Sad to hear about Markie Post's passing today. Besides being known for the role of public defender Christine Sullivan on Night Court she voiced June Darby, Jack's Mom on Transformers: Prime and made an appearance at Botcon 2011. RIP

My condolences to her friends and family. Cancer does awful things to a person, and at least she's not suffering now, but man does that ever suck.

 

I was watching Night Court on dvd. Saw her first ep before she became a regular just a bit ago. Love that show.

 

With so many years attending BotCon from 1997 through 2016 and volunteering at BotCon from 2005 through 2016. I have had the chance to meet and work with so many wonderful voice actors. At BotCon I had extra access and more time then most to interact with all the voice actors. Getting to meet and speak with Markie Post at BotCon 2011 was such a incredible moment. Markie Post was a such a True Beauty in the Flesh!!! I was so enamored with her wit and thrilled to get to speak with her. I remember nervously telling her what a crush I had on her when she was on Night Court. So most of the time during our interaction, we spent speaking about her time on Night Court. Asking her what it was like being on one of the funniest TV series I had seen. Our conversation was more about her playing Christine Sullivan then her playing June Darby on Transformers: Prime. She told me that I was so enjoyable to meet and that I have a very original look. She really loved my boots! She was amazed at all 15 years of my BotCon Badges I was wearing at the time, which she signed my BotCon 2011 badge. Plus I got such an incredible hug from her to boot.

Oh my god! Night Court was one of my absolute favorite shows growing up and when she joined the cast it became perfect! Charles Robinson died last month. Harry Anderson years ago. That’s so sad… I think I need to binge the show…

 

Night Court really found it’s footing (for three seasons, though) when she joined the cast. RIP

My condolences to her family and friends. F-ing cancer. We have lost too many loved ones to it.  

 

Oh man.

I have made my mixed opinions on Prime clear many times. But June Darby was the rare parent character in a story like Transformers who was not an incompetent moron, an obstructive worrywart, or an unreasonable jerk. She was warm, caring, but stern and protective. And so much of that was thanks to Markie. She really brought almost a sense of gravitas to the role. She sounded like the most reasonable person in the room even acting against Peter Cullen’s Optimus. That scene where Optimus sadly admits he failed while addressing her by her first name? Powerful. This is Optimus Prime, battle-hardened and stoic to a fault leader of a faction of warring robots for thousands of years, having a genuine heart to heart with a mother. And he does not object when she stands firm in her decision to remove the children from such a dangerous life. Markie puts it so firmly - “they’re children.” The way she delivers it, you can tell that Markie has fought her own battles to protect the ones she loves in her own life. June has that warmth and toughness to her. I fully bought that this mother not only was the experienced mother of a teenager, but a dedicated nurse and protector.

June may not have had the largest role in Prime. But she was one of my favorite human characters we ever had, and it’s deeply saddening to hear the loss of her actress considering the series is truly not that old - but at the same time, it is. It shows the devastating passage of time and that no one is here forever. The fact we lost her to cancer is all the more heartbreaking.

I loved June, and I’m so sad to hear of this.

 

RIP, So Sad.

 

Rest in peace. She was excellent as June Darby, who really didn't get enough to do, IMO.
