How does Jazz fit into the movie? Is this in the same universe as the Bay movies? Is he going to be cooler?
Probably cause his bot mode looks like Mirage. If it doesn't, then we can call this a name-slap or a Blitzwing scenario.
I mean really the only reason to put established names on different vehicles and toys is to keep trademarks. G1 is the source material and unlike other cartoon franchises Transformers reboots with every new series. Thats my biggest issue. Especially with the Bay movies as the sold the 2007 as a G1 adaption. To the point of bringing Cabover Rigs to conventions. And those early viral clips that straight referenced G1 cartoon looks. The lore could be used to make a continuous story told over time with different characters but the original names and looks are what sell.

That's not true by any stretch of the imagination, there are tons of examples in this brand of characters who get their vehicle mode/altmode changed up between incarnations, but still remain in the spirit of the character. Like Megatron being a tank or jet in newer incarnations instead of a gun. Or Ratchet being a traditional ambulance (in something like TFP) instead of a Dodge van ambulance. Keeping the personality is what matters the most.
The source material is anything that predates the adaptation, so the movies pulled not just from the G1 Cartoon, but the G1 Marvel Comics, Dreamwave, and the cartoons Beast Wars, RID 2001, Armada, Energon, and Cybertron. Then the sequels (ROTF, DOTM, AOE, and TLK) and spin-off (Bumblebee) took elements from Animated (2008), Prime, RID 2015, and Cyberverse. As sparks and protoforms didn't originate in the G1 Cartoon, but the Beast Wars cartoon. Jetfire didn't combine with Optimus in the 1984 G1 Cartoon, but from 2002/2003 Armada. The bounty hunter Lockdown originated from 2008's TF Animated show and appeared in the AOE. Bumblebee's amnesia storyline was first featured in Cyberverse and then in the his own movie, which might be an example of Hasbro's brand synergy, of what appears in the cartoons appears in the movies.
Why didnt they jus make this Jazz? Its a reboot at this point right? Even if its not, it takes place before 2007 andis there even a cohesive movie timeline anymore? The BB movie pretty much changes the timeframe of the events in the \'07 movie right?
I still think it's premature to call Mirage here a nameslap when we haven't even seen his robot mode yet. Especially since from what we've heard he's pretty close to his G1 design and personality anyway. Besides even if he shares some of Jazz's design traits in both mode that doesn't mean it end the chances of Jazz having his G1 alt mode and G1 appearance. I mean look at how both Blitzwing and Starscream have similar designs in Bumblebee 2018 but you can clearly tell who's Starscream by certain design and color elements.
I like the blue stripe, very 90s. Hopefully the bot mode is good and has more blue. It's still too bad they didn't use this car mode for Jazz.
At this point, I feel like the folks that write the articles for this website like to report on photos of ROTB Mirage whenever they can just for shits and giggles to watch people get upset and debate about the choice of vehicle mode lmao
Totally agree. And what's funny is that this franchise is no stranger to having different characters share the same automobile manufacturer, or even the exact same vehicle. Soundwave, Wheeljack/Que, and Drift are Mercedes. Junkheap has the exact same garbage truck mode as the Long Haul clone from DOTM. Lockdown and Hot Rod are very similar looking Lamborghinis. Sideswipe and Crosshairs are both Corvettes. I honestly think a lot of the outrage over this is people feeling like this means Jazz will never appear, or that he won't be a Porsche if he does. I remember being upset at the announcement that the AOE Galvatron was a freightliner, because I felt like they should have used that vehicle for Optimus. I think the same thing is happening here (maybe even on a subconscious level for some people). But this doesn't really affect Jazz, outside of implying he won't be in this movie. But he could always appear in a future movie as a Porsche. Maybe even the same Porsche he was in G1 instead of a 911.
Man, Sunstreaker is gonna be pissed when he finds out Dead End is trying to impersonate him. Though I'm sure Jazz finds it hilarious that a Con is vibe-ing his style.
