Genuine question, why are people always asking for the STL files? I dont understand the sentiment of wanting to download other people's files, I don't see that happening on other artist's posts, but yet somehow I get a lot of people wanting my files no matter how hard I try to brush them off. It's getting extremely annoying and the flak I'm getting for telling them off isn't that great either. Is there something I'm missing out on?

I think they just want to have the files to print Sky Garry and Grandus themselves.

It's not every day a TF Fan designs toys of characters from the Japanese G1 Continuity that haven't recieved an CHUG figure officially yet

I myself ain't asking for the files because I don't have a 3d printer or the skills in toy making in general, plus I'm generally a lethargic person so I'd rather wait for an official release.

I understand the sentiment of wanting my figures, and I understand the sentiment of wanting Sky Garry and Grandus(which is exactly why I made these guys)

What I dont understand is wanting the files, instead of wanting the protos, or even the final product in the near future. I'd say I'm entitled enough to reject these people, but they just dont stop asking for it.

It’s probably a mixture of the quality of your work and people being uncertain if it will see a physical release maybe? I think people just don’t want to miss out. Personally I’d love to see it get some kind of release sometime but I’m also greatfull I get to see pictures of your designs :)

It has to do with the general interest in 3D printing these past couple of years. The number of people who've had access to a printer has skyrocketed. It's cheap, fun, and more practical than waiting sometimes even a whole year for something to arrive in the mail. Even then, one can still sell files, like Sam's Forge, or Toras Workshop. I personally love the manufactured thing, but if Hasbro started selling files for personal use, I'd be all over it immediately.

I have a 3d resin printer and I understand why hobbyists would be interested in the source files - the quality looks official and it looks to be a fun build. I myself would actually be more interested in seeing/learning how you actually design this thing. If you were ever to do screen recordings of your process with narration - I would legit buy into that as a learning course.

As a fellow hobbyist I respect and completely understand your decision to withhold your work, keeping it a one-of-a-kind and yours alone, but as an economy major I can see where people are coming from, alongside from what others have said on the matter, it's also because a precedent has been set where if someone posts 3D printable figures they give everyone the access to the finished product in someway shape or form, whether it be selling the files, selling the figure, doing both, or giving the files away for free in some cases, creating a win-win situation, the artist makes bank and the people get a cool new toy. People not having this (especially with such niche, and cool characters) comes off as confusing and potentially even frustrating, thus why people don't learn their lesson and keep coming back.

It's not just you. As a fellow 3D artist, I'm constantly asked to share and sell my files. Many of the requests are explicitly to 3D print. It's just something I expect at this point, but the only times it bothers me is if I'm chastised for not sharing my work for free.

Well I' don't care about the files, rather I'd like a Grandus figure ;)  but that's just me.
As always mate...you guys who can 3d design and print, have truly changed the customizing game. As you are not just doing a custom, but are actually creating a figure 100% from scratch. You have the ability to create something to 100% to your vision. I am an old school conceptual designer. I can design the look, and even dabble in working out a prototype, but I am no engineer. So I am truly impressed. Carry on my friend! and Cheers!
