I think the irony is that they do care about the internet voice that they claim doesn't matter. They cared enough about it to fire Depp because they feared the backlash if they didn't, and they care enough about it that they kept Heard because they fear the backlash if they didn't. Because, as you said, they're gambling that most people outside certain internet circles see the case as Depp bad, Heard victim.
Right, because the Depp side of things was louder. His accusations made headlines in a way hers don't. She might be the worse person, but (at least for now) she's not the bigger liability. It's always about the bottom line. 'Cancel Culture' is just the invisible hand of the market at work.
After she manipulated her way into getting Johnny kicked from Fantastic Beasts 3 it’s a nice little bit of payback
Well actually she swore under oath in the UK trial that she already donated all the money. So if she didn't actually donate all the money, his lawyers can say that she was lying under oath. So what else was she lying about? Can we trust any of her testimony? That kind of thing can be a big deal in a trial. There is lot of other evidence against her, but this isn't the place to talk about it. As far as this movie, it's likely a lot of this will come out at trial either before or right around the time the movie is due to come out. So that will be a lot of bad press when they don't want any.
Plus, this newsflash just in: The rich don't donate to charity out of a sense of philanthropy. They do it to offset giant tax payments in the form of a write-off.
or in her case she did it to offset the giant backlash she was facing after news broke that her original story had serious holes in it.
Yeah, that too, clearly. But I also wouldn't be surprised that her actual take-home from the divorce settlement is more money for having donated a strategic amount of it, than it would have been if she'd just kept all of it and paid taxes on all of it.
Black Manta being my top favorite DC villains of all time this is fantastic news! Plus I didn’t even know he’d show up.
As if it matters since You-Know-Who is still in the movie and watch it fail in retaliation for Johnny Depp
Rupert Gregson-Williams to Return for James Wan’s ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ | Film Music Reporter
Very possible. That's why studios often wrestle with whether to hire or fire controversial casting choices. Or to put it another way...
Unless there's an earth-shattering development in their case that makes major news between now and the movie's release, I don't see it being a problem.
Apparently, she actually didn't... she is just scrambling now to quickly donate it over 1.5 years before they discover her lies. Which is damning since this was one of the reasons the jury ruled in her favor in the courtroom for...
