This passed week I've been revisiting Sons of Anarchy, which I haven't seen since it ended. Being a father, even though I'm not part of a gun running biker gang, this show hits really damn hard in the feels. So many heartwrenching, hilarious, disgusting, dreadful and uplifting moments in this show. I forgot how much I've missed this show and how good it is. This was one hell of a ride watching this again.
Is that the newer series from a few years back where they're wanted by the government or something? I remember seeing some of it, wasn't bad.
My wife and I are in the latest season of 911. It's a pretty good show that to me has a very 80s feeling, like it combines modern elements with CHIPs and Emergency! from the 70s/80s. It's good and isn't preachy about diversity but rather shows it in effect. So far season 4 has been pretty good.
I like 9-1-1. 9-1-1 Lone Star is ok too. Lone Star's first season is weak, but once Liv Tyler is gone in season two it got way better. LS is not as good as the original because it seems like forced diversity instead of feeling organic. LS felt like a checklist of ok "White guys? Check. Hispanic? Check. LGBQT? Ok we got a gay guy and a trans female so check. African American? One female one trans male so double check. Muslim? Female muslim so check..." It feels forced because they were assembling a team from scratch and needed diversity.
I haven't tried Lone Star but my wife did and she quite it pretty quick. Strange how forceful it is considering the main series just is and doesn't cram it down your throat so much as just show things as they are and leaves it there.
First season is pretty bad, but it gets better. Basic idea is this: A Texas fire department is wiped out in a fertilizer factory explosion. Only one survivor. The local government hires Rob Lowe's Capt. Strand, a NYC captain who was in 9-11. The Texas fire dept has a diversity problem. Since they are building from the ground up he hires top fire fighters from around the country. They just happen to be very diverse. One is a black trans guy (F to M. A real F to M trans actor). A Muslim female who has heroic escapades posted on social media, a hispanic trainee, Strand's gay son firefighter, and the one survivor of the explosion your typical Texas guy. Liv Tyler is the paramedic. She was awful.
Why did no one ever tell me about The Goes Wrong Show from the BBC? The Nativity Goes Wrong will now be a new Christmas viewing tradition! I've now seen both series and specials thanks to TUBI and YouTube. This show is bonkers in every good way imaginable.
Decided to watch Chernobyl tonight. It's been a year since I first saw it (came late to the party) and the magnitude of this series has lost none of its potency. It's crazy to think that even though I wasn't a year old, this still happened in my lifetime.... absolutely fascinating and equally terrifying. This show is seriously damn near perfectly executed. The cinematography, the music, the actors/actresses performances, the dialog... all top notch. I only have one small criticism, but I understand why it was done the way it was and it's more than acceptable. I can't give this show anything less than a 9.5 out of 10, it's a modern masterpiece. If you haven't seen this show, you've done yourself a disservice.
