Caved and finally ordered this overpriced guy. Really hope he's worth it - everyone seems to be pretty happy with him.

 

You won't be disappointed, unless you fail to do the ratchet fix for the knees.
FansToys FT-44 Thomas (MP Astrotrain)

The build and sheen of this figure is some of FansToys best work; not to mention the ingenuity of the triple change.

 

Make sure you use the method shown in TMan978's review when transforming the booster section, as his method makes it super easy . If you do it the way most reviewers did (including Emgo...he really needs to update that part of his JTI video), you will only cause yourself pain.

 

It’s a decent figure. Looks great, transformation is meh. Is a good placeholder until Takara gets around to doing it.

 

Takara barely ever makes Decepticons and the next one is probably going to be Soundwave or the coneheads. We could easily go another decade without any triple changers from them.

 

Probably. I’m just sayin’. This is as good as we’ll probably get until Takara makes one. That’s all. I never said WHEN.

 

One of the factors in my decision to cave and get this is that I don't really trust that Takara will make a better one, or that I could afford it if/when they do.

 

Dont have to justify anything here. Your reasoning is sound and its your reasoning. I feel the same way. I doubt tt will make one anytime soon if ever. I have thomas and i can promise the tt version would have to be something really spectacular for me to swap.

 

Should have bought it sooner, been tempted way too long and finally bit the bullet...

FansToys FT-44 Thomas Astrotrain

 

Maybe ShowZ or his supplier stashed too many Thomas.
Now with FT's craziness starts to fade (partially because FT re-issued a lot its products like bugs, dinos, Skyfire, Cyclonus), they decided to not to bet too much? Just my guessing.

 

Technically the store can buy it from themselves, resell to themselves, and then resell later at a higher price. Sad

 

I would only buy a revised reissue. Or a better version from XTB, assuming they are back on track with good products.

 

Xtb's last 2 releases have been trainwrecks in terms of both qc and design. Their track record (mostly kfc) for triple changers also hasn't been great. What makes you think they can pull off an Astrotrain in the near future that won't suck, let alone one that could top Thomas?

 

Real alt-modes for example. Thomas hasn't been great either with those screw sliders, knee joints and the accurate "dick shuttle"... That's why I am waiting for a revised reissue or a XTB's version assuming it will be good. Their new upcoming releases will make me wait for it or discard Astrotrain altogether from my must buy list.

 

Wut? I thought Thomas was pretty solid in both alt-modes.

 

Some people don't like toon accurate altmodes.

It's one of the many reasons I didn't buy the new Bumblebee from Takara, as I don't care about the chibi alt mode.
