Halo Infinite's First Multiplayer Season Will Be Themed Around Reach - IGN Starting from the chronological beginning, nice. I’m pretty glad that the Battlepass’s are going to stick around and not go away when a new one comes in. Allows you to complete things
They brought Choppers back, oh thank gosh, I really did miss Choppers. I loved them back in the day, stalking the deserts and fields in Halo 3, waiting for the flag guy to hop into the waiting Warthog before ramming them and killing us all in fiery glory. Beautiful
Anyone else here part of the multiplayer flight? I've been playing it over the last few days and it's a mixed but positive (IMO) bag. Good: - Game looks fantastic. The art style, the armours, the graphics, the level design, all virtually perfect. No high contrast confusing mess of overdetailed mush like 4 and 5. - Armour customization is sweet. Lots of options, even prostheses and every bit customizable. Again, it all looks good. - Bots are a blast to fight. They're almost too good. They play really well and don't feel very exploitable/predictable. - Most of the weapons feel great, but the BR and Skewer are so satisfying. This is also probably the best AR since Reach if I'm being honest. - Vehicles all look amazing, especially the Scorpion. Shame there wasn't at least one game mode to try them out. - No enhanced movement BS. Sprint and slide are there but they're both a joke if I'm being honest. Otherwise all you have is clamber which isn't the worst thing ever, just kind of unnecessary. - It's fun. I never feel bored or unengaged like I did with previous 343i entries. It feels really damn good and comes across as a direct successor to Reach, yet IMO handles better. - Equipment feels right at home. It has its own ammo counter, so you can't infinitely grapple or drop shields, but it's not single-use. This makes it feel more strategic without being super limited. The abilities are also fun and nothing feels overpowered so far. Meh: - Sprint and slide are a joke. You move 2% faster wile sprinting, which means nothing in anything besides a straight race across the map. It's literally useless and might as well not be there. - The new weapons stand out visually and already feel a bit pointless. Nothing justifies the Bulldog's existence over the classic shotty, aside form its ridiculous drum-fed design with forward grip. Functionally it's just the shotgun, no reason to be replaced. The Commando rifle is also just a fairly pointless inclusion that doesn't feel especially at home in the sandbox. - Needler feels off. It tracks less than the burst carbine or whatever it's called, and sounds pretty bad, which leads to: - This game does not sound as good as it looks. It's very much a continuation of the same mistakes in 4 and 5. Human weapons sound generic, Covenant weapons sound goofy. Those distinct sounds are just not there, which hurts that Halo feel when the visuals and gameplay are. - Shaders are, in principle, a poor decision. I like the variation of schemes but not the inability to choose colours. We all know why this is. - Maps feel just a touch plain, but not in a bad way. Aside from the visuals I can't say the first two feel all that different. Bazaar is better because its one big open area flanked by closed quarters sections. Bad: - Really sucks to start up a game and be greeted by a store. Worse, the shop is the reason why shaders are so limited. It's just MT bullshit and kinda sucky. - The AI are beyond fucking annoying. Only one that's not an ear-piercer is Bultr, but the one female voice is cringey as fuck and the Pyramid one is just super annoying. They contribute to the game being way too verbal and distracting. - The Spartan chatter is annoying as hell, though unlike the AI it can at least be turned off in options. (though it's glitched for me) In general the game has too much talking and callouts during gameplay that, at best, annoys and at worst distracts. - Powerups respawning with a visible timer bothers me. At first I was indifferent, but then I realized people were just ignoring everything and camping the spawns, watching the timer go down, rather than playing organically. The fact that no weapons merely sit on the map to be picked up, at least in bot slayer, is also annoying. Aside from feeling gimmicky it forces the game to be all about chasing the next weapon spawn rather than making due with what you have. - I don't know if this is a glitch or part of the above point, but weapons despawn after being dropped entirely too fast. Sometimes instantly. Again, it makes the natural killing and pilfering feel more like a waiting game and forces people to camp spawns. - The bots are pretty much perfect but are entirely too accurate with grenades. Like they bank these fucking things like pros. This isn't the worst negative ever but it's beyond frustrating when they are literally processing trajectories with machine-like precision and speed. Overall it's definitely more good than bad. Some of my negatives are more like nitpicks in the interest of fairness, and the only ones I really dislike are the obnoxious AI and obvious monetization BS. But even then I assume AI could be made toggled in the future, if not disabled, and the shaders are certainly the least offensive monetization scheme out there. That said, it's still a Fortnite-style progression pass you gotta pay for, and we know there's going to be a Battle Royale mode form the leaks. There could be more shit than this in the final game but the bones are there and it at least all looks very pretty.
I’ve been playing it too, and I agree with all your points especially the bot’s grenade accuracy. I’ll kill one boy and get three grenades landing at my feet after being banked off 2 different walls. Overall it’s a lot of fun and feels like a Halo game.
Also something must've been fucked up, because the Spartan bots are easier than the ODSTs. They either got switched or they accidentally put them on Marine difficulty.
As a long time Halo fan, I don’t find anything appealing about Infinite. Maybe because I was burned out by Halo 5, but nothing about Infinite screams must have.
Maybe not for you, but at this point Infinite has more cut/delayed features than it has currently implemented. Six years and they still can't deliver the full game even after delays? My confidence in this is shaky.
I’d rather have it delayed then rushed. They are still giving us the main course. I don’t need the dessert right away. It’s not cut features just delayed.
Rant Time:For fucks sake it doesn’t have co-op campaign or Forge. People keep acting like it’s only got 1/3 of a campaign and 1 multiplayer map. I mean…. Those are not fucking requirements for a game. Has every Halo game had them? Yes? Should you expect them? Yes. Should you act like an entitled brat and say that 343 is the worst company ever, despite the fact that 2 weeks ago you were praising them for the gameplay demo? Spoiler NO YOU FUCKING SHOULDN’T I cannot take this fucking hypocritical bullshit. One week it’s “oh 343 has learned this is going to the best!” I’d rather the game be delayed so it can be as good as possible when it’s launched!” And the next week PEOPLE ARE STARTING PETITIONS TO GET 343 HEADS FIRED. Has anybody considered that Microsoft is forcing 343 to release the game despite the fact that it’s not got Co-op or Forge? Cause you know, that happens a lot. Thats part of the reason why Cyberpunk was such a buggy fucking mess. It wasn’t ready, and it kept getting delayed until the higher up said “This IS going to be on store shelves by Christmas.” Same thing has happened with so many other games recently. But what Halo Infinite has over those games, is that it won’t be a buggy fucking mess. It will be missing 2 game modes. Now I have to ask, would you rather have a buggy unplayable mess? Or 2 missing game modes that will come 6 months later? Theres also the fact that do to Infinite’s nature of a more “live-service” oriented game, the higher ups demanded those modes be withheld so they could be treated as free new content to extend the life cycle of the game. Treating the developers who have worked hard on this game for the last several years as the worst fucks in the gaming industry(bar Blizzard) is not the right thing to do, as they don’t make those decisions. I’d love to post this to the people in the Halo subreddit, but I’m pretty sure since everyone hates 343 right now they’d just ban me for not participating the echo chamber.
I agree with you, the core package they are offering is perfectly fine. We are getting the essentials. I am cautiously optimistic. I think every Halo game has top notch gameplay. I have issues 4 & 5 but it’s just story related (Well 4 PVP sucked too).
Exactly. We aren’t being sold and unplayable game with no content, we are being sold a full game that will have more content then most shooters at launch. But just because it doesn’t have 2 game modes, you have people saying they’ll boycott the game and that it should be $30 instead of $60. I mean honestly some of the vitrol makes me embarrassed to be a Halo fan.
What I would like to see is for video game companies to stop announcing a games existence when it's only 10% done. It would avoid a lot of these sort of troubles. Hype and expectations wouldn't be so bad if these things were announced when the studios themselves know EXACTLY what to expect vs what they HOPE to accomplish. I do however agree that the reactions to these sort of things is beyond dramatic. It's a video game. Your lives will go on.
