Maybe the monsters are fake but it is one of Courage's old villains pretending to be them. Like Katz or Le Quack dressed up as these creatures. Also good timing with the cicadas I live in Florida never had to deal with those bugs but I heard recent news reports of them invading causing issues for other folks.

On the topic of Courage, I agree about the art style not fitting Courage does feel more like Scooby-Doo I don't like that Courage's creator was not involved. But Maxwell Adams was involved I know he worked on Billy and Mandy also worked on the recent Scooby Halloween movie that had Batman and Scarecrow. I never saw that one but I think I remember hearing more positive things about that one unlike the new 13 ghosts and the new zombie island.

Yeah the cicada swarm is some funny timing considering the recent onslaught of them IRL.

Personally I thought the Halloween movie was hot garbage. Felt reliant on celebrity cameos and cross-overs, was a mostly poorly paced chase scene, glutted on late 2010’s/2020 references and slang to an obnoxious degree, and again felt too safe and sanitized. It’s Scooby-Doo, it’s Halloween, have fun with it and really give us something surreal and scary. But no, instead it has a campy 70’s style love song as it’s main theme and is too busy making avocado toast jokes.

I wish Scooby would actually try again, like again, the Zombie Island run, Mystery Incorporated. Even the lighter stuff like What’s New Scooby-Doo and A Pup Named Scooby Doo felt like it was trying more than recent Scooby material. Courage is such a primordial, boundary-pushing horror series that takes advantage of the medium of animation to show us some really scary, memorable shit, and at least some of it seems to be carrying over.

Since it’s a Scooby movie, inevitably there’s going to be an unmasking. But yeah the sight of Muriel turning into a fish has me hopeful they don’t keep on their hardline regime against real monsters and supernatural.

Weren’t Eustace & Muriel (somewhat) fish already when they were wrongfully sentenced to live in a giant fishbowl?

Scooby Doo: when there's an unmasking, it's someone that wants more money by scaring people.
Courage the Cowardly Dog: when there's an unmasking, it starts an allegory about relationship abuse (IMO an really good one)

It was a crushing blow to learn of the loss of Thea White. I look forward to the film if nothing else to hear her as Muriel one last time. RIP.

On Amazon, Straight Outta Nowhere was, and still is, at #1 in best-selling animation/anime so far!

I liked how they mixed in Courage enemies into the opening.

Watched it on a website. I will be honest I was not expecting to like it but I actually ended up enjoying it. If you watch Courage a lot you will notice lots of references and easter eggs. The crew behind this really did watch Courage's show. The movie did feel like an actual crossover by actual crossover I mean the Scooby gang never overshadowed the Courage family. As you can tell from the trailer Eustace is absent from some parts of the movie but he is still in the movie for a good amount. Things they did with Eustace that I didn't like. They made him rap he sings a rap song and the song is a pun on the title straight outta nowhere they also overuse the scary mask gag and this is a minor spoiler Eustace is used as a red-herring.

Everything I liked Got some laughs even and I liked the effects which gave me most of my laughs. Also liked which characters they paired together besides the obvious Courage being paired with Scooby and Shaggy I wasn't expecting them to pair Muriel up with Velma. I was surprised that the movie was self-aware I won't spoil anything major but I will say if you are worried about Courage's villains being fake they are not they even make a joke about it and another joke about Eustace being a red-herring

Overall not bad I'm not really a fan of modern Scooby still I felt this was a fun crossover. The opening is also pretty nice

Hooo boy, you totally predicted the ending...
it's BOTH of them dressed up as the cicada monster. And they are never even seen before the unmasking, so it's just an out of nowhere cameo basically, for the fans.

Have not seen it yet but looks like some courage fans are ticked at the ending.

All the ghosts and monsters from the courage series were from a comet and not real ones. The comet made them. Is that true? Ouch.

I think it said the comet attracted them or something. I don't remember exactly but wherever they came from they are not guys in costumes or anything like that so the way I see it they are real. I don't see a reason to get upset.

The Dark Matter comet is basically a Hellmouth from Buffy; it either created the monsters or attracted them to the town of Nowhere.
