Weirdly this is the only time I actually felt afraid of Unicron...Thanks Starscream, now I'm having trouble sleeping. I do think maybe they might make a continuation.

The whole series feels like a bunch of unfinished plots put together. Its been a problem throughout all three parts of the show but it's especially noticeable in Kingdom.

It felt like the story was setting up BW Megatron to betray Megatron and use the golden disc to his own advantage but halfway through he just become a sycophant to his namesake. The megalomaniacal leader of the Predacons is happy to just step back and let Megatron push him around.

Another example would be the intro for episode 4, which feels like a leftover from an earlier version of the script that wasn't updated. The Maximals act like they have no idea what the Allspark is, even though its been established that Primal hates Prime for taking the Allspark offworld and leaving Cybertron in ruins. Rattrap also mentions that Cybertron doesn't need the Allspark to support life in the future but then Cheetor makes him drop the subject and it never comes up again.

Another complaint I have is that the inclusion of the Beast Wars cast feels like an afterthought. BW Megatron gives Megatron the golden disc and Blackarachnia creates a device that can decipher the disc. Aside from those two plot points you could replace the Beast Wars cast with anyone and the story would still mostly play out the same.

[IMG][IMG]Polygon Pictures did great. The VAs could be better, but given the fact that Netflix was already unwilling to fork out enough cash to Rooster Teeth for Union Voice Actors, they were decent with what they were given, especially with that story.

I really really liked Dinobots characterization. I genuinely liked Airazor too. Definitely gotta get a Dinobots toy.

considering the union talent Netflix employs for their other content I’d say it was less Netflix wasn’t willing to pay and more rooster teeth wasn’t willing pay then anything.

you see the cast of masters of the universe and some of the big name actors attached to their movies…yeah I don’t think it was Netflix. Especially since some of the voice cast were rooster teeth employees or former employees.

Well, it was the best of the three IMHO. That's not saying anything positive really. :rolleyes2

Ugh, I don't think I could give a standard review. It's a thing that happened is just too generic. I guess some Plus and Minus' will work instead.

    +
    • Blackarachnia's VA I think did a solid job. I actually thought for a moment that she may be a bigger VA. She should be.
    • Galvatron and his partner actually did have a plan.
    • I was able to watch this at 100% speed, not at 150% like I did the last series.
    • Starscream after his disk encounter was actually interesting and decent.

    -
    • Every other BW VA was varying degrees of bad. Sometimes they were like reading lines off the page while putting on their jacket to leave, others were just inconsistent, and some were just wrong for the character.
    • Still had a hard time telling who was a character and who was an asset re-use. Is it Thundercracker? A generic seeker? Who knows!
    • Buy the Titan Ark Toy! On sale now! If you're going to do that, at least do something with it!
    • Damage only matters when it needs to. Le Sigh. Everyone has a Cog Gun when they need it!
    • Nemesis' introduction was beyond stupid. Only Optimus can carve a ditch?
    • So the Allspark's plan was to just punk Megatron and give it to Optimus all along? Quality writing!
    • Elita-1, fridged so Optimus will realize he's bad.
    • Pretty much everything else too.

The first season was annoying. The second was inane. This season was watchable, I'll give it that.

I feel like Dinobot and Tigarons voices should be swapped.

Beast Megatron’s voice is easily the worst.

You know I don’t consider myself someone obsessed with the scale but wow I never knew rhinos were bigger than a jeep like vehicle and that gorillas were the same size as a semi truck

    I'm just glad it's over.

I'm actually surprised at the criticism leveled at Dinobot's voice. I absolutely hated the voice on the original and thought this was a good fit-- I actually became interested in the character for the first time in Kingdom. Plus, the VA at least managed to speak more naturally and at a normal pace, without the long pause between each word and a sickeningly heavy dose of drama as with other actors. Foushee expectedly reprised his role as the worst VA. He's still waaaaaay too slow executing conversational speech and completely falls out of character when he has to put any emphasis or elevated emotion into the voice. Fortunately there was plenty of bad voice acting surrounding him so he didn't sound too out-of-place. Primal and BW Megs weren't as outright bad as they were just mis-cast (though they weren't good). Elita-1 still sounds like a drunken Katniss Everdeen. I thought Airazor's voice only suffered from an amateurish execution. Megatron's voice got on my nerves more than it had in the prior two chapters-- the actor is trying to hard, I think. Whatever-- other than story and pacing, the voice acting remains one of the series's biggest weaknesses.

Overall, I wouldn't rate Kingdom as "good", but it was at least watchable, which is more than I can say for the dumpster fire that preceded it. I would put it on par with Siege-- far exceeding my expectations after trudging through Earthrise. The pacing was better, the story wasn't great but at least there was one, and the new characters mixed things up a bit.

From my perspective, I'd give this trilogy a rating of 5/2/5 with a collective 4 out of 10. Parts one and two are entertaining enough to watch if you're a fan of Transformers, but not worth it otherwise. The second is... just awful. I regret saying that despite the fact that WFC supported a pretty good toy line, the production wasn't worth the effort. I sort of wish it hadn't happened, because I think if anything, it casts a negative shadow on what preceded it. But, I feel that way about Bayverse, too, yet everyone seems to think anything that keeps money in the coffers is a good thing for the franchise, even if it ruins the fiction.

Serious question: What is going on with Scorponok in the series?

I understand they are drones/clones but any idea where they came from? Who made them, Tarantulas? or are they created by Decepticons as a gift to BW Megatron? being that his army is so depleted.

Also is the original Scorponok present in the series or are they all just clones? My guess is the real Scorponok is the one who tussles with Rattrap, maybe.

I'd be interested to hear your theories. Am I missing something or is none of this given a proper explanation?

Finally got to watching Kingdom. Some first impressions:
    • Optimus still talks in 0.25x speed after all this time. Beyond that the voice acting has seen subtle improvements. Good.
    • Beast Wars Megatron's voice acting is ehh... I like Optimus Primal though.
    • Starscream finally remembered how to be a backstabbing traitor. I also liked his chemistry with Blackarachnia.
    • Astrotrain sus
    • Decepticons refusing orders from Predacons strikes me as a metaphor for racism, somehow.
    • The fact I accidentally pressed 1.5x speed and felt nothing wrong bothers me, honestly.
Also wow, the writers found a way to include a cliffhanger on a series only 18 episodes long. Amazing.

Yeah, the "real" Scorponok fights Rattrap in that scene with Astrotrain.
He's later captured when they leave Earth and is seen with with the surviving Decepticons/Predacons on Cybertron.

No idea what was with the drones (who only appeared in a single scene). I'm guessing the writers had no reasoning either, lol. They were just there to provide fodder I suppose, but why not use Decepticon generics since it took place on the Nemesis and it was repeatedly stressed that both Maximals and Preds had such diminished forces?

Yeah. He expected a competent production. How unreasonable ...

I mean, Beast Wars came out 25 years ago, yet Mainframe's take on the characters feels so much more alive and real than what we have here. Literally the only improvement is the higher resolution.
