I had high hopes for this when the series was originally announced. Too bad this show ended up pretty meh, sometimes veering into just crap, with wildly inconsistent voice acting. And BW Megatron's voice was straight up SO dog shit that it brought the whole show down for me. It's like a trainwreck I couldn't look away from. So disappointed.

Why not just put Waspinator, Tarantulas and Terrorsaur in the series for that purpose alone? They could of fought against Airazor and Blackarachnia instead, would've been much more interesting than an army of Scorponok's for no reason, lol!

Beast Megatron was the worst. "Lord Megatron! Let me suck you off!" I'm surprised we could understand him with G1 Megatron's dick in his mouth the whole time.

The "real" Beast Megatron would have been like, "Ah my name sake. I'm sure we'll work well towards the same goal. Yesss. Tarantulas get the The Transformation Lock Lens."

So there was an obvious sequel bait. But do you guys even think that they'll make a continuation?

War for Cybertron Trilogy Chapter 4 doesn't really sound all that great, right?

I'm pretty sure they will do more. A new trilogy or a movie maybe? Transformers is a great asset for Netflix.

Well I watched it, have to say probably the best of the three but still not good. The writers clearly knew more about BW than G1 to get at least some of the personalities right, excep for Prim and Megs. Sadly the story was nonsense with an ending straight out of a fanfic, with three MacGuffins, time travel, alternate universes...
And while they tried to repeat some key BW moments like Blackarachnia’s team up with Starscream and her betrayal and switching sides, or Dinobot’s sacrifice, they did not understand we need to know the characters and their motivations and grow to like them for this to work. What was BA’s plan really? She just wants to know what’s on the disk? And Dinobot never even met Optimus before, so that moment was hollow.
The voices were all rather bad, with naive fanboy BW Megs, Primal sounding like the “angry black man” cliche, and the animator they called in last second to voice Unicron... He sounds like a regular guy. As for Prime and Megs they still play Shatner, I often sped up the video to get through their looong monologues.
Guess turning evil made them act better as Nemesis and Galvatron were better.
I LOLed at the sequelbait at the end. I do hope Hasbro hires some other studio for Legacy

Given how many actually good kids’ shows are on Netflix, this is pretty strange. Most kids would not even know half of these characters. They only matter to us because of nostalgia.

Come on, if they could not pay Cullen and Welker who are not that expensive, how would the cheapskates at Rooster Teeth afford actual movie stars? That’s why most of these names were complete unknowns.
But hey, at least the noob guy voicing BW Megs worked well for this young über-fanboy version of him.

That hack should not be allowed within a hundred yards of any preexisting IP ever again. Let him rehash his only hit (Clerks 3 in the pipe my dudes who are still living in the 90's!) or make more torture porn movies if you must, but keep him away from everything else.

I think Bryan Cranston could be interesting choice to have a crack at Optimus Prime.

I agree they should have got Peter Cullen back but I think people underestimate how much he does cost. I don't know for sure, though I imagine It's a lot more than people expect.

I beg to differ. I'll grant you that Season 1 BW was not very toy accurate, but Seasons 2 and 3 were very toy accurate. The problem lies entirely with the art direction of the show, similar to how the voice actors are less at fault than the voice direction. Black outlines around everything -> art direction. All bodies being covered in damage and scratches to the point of the textures looking more matte than metallic -> art direction. Most backgrounds being simple and empty and masked by particle and smoke effects and DOF -> art direction. The flat brushed aluminium look that pretty much all undamaged robot parts have -> art direction.

I would argue it's less "let's match the toys" but instead more "let's just use the toy CG models and edit them a bit to save time and money". Speaking of money, that is a legitimate excuse for WFC as a whole. I can't imagine the funding for this was anywhere near enough for a quality show. Beast Wars was extremely well funded.

But there are no excuses for the CG. CG has advanced so far since the days of Mainframe and Softimage. Beast Wars barely had any shadows (this is one clear advantage WFC has over BW). These days there's a plugin for pretty much everything. Shadows and raytracing aren't as computationally intensive as they used to be. Rooster Teeth are simply not as talented/experienced/funded as 90s-00s Mainframe.

Regarding animation, I find WFC more unnatural and in some cases over-animated. For this example I'll choose episode 3 of Kingdom and to make things even more difficult for BW I'll choose a S1 episode, Gorilla Warfare (ep. 10).

Watch Starscream's movements in the beginning of ep. 3. So many unnecessary and unnatural movements. The closest example I can think of is Power Rangers when they're in suit form which is mostly Japanese footage. Each word or exclamation comes with some body and arm movement. A bit later in the episode Optimus Prime is talking on his comlink with a finger to his head, his body moves around as he speaks. Why? Why does his arm need to drop when he says "on foot"? Even later on when Starscream, Dinobot and Blackarachnia are talking about illusions all three of them are way over-animated. Like "one body movement per spoken word" over-animated.

There is some ok animation, I find Wheeljack and Megatron generally decently animated.

Now for Gorilla Warfare, setting aside the limitations of technology, the opening segment I will say is not the best. BW animation of beast modes can be janky. However starting around the 4:40 point when the Maximals are all sitting in the Axalon they move much more naturally. They speak without each word resulting in a jerk from their bodies. As KFGatri said in an earlier post, the BW models are better actors. Their faces convey better emotions.

Because all those characters cost money to make. It's cheaper to copy/paste Scorponok again and again, since they already had his toy's CAD file.

I guess, but they went to the effort of creating models for many other characters, some of which barley appear in any scenes and had little to no impact on the story.

If they're going to do the Scorponok clone thing, it would have been nice to get a little explanation, like Predacon Megatron created them after his army was depleted by the Maximals or the Decepticons created them as gift for receiving the golden disk, to show their gratitude.

Compared to previous attempts at cartoons by Hasbro since Animated, I liked this trilogy very much. But it could have benefitted from having better voice direction and artists. Some were OK. But one thing that would have been awesome, would have been to have the original voice artists of the Optimuses and Megatrons. While the artists for the normal Optimus and Megatron were OK, I would have loved to hear Gary Chalk and David Kaye again. Also Beast Megatron would have sounded a lot less wimpy, whiny and fangirly with David Kaye. Although some of his lines just would roll well even with David Kaye. I would have preferred traditional Japanese anime style, like in the new Masters of the universe cartoon. But overall, even with it's downsides, I would like to add this trilogy on BluRay to my collection someday. The finale was really cool and nothing what I expected. I think, if I didn't know about the toys, I would have been amazed even more, even though I still didn't expect to see it in fiction.

So, my verdict: even if there's still lot of room to improvement, this is way more in line what I would like from Transformers cartoons, than previous attempts. But I still draw the line after animated for great transformers shows. Every show that came before (including Animated) also had better music.

wont go into to much detail ore review right now but id give kingdom an 7 1/2 out of 10, it felt much more thematic than the previous seasons

that would have been a solid 8 or 8 1/2 if they'd not killed off skywarp and had him instead of astrotrain so we had a classic g1 cons reunion

Considering that this entire trilogy was almost over, I figure might as well give Kingdom a quick watch just to get it out of the way.

Well... it's watchable and I find Kingdom to the best of the 3 seasons so far... but that still doesn't mean a lot; the show at its core is still more or less identical to Siege and Earthrise.

This show is still not good, with the same god-awful voice-acting, a bloated plot that simultaneously feels like there's too much and too little, where all of the plot points feel like the writers try to throw in as much as they could just to see what sticks, none of the characters are that good and developed enough to care for their journey, together with some potentially cool moments that could've been great if they were built up properly.

Don't misunderstand my comments as being a defense of the WFC animation, because I'm not a fan of it at all. Compared to almost any other modern CG animation, it falls far short of "good" (TFP blows it out of the water, and that show is a decade old). However, it was my impression that much of the look that was chosen was intentional and some was possibly budget-constrained. BW, on the other hand, I realize was built and voiced by talented individuals with a well-funded budget. Yet, I find it completely unpalatable. Some of the facial expressions and body movements have an automata-like creepiness about them that I frankly find somewhat uncomfortable to watch. And some of the voice acting and dialogue-- however well-executed-- were cringey to my ear. For example, if Waspinator and Rattrap committed double-murder in the second episode, I would have applauded.

I think my bias in comparing these two productions is that I don't like either of them. I have no nostalgic attachment to Beast Wars, and all WFC does is threaten to ruin the nostalgic memories I have of G1. It's difficult for me to see the positives in either when there are so many negatives. All I can say is that while I find WFC dull but watchable, BW is literal torture for me.
