I’m so excited for this movie. It looks like it’ll be the dirty dozen of supervillains that the first one promised to be.
The film released on Friday in Ireland and Great Britain. I went to the final showing last night. The best DC movie since The Dark Knight Trilogy. An excellent 2 hours+ of insane black comedy & very gory, blood-splattering action and themes of freedom, human worth and governmental control running underneath. My thoughts below: Spoiler Brilliant cast - nearly everyone killed their respective roles. Harley would edge above the pack as my favorite character. This was Margot Robbie's best portrayal of the character. She had the off-kilter craziness and capable badassary but Gunn really understood the character so gave ample time to show her heart & loving (if twisted) nature. Idris Elba delivered as always, given the right charm and depth to Bloodsport. He's clearly a Deadshot stand-in, but Idris does such a great job as the de-facto leader that you don't care and more than leaves his personal stamp on the film. His costume - especially the mask/helmet - was awesome. I loved his rivalry with Peacemaker, with a scene of them moving through a hostile camp and competing against each other via mowing through the soldiers there being a standout. Cena is another actor who turned in a great performance. He effortlessly plays ("plays"? ) an awkward stiff and he's fearless in making a joke of himself. Big spoilers follow: Spoiler But he captures the serious aspects very well too. It's revealed early in Act 3 that the US government was behind & funded Project: Starfish - which is shown in visceral, harrowing, body horrifying detail - and the true purpose of the Squad's mission of destroying the facility is to prevent the US involvement from leaking. Peacemaker knows this, being willing to protect the cover up due to the international incidents and threat to peace an unveiling would pose and put on the team to ensure no one in the Squad grows a conscience & releases the information. Earlier in the film, it was actually Peacemaker who ordered a few drinks for the Squad while they waited on a stakeout, and he had just as much fun as they all did. This writing and John's portrayal really didn't allow the character to be a one-note mole and/or lapdog. He really did wind up being this conflicted character who did grow to appreciate his comrades as they all fought & journeyed together. John's expressions as he killed Flagg were top tier - you could see the regret, doubt, shame and ultimately resignation and re-affirmation all just through his facial acting. The following shoot-out between him and Bloodsport was really well done - no questions asked by the latter and it was a payoff to their dialogue in their first meeting. It was really fun to get to see Starro on the big screen. Aside from just putting him in an A-movie, Gunn & crew really add a surprising, previously unknown depth to the character. Starro is not the villain, he's the victim. Starro was discovered (re: captured) by US astronauts and locked way in Corto Maltease for 3 decades. The horror of the experiments conducted were just as painful and uncomfortable for him as the Corto Malteasen test subjects. In the finale, he's motivated merely by retribution for all that happened to him. His final moments are actually really emotionally affecting: as he dies at the Squad's hands to stop his rampage, through the dictator general under his control, he tells Ratcatcher "I was happy when I was up there. Floating, looking at the stars". The crew deserve all the props in the world for taking an out-there, one-dimensional personality-wise villain and adding such feelings of pity & unfairness to him. King Shark was a really fun member of the Squad as well. A great interpretation that stood out, and I also really liked this version of the Polka-Dots-Man. Ratcatcher 2 was likeable as the heart of the team and she had a big payoff in Act 3. I should state at this point that I actually quite liked Ayer's Suicide Squad movie. But, in terms of being a movie and in terms of being a Suicide Squad story, this film easily surpassed it. As a Squad interpretation, it really captures the violence, chaos and expendability of Task Force X. Opening sequence spoilers: Spoiler Waller's desk team are introduced placing bets on how long the criminals in Squad A will last. Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Ratcatcher 2, King Shark and Polka-Dots-Man are Squad B in this mission - all the other colorful villains we saw in promotional material are Squad A, who are sent there merely as a diversion so Squad B can arrive in Corto Maltease safely. The entirety of Squad A, except for Harley & Flagg, are brutally murdered in their firefight in those opening moments, and that's far from where the killing stops. This film really captured an "anyone can die" feeling of unsafety that defines the Squad. Viola Davis is impeccable as Amanda Waller. I liked the character and especially her portrayal in Ayer's film, but like Robbie as Quinn, Gunn understood the character and got the best out of Davis in the role. She truly is "the Wall" in this one. This was a really special movie. There's very little flaws I can find with it. Undisputedly a must-see. Gunn's best project to date and one of DC's very best. Don't get attached.
I watched the film earlier today and absolutely loved it. Whilst there were aspects of Suicide Squad I enjoyed it, too much of it was "iffy" for it to be more than just "OK"... The Suicide Squad (whyyy such a similar name for the sequel...?), by comparison, was thorough enjoyment with quite a few laugh-out-loud scenes, quite a few "ewwww" moments and some decent heart to it, too. Absolutely loved King Shark and Polka-Dot man
Just got back from the Cinema. Best DC film I've seen in a while. Was not expecting THAT amount of gore. Pretty certain there will be a sequel or spin offs. Idris Elba fits the role of Bloodsport far better than that of Heimdall.

I like Margot Robbie’s Harley. Glad to see she’s finally in a good movie. Excited to catch this in theaters later this month.
Was a much MUCH better movie than the first one in my opinion, I don't usually say this but if you like comic movies this is a must watch.
All I can say right now is bra-fucking-vo Gunn. Goddamn masterpiece. Funny and emotional in all the right places.
Great movie but too much gore IMO. Feels like Gunn is getting his rocks off here doing things Marvel wouldn’t let him do. Ratcatcher 2 and Sebastian steal the movie. It will blow away your expectations.
