters such as Subaru, Crusch, Reinhardt or Ferris already, instead of giving us another dozen of Rems and Rams over and over again. What bothers me, even more, is that Subaru is the freaking main protagonist of the show, and yet the only proper figurine he ever got was a Nendoroid (which is a good figure but it's an online-only exclusive; So good luck finding one in your local anime collectible store!), and god forbid they make just one scale of him by himself over another Rem figure number #13,662!!
From my limited experience collecting SH Figuarts for Star Wars and some MCU stuff, yeah they don't seem to have a desire to complete many lines. I'm glad they got a lot of A New Hope Star Wars line done, but really limited for pretty much every other entry in the series. Mafex has been going strong on 90's X-Men and their comic Batman lines though! I'm a total stan for Mafex now, I used to be that for SH Figuarts but they just fell off for those lines I was collecting.
I am going to second this. All those extra hands and heads and whatnot end up in a damned bag that takes up space and I don't have a damned clue what to do with. All I need is the figure to be able to hold their accessories. That is it for me.
I hate interchangeable hands and accessories. Build them into the figure, darn it! Also, I feel that if a figure comes with a weapon, it has to be able to store on their person, and if the figure comes with multiple, they all have to be able to store simultaneously
Mezco should just admit to themselves that they can't produce the 89 Batman and just refund those that preordered.
Lol! Funny enough that by the weekend since the post they were sending notices that it's about to ship out.
