Recently got 86 Kup…looks good. Also looks upside down. Anyone else got an upside down 86? Are they rare or can I crack into it? Ordered from Game Stop. Thanks for the info!
Yes! The backing is right side up, 86 lines up with the window on the side, but Kup in the plastic is upside down.
Studio Series boxes can be opened from the bottom without cutting any tape or anything, so while a neat oddity, this wouldn't be considered rare/valuable since it'd be easy to just do yourself.
Thanks for the responses. (Sharkticon pit variant ) I tried the flip on the Blur figure and it can be done. But the person doing it I would imagine had some issues. (Disgruntled seeker of a rocket-firing Fett, flips a transformer, then runs around yelling, “Hey! Look what I almost stepped in!”) But not the case here. (That’s not to say I don’t have issues) As a means of verification that this came boxed as shown; would the numbers on the box be of any help?
Generally stuff like a factory person shoved the figure in upside down or even the wrong name cardboard insert is not something considered as a value-adding variant in this fandom. Paint or mold changes, sure. Maybe even if it was a sealed G1 or Diaclone mistake that was known among avid collectors. Only Hasbro would be able to do anything with the numbers on the box. You could report it to their customer service and they would likely file it as a quality control issue, if they even track minor packaging issues like that.
