Your exactly right on both accounts. Likes on social media are just like The Game. But also about the likes on this site.

Used too, I could wake up to 20 replies and continue having multiple conversations. It was great, and I loved the discussion. These days whenever I check my alerts and see only likes but no replies I feel sad. I miss seeing the response to my comments or work.

On the topic of that, it’s part of the reason why I don’t really enjoy posting in the Movie Toys Appreciation thread anymore. Nobody responds in that thread, it’s just likes, and the lowest effort photos are most of the time the most liked. I used to post some of my customs in there, and I mean figures I spent months painting and kitbashing…. only to have no replies and practically no likes because somebody took a 2 second photo of something they found at Target and everybody had to like that.

Which gets me on another point I really hate about social media. The most popular shit is always going to be the things with lowest effort put into them. And I think it’s because people are just mentally lazy about it. They want something simple to give their likes too, not something that inspires a thought.

Nope. Don't check them. Don't even have accounts on most of them. Only have a fake Facebook acct for when people link to something that needs to log in under. Account not under me but a TV character name.

I do think Twitter needs to be destroyed. Seems that is the cause of a lot of hatred with thr whole Cancel thing

Nope. I have abandoned Facebook and nearly all social media (never went near twitter). Unfortunately I rarely post here anymore. I follow my favorite artists and posters on Instagram (mostly car stuff), but thats it. Between 2000-today, The internet went from a place of community, to the wild west. You can have great conversations and interactions, but you never know when someone is gonna kick in the Saloon door and start shootin off their mouth until the brawl starts and the shooting begins. My employers have all had a huge STAY OFF THE INTERNET recommendation policy. So I generally do, which is unfortunate because I'm a toy designer.

I don’t feel overwhelmed, the only social sites I use are discord, Instagram, dA and tumblr. I stay way from sh*tstorms like twitter and Facebook.

I stopped using Twitter five years ago and I’m better for it. That place and Facebook need to be destroyed.

    Agreed...

I post with the aim to share something, according to the theme of the thread or such, usually to share something original, a custom, a repair, or something that might actually assist or help another member.

For pictures, I prefer seeing something original, I love seeing older figures that are done right (a properly taken image) as it may inspire me to get such a figure should I not already have it.

I absolutely prefer discussion, but I've learned that at times, it's a double-edge sword as some people aren't so much responding, but trying to pick an argument or such. When I respond, I do with as much clarity and respect as I can, and I do mean to discuss and not argue.

That said, the "good" thing about some situation is that it allowed me to be able to filter out the worst... where once I wanted to avoid using block/ignore, now I enjoy being able to not having to be exposed to the crap.

Sadly, to be completely honest, I get annoyed scrolling the 30-40 flat and near identical pictures of the latest/new figure that everyone just got, when I see the same person posting the same in more than 2 threads (unless it's warranted) and that they post so much that I can't help but wonder how they have so much free time. I get annoyed with the same arguments, the same topics that the horse isn't just dead, but they are digging him out, the posts that the person did not even try to search for an answer (that's been given 100s of time), and such.

Note that this is the same with all the social media platform. I will probably never stop using Facebook as 1) I barely have "friends" as my list is the people that do matter, so real friends and family, and to stay in touch with them, with events, some groups for news and such. I just find that it's not the platform, it's what people do with them.

What was the point of Tumblr? Isn't it the same thing as Twitter?

No, I don't feel overwhelmed. I do have an account on Facebook and Instagram, but very reluctantly. I tried quitting all social media four years ago and had a relatively successful two-year run. Then I joined a self-improvement program (a few months before the pandemic) and one of the requirements was to join the program's Facebook group. Wanting to complete the course, I was forced back on even though I didn't want to.

I am not fond of social media at all.

I blame social media for the decline of forums. 2005 is an exception, whereas most other message boards from the 2000s have long since perished. :(

Social media is definitely overwhelming, but I also feel like some companies are too lenient on what you can post, while others are down right nazis. Like I just recently got a 30 day ban from Facebook for telling an anti-vaxxer they weren't smart enough to understand the post they were responding too. Meanwhile, the dude went off my me with a variety of obscenities and personal attacks, but Facebook said I was the one who violated community standards. Last year, Facebook also gave me a 30 day ban for talking about Rob Zombie's Halloween, stating I was wishing harm upon others. :banghead:  :banghead:

Then you have platforms like Twitter that allow people to attack you personally, call you racial slurs, and when you report it, they are deemed to not be against the TOS. :banghead:  :banghead :banghead:

The worst part is, I need all of these to help my business grow, although, it doesn't do much for Facebook when I can't post on my business page for 30 days because they wanted to be childish.

I also have Instagram, but I rarely use it since I can't actually post my from computer and it is a hassle to post from my phone.

Yes, but if you're running a business, you kind of need it to promote your business.

Kind of underwhelmed in my case, but right now I just use Instagram to share art, and others to keep up with friends and family, career related tidbits, and some pop-culture news and art sharing. Then again, I don't use it quite as much as I used to since in my current job, what I post through there can be used against me easily, so I just grown out of the habit.
The fact that social media's been stricter on mature-rated art being shared without changes over the last few years also makes things less interesting for me.

...and then of course I go and like your post...

Honestly, though I have to agree. Seems like people are less likely to respond to the discussion at some point and give out a like. That said; sometimes I do it when I have nothing to add to the conversation, but I want the person to know that I'm not ignoring them and agree with them. I supposed I could just respond and say "I agree" but is that really any better? Of course, I also tend to ignore the type of people who deliberately post "mindless agreement" kind of drivel that just goes along with whatever the popular opinion is as well. I think there's certainly a place for the "like button" though it does get annoying that it has replaced actual discussion for some people and that others have decided to turn into a dick-waving contest of who has the most... though I flat out blame this site having a section like this: Notable Members | TFW2005 - The 2005 Boards It's literally a page that ranks who has the most fucking likes on this site and it's under "notable members". There's also a "most messages", "most points", and "most news credits" section. I'm sure that not everyone that shows up in those sections got there on purpose for bragging rights (hell, I show up on the page for "most points"), but I bet you anything there are people that do so they can have the "internet cred" of saying they're a "notable member". I'm sure it makes them feel special or something.

And how many of those businesses did you know existed if they weren't in you local area? I didn't know Best Buy or Target were a thing until 2001 and 1998 because they were not local to Buffalo NY until then. There are plenty of businesses here in Colorado I never knew existed back then either because they weren't around in Buffalo. Social media is today's advertising agency.

Hell, do you think I acquired 6200 subscribers on YouTube by not promoting my channel?

TFW is the only "social media" I use! Everything else is just mindless, shallow and self-promotional garbage.

I was listening to a story on the radio about trolls on Tiktok. The anonymous guy being interviewed had been banned 9 times. Nine times!!! Yet he is on his 10th account & basically complained Tiktok not doing enough to stop other trolls.

The sad thing about the story was that the interviewer was sympathetic to him but damning of Tiktok. And who cares if you claim to have 2 million followers.
